I`m from Germany (former Western G.) and I loved this fairy tale best!!

Anyhow, the Eastern bloc didn`t any matter to the children.

And if I have a look around the comments of the Arabela videos, I suppose that every child from every nation loved this stuff!!

However the czechslowakian fairy tale movies were the best of all.

In Arabela played the great actors and actresses. Some of them are dead. Petr - Vladimír Dlouhý(brilliant actor... he died very young - cancer), King - Vlastimil Brodský(elite of czech dramatic art... committed suicide), Vigo - Jiří Sovák(pulmonary) magician, mr. Majer - Vladimír Menšík (great comic... very strong asthma), mrs. Majerová... was great actors, is it beautiful memory. Thank for your work, and giving out joyance. We will remember - forever!

@first2nd2002 I think we all had the same feelings when we were children. :)) We went out to play and we re-enacted scenes from the episode we had just seen. And every girl wanted to be Arabela. As for the ring...it was stuff we dreamed about eyes wide open. :)

Thanks for posting it ---- this brings me back to my wonderful childhood in Czechoslovakia in the 1980s. It is amazing to see how many East European countries have shown this, we in Czechoslovakia were not even aware of Arabela's popularity abroad.  I heard that children in Spain also grew up on it. Anyway --- missing my childhood while living in the US.

It was so popular that in time when was Arabela on tv ,nowone was out playing.

This series has been the reason to live for me in the '80s. The 13 episodes where broadcasted during the summer vacation on saturdays at 11.00AM, and the whole saturday was revolving arround Arabela. Missing an episode was a catastrophy. I would love to get the DVDs, with romanian or english subtitles.

I do agree but, for example, Austria is more Eastern than most of the Czech Rep however it is not Eastern European. Perhaps it is more an English language thing but certainly in English the term East European tends to have associations of macabre, gypsy sentiments and the lethal exoticism of the Bohemian temperament the WASP world cannot fathom.

I can't see why you consider Eastern Europe an offensive term. East Bloc or former soviet satellite state - now that would annoy me too. But being from what you call "Central" Europe myself, I am self confident enough to identify with my cultural heritage which is Eastern European. If one day there'll be a distinct Central European culture, well that'd be great. But it would be something new, different from the culture this film and others were produced and consumed in. Israel is in Palestine :P
