  • i was exactly one year old on the day of this crash :|

  • how could they die of exposure in a tropical country?

  • @Seigu007 They were several thousand feet above sea level, up in the mountains, at night. It can get pretty cold at night up there.

  • @Moose6340 sorry, but you're wrong.

  • does anyone know where this video came from? Like who made it?

  • @elaineelainewood

It belongs to a documentary television programme which explores diferrent airplane crushes.!it is called may day air disaster or crime scene investigation!for more information about the programme as well as the episodes with the crushes that have been explored, check it out on google!

  • aparently, one dog also servived the crash and was adopted by a american airlines employee who worked on the case

  • now this is for sure im never flying to colombia!!!!!

  • If people are taking proper precautions after a mishap, then why the hell are accidents still happening...

  • I suppose the one comfort is that every time one of these disasters happen, air travel gets a little bit safer. Provided the airlines learn from it of course.

  • It's unacceptable the colombian airforce did not help immediately.

  • RIP Gonzalo the boy. Very sad.

  • They almost made it over.

  • That was too many mistakes,

  • Commercial aircraft used to have a navigator...for good reasons!

  • When will the plane's computer have Google Earth + GPS/radar and show the pilots the terrain far enough in advance to avert a crash? We have smart computers but not in these "state of the art" aircraft.

  • @normanjtongmd For all I know modern a/c have EGPWS for terrain awareness, and use IRS which is a stand alone system that doesn't rely on external factors (satellites), but they still also have GPS. Not an expert in any way, somebody correct me if I'm wrong

  • runway one nine?....it's supposed to be runway one niner.

  • colombian terrain is triky (im a colombian pilot) and any little mistake and you are in serious trouble

  • Pilots do watch these shows both to find out what the NTSB concluded and to learn from others mistakes. We all make them! Little things add up, like the man said it’s a chain of events not just one. It’s a shame that people have to lose a life before most things change. In the case of this particular crash the Controller was more at fault then the pilots. He first statement after acknowledgement of Flight 965’s contact to approach control should have been “Be advised we do not have Radar”.

  • @winterocks I agree that pilot errors are totally natural and they will always happen. The goal is to make airplane systems so that mistakes do not happen very easily, and if they happen it wont lead to disaster.

However I would not blame controller from this either.

  • But you sure can make a comment on everyone else’s abilities, like you know what you’re talking about. Oh I forgot your hiding behind a keyboard, where no one knows your name or identity. Most cowards do that don’t they?

  • What more upsetting is most of the dumb-ass and smart-ass comments are from people who are “Arm-chair Quarterbacks”. Not only are you not pilots, you wouldn’t have a clue on how to fly, what it takes to navigate day or night. I would grantee that if I took you up and had you close your eyes for three minutes then said take us back to the airport we just took off from, you’d be lost.

  • Luckily the TV crew survived.

  • the copilot in this had also beeen the captain of the American Airlines 96 in ACI.

  • These careless and negligent pilots do not deserve to fly even a paper kite, let alone a Boeing 757, they made a silly and disastrous mistake that would not be expected from a PC flight simulator teen amateur!!

  • @GoodMuslim77 Shut up armchair pilot.

  • @Pvjinflight but Shut up you wheelchair pilot.

  • @GoodMuslim77 Shut up muslim

  • @Pvjinflight Shut up non-muslim

  • tap 5 really fast

  • @krazytyme you think this is depressing? Watch "Mid-Air Collision".

  • this is pretty scary documentart... basically it seems that pilots cant navigate their plane at all.

  • I know that there have been many tragic plane crashes, but this one hits me especially in a painful way. I'm not sure, but I think it may be because it could have been SO easily avoidable. But then, you could say that about other crashes...Perhaps it was the multiple mistakes made by the pilot, and the fact that had he just been a bit more careful, for example, looked at what he was punching into his computer screen, instead of just assuming that everything was going along as it should.

