  • SUPER COOL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes, Cab Calloway uses the title line in Yiddish (label says Utt Dazoy or something) and then continues in a fun madeup English that has very little to do with the Yiddish lines. Swinging of course! This is our own arrangement here, including jump interlude by Rick Faulkner. My [Eve's] intro inspired by Sixteen Tons etc.

  • Cab Calloway recorded this song, too.

  • Cab Calloway recorded this song, too.

  • Man patiko.

  • good sound for being outside

  • fantastico!

  • I'm a longtime klezmer fan - and I must say, this song is great and the performance is brilliant.

I also have to agree with a comment above, and add that the singer has a cute, kissable little noz. Oy vey indeed!

  • thanks rosieyposie! you're so welcome, and anything to do with Rodgers & Hart is a compliment in my book. I'll have to listen to that song again, it's been a long time.

  • The title means: "That's the way a tailor sews." This verse translates as less than cheery, the tailors didn't have it easy in Eastern Europe! -- "That's the way the tailor sews, that's how he makes [throws] his stitches. A tailor sews and sews and sews and has plagues, but not any bread."

  • Greetings...

Thats a Catchy tune, what does it mean?

    A very enjoyable music tune,

    thanks for the posting, 5stars

    Rosiey

  • evesicular~

    thanks for your reply'

    then the lyrics have true

    universal meaning"for todays world.

    The song Tailor Sews" reminds

me of exactly but in english version:

    "hallelujah, I'm a bum again"

music by Rogers & Hart 1930.

    thanks for the music again.

  • Great Stuff.

Reminds me of one particular band that used to play at Grossingers back in the 60's.

Does anyone out there remember The Red Apple Rest?

  • A beautyfull singer...beautyfull she and her voice. From Buenos Aires, Argentina. Eduardo.

  • Beautyfull the woman who sings. Beautyfull voice and she. From Buenos Aires, Argentina, Eduardo.

  • Oy vey the vocalist is hot!!!

  • Send your promos to Radio station WMNF in Tampa, FL or set up a gig at Skippers Smokehouse in Tampa, FL. People around here would definitely appreciate you all.

  • Great stuff. You guys/gals ever coming to St Petersburg, FL-Gods waiting room?

  • We'd be most pleased to be invited to St Petersburg, whether Florida or former USSR.

    Thank you so much!

  • God's waiting room! I love it!

  • Brilliant, it's great what you can do with a band of 8 good musicians - I've only got a duo..

  • Hi again! Do you have the lyrics of the song?

  • Yes. They're also in the booklet of "Surprising Finds," where we first recorded our version of this tune. The traditional has many verses: this one is -- Ot azoy neyt a shnayder//Ot azoy varft er shtekh //A shnayder neyt un neyt un neyt//Un hot kadokhes, nit keyn broyt [NOTE: due to diff. Yiddish dialect prounciations, 'neyt' and 'breyt' can be rhymes].

  • Yes, our vocalist knows what she's singing about. This tune, though it has the theme of poverty, was previously adapted as an up-tempo swing in a diff. yet also sunny version by Cab Calloway. This verse translates: "That's the way the tailor sews, that's how he makes his stitches. A tailor sews and sews and sews and has plagues, but not any bread."

  • Ok - to the prev comm. the pron is ok - just the accent

  • Nicely done - I just don't like the singer's pronounciation - like she doesn't understand the words.

But it's brilliant - great musicians, appearently..

  • buenisimo es lomejor que he escuchado

salud...os y viva el DIOZ DEL KLEZMER

  • Yes, thanks!

    Metropolitan Klezmer has 4 CDs:

TRAVELING SHOW, SURPRISING FINDS, MOSAIC PERSUASION, YIDDISH FOR TRAVELERS

This tune is on TrSh & SFinds (live / studio)

Plus our all-gal sextet, Isle of Klezbos

GREETINGS FROM THE ISLE OF KLEZBOS

also at Amazon, iTunes, B&N, etc! Happy listening ~Eve

  • CDBaby has all our recordings, and they're great.

Our worldwide distributor is Stern's Music (US & UK offices), our own label for Metropolitan Klezmer and Isle of Klezbos is "Rhythm Media Records." Sorry for the delay, happy listening! Great liner notes, translations, transliterations, and Yiddish lyrics plus English descriptions too.

  • Thanks!! Do they all contain vocals?? Are they all in swing style??

  • Each CD includes some swing tunes, & more vocals too, plus lots of instrumentals. The most swing & vocals are on our latest two CDs: "Traveling Show" (live concert) & "Surprising Finds"... there are also Yiddish swing tracks on our first 2 Metro.Klezmer CDs & our Isle of Klezbos CD, though of our earlier discs the one with more vocals is "Mosaic Persuasion." ("Yiddish for Travelers" & "Greetings from the Isle of Klezbos" both include Yiddish swing vox, but are mainly instrumentals.)
