I'm 21 but love this kind of music. Modern country music is questionable as being remotely country at all even if some slap steel guitars and fiddles in there somewhere. I do know that there are still some great artists like George strait making country music but I am surprised that with all the country sucked out of most of today's songs that they would even have banjos, steel guitars and fiddles still these days. It upsets me when some "country" songs don't even have any of those at all.
The Big Bopper wrote the original version and that was ROCK N ROLL. There is also something that is atypical Country in the video - the lead guitarist is not using a Telecaster (he is using a Fender Jazzmaster). I agree with a lot of the below posts - guys like George Jones and Johnny Cash are COUNTRY. PERIOD! If you look at the "country" bands nowadays, you see Strats, Les Pauls and Marshall amps with tons of distortion. Country is about playing a Tele through a Fender Twin Reverb.
This is 1000 times more country than the modern shit that is played today. I like all types of music and I don't say I'm a country music expert by any means. if I'm going to listen to country, give me the old stuff any day. George Jones, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, David Allen Coe...
@Arnescountry Thank u very much this song is Baaaaad to the Bone!! I'm not much into Country but this is Greatness. Mr Jones deserves respect. Very smooth and tight
I've heard this on a classic country station in Topeka Kansas. It's Country Legends 106.9 FM. They feature "the best country from the 60's thru the 80's." Too bad I can't remember thier call letters...
@Kolfritz i get them in austin, texas, when its dark out and im driving home in the right spot......i heard johnny cash on there one night a few months back
Damn I've spent every road trip I've ever been on looking for classic country stations and I never find fuck all except that Toby Keith pop country crap.
The back up singer is George Riddle,, I had the pleasure of meeting him and his entire family in Marion Indiana over the past month. He is now a DJ on a local Marion country music station and still performs locally from time to time.. He is still a really talented and wonderful man to spend time with.
Do any of youall, know who the back up singer is ?ANSWER....a very young Donny Liettle,AKA Donnie Young..AKA.....Johnny Paycheck...........Rest In Peace Outlaw....
@80sfreak1983 No doubt! We have a classic Country station in Wickenburg, Az. and they played this today. I sang it loud like an idiot! This version is particularly rocking.
I would give anything to have a voice half as good as George.

You've got to love George Jones! The sheer goofiness of this song coupled with the historic relevance is what country music's all about!