  • US is going to attack Columbia at night, 'cause Columbia air force doesn't have night visio equipment

  • Thank you so much for uploading :)

  • If all pilots watched all the Air Crash Investigation videos that show pilot error,, maybe once a year,, it might help them to stay aware of the very real dangers and stop them making the sort of mistakes that can end up in disaster. It also looks as if older more experienced Pilots need to be reminded that some very dangerous mistakes are made by highly experienced pilots,, and they are still prone to messing up. There's always the unexpected waiting to catch folk out once their guard is down.

  • If the plane has WIFI or Internet on the In-Flight Entertainment you could watch this show on the plane.

  • the pilots should fly the plane manually upon approach instead of approach using automated systems.

  • So basically the whole thing was the fault of those bastard terrorists. If they hadn't blown up the radar the ATC guy could have warned the crew they were flying off course.

  • Comment removed

  • I wonder how many of them would have survived has rescue come sooner.

  • I watch this just in case this happens to me while i fly hashahahahaha but i think im a good pilot :P

  • Got a plane to catch in 4 days.

Time to see some Air crash Investigation

  • Was'nt the speed brakes/spoilers also deployed at that time??

  • @Corkscrew777doughnut yessir, that is why she couldn't climb out over the mountain, if they had been retracted, she would have cleared it.

  • If I hear "state of the art something" again I sware I'll plant a bomb on whatever that something is

  • Air crash investigation?? less than a quarter of the item is actually about the investigation at all. The vast bulk seems to be filled with ghoulish and irrelevant personal details about the unfortunate victims

  • i am amazed even 4 people servied

  • 4:40. Boeing 737? That's American 921, isn't it?

  • If not having radar, shouldn't an airport be close???

And I would also add, Human Error

  • @Dougyman1983 I agree. Why tell the crew that they were cleared to Cali? They would think that they should delete all waypoints and head to Cali, which means they would take you literally.

  • If not having radar, shouldn't an airport be close???

  • shed-u-all. lol.

  • a dog survived too i read in wikipedia

  • They ALWAYS say "one of the most advanced airplanes in the world, with state of the art equipment". One day I want the commentator to say "They're flying a crappy airplane with a lousy navigation system, and these pilots got their training at Wal Mart". I'm NOT saying that's the case here, but just sayin the repetition gets old...

  • @nccsa186 You do know that Jonathan Aris is not being paid to make airline manufacturers look good,he's being paid for just the narrating. He reads from what is given to him.He may not agree with half if not most of the shit he reads.Lets point the blame to the proper people please.

  • @nccsa186 I agree.

In addition,"they have tossed out their procedures," and "ground control sucks!"

  • @nccsa186 The thing I find amusing is that way stats are qualified in ACI: "One of the worst air disasters in Belgian history in a 737 on a Tuesday".

  • Watching Air crash before a flight in a boeing...Whoah! MAke my heart beats faster on take off and cruising altitude!..its Sick!!!!!

  • Has anyone noticed, other than me, that a lot of these Air Crash Investigation and Mayday episodes involve American Airlines? I'm Canadian and I NEVER, NEVER will fly American Airlines. It seems that according to these series buying a ticket on American is like signing your own death certificate.

  • @ThatBearHasMoxie Yes but that was back then, now we have modern day tech so its really rare to have crashes. I flew AA and they gave excellent service

  • @ThatBearHasMoxie American Airlines is not any more dangerous than other airlines. It's simply cos of the fleet size of the world biggest airliners is so big, seemingly more accidents happen to them. Actually when you compare the number of accidents to performed flights, American Airlines is one of the safest airlines in the world.

But of course these accidents and incidents can ruin reputation of some airlines in peoples minds. I've never flown Air France cos I feel it somehow unsafe....

  • @ThatBearHasMoxie hahahahaha thanks for the laugh :) i agree by the way.

  • American Airlines Lossing money

  • I wonder why the first "R" presented by the flight computer wasn't ROZO, the closest beacon to their position...

  • Aha, according to the Wikipedia article, "Colombia had duplicated the identifier for the Romeo NDB near Bogotá, and the computer's list of stored waypoints did not include the Rozo NDB as "R", but only under its full name "ROZO". In cases where a country allowed duplicate identifiers, it often listed them with the largest city first."

