Nice try guys, sometimes covers are better than the original, but this is Richard Thompsons song and nobody does it better, check out his solo version, Seattle 1990.
awesome cover. Not quite the angst level RT reaches but still cool! Some people don't appreciate the loose soul of live music. Maybe they deserve Milli Vanilli?
@cedronar:Er...no, they don't play it better than RT, Los Lobos are good, but cannot carry this track. Watch RT's version Austin Texas, you'll be amazed by the emotional intensity, even during a mishap (seen but not heard) during mid-solo. RT blows these guys into the stone age!

As a dedicated Lobos fan, "architar" has it right: This cover SUX!!! With the THREE time Grammy winning original portfolio LL has, there is no reason to be performing crap like this.
Beg to differ...love Los Lobos, and RT more so, but this version is not to anyone's benefit. Good to hear a great song covered, but this version sucks the life out of it. Odd man out, I guesss.
Cesar is so quiet. Maybe this was during those dark days. Los Lobos can tear shit up like few other bands. I like to take people to see them live to see how stunned they are by how hard this band rocks.
I love Los Lobos intensely, but I love RT even more, and damn me if I don't wish David Hidalgo would learn the words. Because this is how SOTL should be played- at top volume, with a full band, and for at least six minutes.
Here may be blasphemy- I think Thompson should quit playing it at acoustic shows, also. Anyone who's going to see an acoustic show likely is already at least something of a fan, and this song needs electric fuzz.
@vlock1 hey , i wanted to reply b/c i am a huge RT fan & have seen him live w/a variety of backing bands & solo. I would only bring this up to other RT fans who know how truly great he is - I also feel like some of his songs don't live up to their true level with the different backing bands or when done acoustically. This could just illustrate how perfect he gets it with certain arrangements & instrumentation. Some of his songs need a woman singing w/him & not just ones that Linda sang on...
I wouldn't complain about either R.T. or Los Lobos. L.L. doing R.T. is absolutely fine with me..To me it's a dream come true! Thanks.

David Hidalgo is one of the most underrated guitarists ever.
seans10 2 years ago
I don´t think he is underrated. I think that he is... unknow for the big crowd. And this is good.
We can see him and Los Lobos in closed lives.
Anyway... David is on of the greatest guitar players that I ever heard... of all the time. He can surprised me in any song.

This rendition scorches. It is truly in the spirit of RT's original.
I think he would be pleased with this, LL being friends of RT.

Yes, it is disappointing that David Hidalgo muffed the lyric but overall this is a great cover, and the groove is faithful to RT's original
daf827 3 years ago
When you play like Dave Hidalgo, you don't need to know all the words.

RT's a little better than Dave Hidalgo, and he knows all the words.