  • The controller did not understand proper phraseology. To go "direct" to a fix means you go directly there in a straight line without passing over any other fixes. But the Captain asked if he could go "direct Rozo" and the controller said "Affirmative" (this is on the CVR transcript). The controller later said that the Captain's request to fly "direct Rozo" did not make sense, so why did the controller answer "Affirmative"?

  • After the controller answered "Affirmative" the Captain attempted to fly direct Rozo, and he entered the identifier R from the chart, into the FMS. But for some bizarre reason the Columbia government used the same identifier for multiple fixes; the first near Bogota and the second near Cali. The computer, not being able to store two fixes with the same name, stored Rozo under ROZO instead of R. There was no way for the flight crew to have known this or to have expected it.

  • A court found the manufacturer of the FMS computer and the provider of its electronic navigation database a combined 40% at fault, and American Airlines 60% at fault. But I think that the role played by the Columbian government for giving two different fixes the same identifier, and the role played by the controller for allowing the Captain to think he was cleared DIRECT Rozo, are underappreciated.

  • @dmspilot From what I read in the report (in Spanish) the controller recognized that the flightcrew's request to initiate the approach at the penultimate waypoint did not make sense. He couldn;t express his doubts, so he reinstated the order (Take the Rozo 1) and in "Take the Rozo 1 approach procedure as it apprears on the charts.

  • @dmspilot Likewise he stated that he was aware that the flightcrew had gone past the Tulua VOR (since their final DME report was 36 miles or something along those lines, which was closer to the airport than the distance between the airport and the VOR) but he supposed (correctly at that) that the flightcrew simply forgot to report passing the waypoint. He knew something was not right but he couldn't point a finger at what it was.

  • Thats just sad..People who say im never flying on a plane again are stupid these kind of crashes are caused in the 1960's 1990's even 2000 but crashes that have been caused in the last few years are normaly survival ones hardly death ...

  • Oh My God is that pilot DRINKING D:

  • I have NOT flown in 9 years and I don't plan to fly EVER! Cause of things like this

  • @NebraskaFan77 FSX?

  • the point of all this? computers suck. good pilots should be able to fly on only their basic instruments

  • @tippman2k01 Did you even watch the episode?

They crashed due to Human error. The pilots were rushing causing them to screw up on the basics of flying.

The computer had nothing to do with this crash.

  • @damien131091 they put the wrong destination in the computer instead of just relying on their altimeter and a map. im not a pilot im a diver but theres one phrase that we go by plan your dive dive your plan. only one change can be made- abort. this relates to flying in the sense they plot their course on a standard map and fly the course like generations of pilots and captains before them instead of relying on a computer to tell them where they are

  • @tippman2k01 Exactly, they put in the wrong destination, that's human error. Its just like if you put a car in the wrong gear, you wouldn't blame the car!

And i don't think you can compare driving a car on a road with plenty of signs and information around you to flying a Commercial Jet 37,000ft in the air! They cant just use a map! They'd need some sort of checkpoint system.

  • How and why does it take 8 hrs to get the crash site? A whole military lacks night vision equipment? How do they even protect their own country? The little boy would have survived. Bure kabisa!

  • question to thoose who have survived (Thank god) but do you fly again? ever?

  • Airplanes are so amazing and beautiful. There is something very sad about them crashing.

  • You know, i LOVE this programme but it scares the living daylights outta me about going on planes

  • @SophyBieber11 Ive not been on a plane for 25 years thanks to programs like this. Ive turned down some nice holidays including a trip around the world but I just cant relax on planes now.

  • @7byseven nore me. when i was coming home from australia cus i saw this programme there the day be4 i was due 2 fly home, my heart was in my mouth and i was just sitting their

  • @SophyBieber11 lol people who invite me on holidays keep telling me that cars are more dangerous but at least im in control of a car and not some inexperienced pilot. The thought of falling from the sky just because the pilot forgot to flick a switch is not worth a few days on a beach for me.

  • @7byseven true say

  • Oh no my first flight training is tomorrow why the hell iI am watching this!:D

  • cali with no radar??? wtf

  • the best episode ever

  • HUH Can it be Bermuda Triangle Miami is near the Bermuda Triangle

  • Im flying tomorrow........time to watch Air Crash Investigation

  • @mrmoerder

I KNOW! I sometimes watch these before I fly. It is so sick and I can't figure out why. But I do!

  • @AllSingingAllDancing I was boarding my early morning flight to malaysia and i was so scared after i watched air crash investigation.

  • I did that too. I love watching these clips before traveling.

  • @AllSingingAllDancing Same here always do it to myself

  • @AllSingingAllDancing lol absolutely same for me :D :D

  • @AllSingingAllDancing You just psicologically need to prepare your mind for the worse... lets face it...that's the truth

  • @AllSingingAllDancing Even better is watching these during your flight and getting weird looks or remarks from your fellow passengers.

  • @AllSingingAllDancing , I guess make that list three!!!! I do it for some reason>.< I guess It makes me feel better as it makes me think that if theres a 1 in a million chances a plane would crash, then theres less chance for my flight to crash...

  • @Corkscrew777doughnut

Hehe, I think it makes me feel better because now I know what the signs of something wrong with the plane look like, and if I don't see or feel anything, then everything'll be fine. Except on one flight I was on, there was some sort of indentation in the engine's covering, and I didn't know if that was supposed to be there so I was all "What if the engine disintegrates mid-flight? ; ;" And then there are the planes that get hit with other stuff. Double-edged sword.

  • @AllSingingAllDancing If the plane has WIFI or Internet on the In-Flight Entertainment you could watch this show on the plane. That would be even more twisted!

  • Comment removed

  • @mrmoerder makes u feel safer doesn't it? or if there is an accident, you'll know what might be that will kill you. :)

  • @mrmoerder hell yeah! they should put these episodes as part of the in flight entertainment as well...

  • @mrmoerder HI5 !

  • @mrmoerder it really makes you think twice! lol

  • @mrmoerder you're SO right! *lol* I don't fly too often, but when I do I always make sure to have a seat in the middle section of the plane, near the overwing exits. ACI does teach you a lot of useful stuff after all... :o)

  • In the computer, R = _B_ogota? :(

  • @WhimsicalXay R means Romeo NDB near Bogotá...

  • watch wikipedia...

  • all year hear is beepp beeep beeeeppp lol

  • how hard is it to fly a plane?? its easier than packing at a grocery store, in grocery store u see the ticket and fill the shelves, in a plane u open the manual, go thru a routine check and fly.....and if it is about to crash, u open manual again and eventually crash

  • @1rubel it's not that easy kid ther's fmc configuration there's routiene fuel chec and hundreds more :D

  • @1rubel

    K.

  • @1rubel yeah that's right, flying a plane is easier than going to the grocery store! (says the guy who has probably never flown a plane in his life!) Right, yeah and i am the queen of england, how do you do!

  • @aircrashuploader this is lost! American Airlines Flight 965 not unlocking disaster United Airlines light 811

  • I Am Going To Be A Air Traffic Controller At YVR

  • @JH77771 I wish you well my friend! Stay alert and keep us safe, ok?

  • anyone can be a pilot, i know it all just watching all episodes here, i can fly a plane now

  • @1rubel ikr

  • @1rubel oh now they can't, you probibly can't, this is not even a ding in aviation, pardon the pun

  • stupid american aircraft given the warning so late.

  • 09:10 what are they distributing? :-?

  • @hannahrenz surveys about how the flight was. ironic :D

  • @win7sony No it's not. It's a card you fill in to speed up the process of entering the country upon reaching passport control on the ground! Information required upon entering the country is filled in on this card to make entry go as smooth as possible.

  • Pilot error. He forgot the spoiler, the plane will never climb then

  • "I think we knew that something immenent was around the corner." LOL

  • They say that the computer was the pilot's worst enemy. I wouldn't say that because the computer did not do anything wrong... it were the clueless pilots who crashed the plane. When people cannot use the computer, then disaster strikes.

  • American Airlines is plauged with plane crashes #sheeeesh

  • Can't blame ATC, they have no radar

  • Thankyou so much for uploading these - it's nice to have full episodes, and even nicer not having racist/ignorant comments slagging off everybody in the video.

  • thanks a lot mate
