@Tragon84 It's not as simple as men and women, though. Men can be great at "feminine" things and women can be great at "masculine" things; there are crossovers, and differences are more individual than they are male/female.
Inequality comes in when there are restrictions and barriers to how things play out in the real world. People will do things differently, but it's inequality if men can't become nurses and women can't become cops.
it should be noted to all those who feel an icelandic translator would help this band be relevant - their lyrics are not icelandic - they use a made up, non-literal language commonly referred to as 'hopelandic" to compose lyrics - it plays on the sounds of language collectively, lacking grammar, meaning, and even distinct words - similar to scatting in jazz - the non-language uses the melodic and rhythmic elements of singing without the conceptual content of language. the music transcends.
@tjkuehl21 About 50% of their songs are in Icelandic though. Most of "Takk" is icelandic and the "()" album is in hopelandic. Not sure about the rest...
Iceland is such an amazing and awe-inspiring country. Culture, history, music, heritage-anything that comes from that country is nothing less than breathtakingly beautiful. I feel that Icelandic people are so in tune with nature, art and music while the rest of the world is forgetting how much beauty there is in the world, and forgetting how to appreciate everything in life.

Hey guys. It's very easy. Nick Hornby once said that the difference between men and women is that women have character, but men have passions. This is why men achieve to make better art - the live for it, they forget eating, showering, everything else than their passion. Whereas women always have their daily life in the back of their minds. They don't concentrate on it as much as men. I'm a woman myself and I could just agree totally with Hornby.
rapiergirl, there are some. Check out Patti Smiths for example. She is both a great singer and poet; on par with Nick Cave. Or Siouxsie and the Banshees, though the personnel behind Siouxsie (and also Patti) are men. But I can mention historial women, too: Clara Schumann or George Sand. The basic reason I think is that women are often more concerned with being liked by the audience, being succesful on stage than the real deep content. Maybe it is not PC talking, but my experience.
Sad but true for you dreamer, there are tons of things that support the facts, take your time, check internet and scientist books, and you'll see,. let me give you some examples: Da Vinci, Einstein, Picasso, Dalí, Johan Sebastian Bach, Mozart, The Beatles, Elvis,.. the list is endless. let me guess your answer 'Spice Girls' Go to the kitchen and wash some dish
Even men can be women, that's why shemales are better too
@iqlm1992 - haha okay you obviously have no idea what you are talking about, especially in the realm of science. the most important scientific discovery in the past 100 years was the discovery of the double helical structure of dna in 1953, which was discovered by a woman. watson and crick (both men who worked in the same lab) took the credit, but admitted it shortly before their death. and all the men you have named were obsessed with women lol it was thier inspiration in one way or another
'..DNA was first isolated by the Swiss physician Friedrich Miescher who, in 1869, discovered a microscopic substance in the pus of discarded surgical bandages...' Please, now every important discover in the world was made by a woman, that's hilarious lol, I Do know what I'm talking about, you have the same answer like everybody else.. Inspiration or hypotheticals confessions before death..and obsession has nothing to do with this, that is a typical brainless answer
hahahaha you fucking idiot. of course dna was isolated a long ass time ago but they had no idea what the structure was. its pretty much like hearing someone speak another language; its cool and all but it isnt worth shit if you dont understand what theyre saying. and she would have got the nobel prize but it cant be awarded posthumously(big word, google it). but congratulations on copy and pasting a random wikipedia article that has the word DNA in it lol. anything else? id be happy to enlighten
first of all im a guy, just not an ignorant one like you. and any time not spent studying in nursing school is devoted to volunteer work at hospitals, so dont tell me to do something helpful when you wouldnt even be able to describe the word
Men and women can be good at different things. Some kinds of music or songs are suited for women and some for men and some for both. I really dislike feminist that wants to force everyone to deny this. Difference is good and it does not have to mean inequality. Im not saying that that is your opinion.
Anyhow I disagree, I think there are female singers that do powerful and strong music. There are, atleast, several swedish female singers that make very good and powerful music, imo.
@Tragon84 you delude yourself in believing that there is such a stark differentiation. while it is subjectively understandable that men and women 'can be good at different things', your position of enforcing that there is a gender basis for musical classification is fraught with ignorance. if the musical experience is representative of one's tentative conception of artistry, then what is to DELINEATE such a representation as being male or female? what justifies classifying on the basis of sex?
@Tragon84 you delude yourself in believing that there is such a profound discrepancy in ability. yes, men and women can be good at different things as individuals can be distinctive. but in saying that some types of music are suited for women and some are suited for men, you attempt to posit that such differentiation is definite rather than relative. if the musical experience is representative of one's tentative conception of artistry, then what is it that classes it as male or female?
this song has such a cold and desolate atmosphere, never heard something like that! Totally awesome work from this incredible Band! This is breathtaking, magical and mystical!
Sigur Ros is definitely the band of the century!
btw..this might interest some of you..I was surfing on youtube, looking for cool bands..I found a Band called "Nyctalgia" some minutes ago.. You should listen to their song "Falling into nothingness" Fantastic work!
Iceland is the most breath taking place on earth. Natural beauty, nothing added and nothing taken away, one of the worlds diamonds. Sigur Rós is simply the product of beauty.
the only thing I can see where they have something in common is in the fact that they both sort of got that shoegaze-like/post rock kind of hazy-ness to them. But that's only in like...a handful of Deftones songs...they're too different otherwise. I like them both though.
I watched this movie just yesterday and during last song, performed in Reykjavik, I felt like I was in some strange, different world...It is very emotional movie, it has a lot of different emotions, some moments made me LOL and some even cry...and it is not just about great band and its great music, it is also a great movie. I saw the movie in rein, In the middle of rigas old town, and it was sooo. Without names. I cant describe. I just felt. And it was outside, for people in streets. Wonderful. btw it was in the midnight....
I actually finished listening to Ágætis byrjun a bit ago (first Sigur Ros album for me) and it was something and seeing this, makes me want to get more of them and to get this.
That'd be the new Prince of Persia game trailer... It uses Saeglopur :D It was described by Yahtzee... that description doesn't warrant writing here... :P I still love it
I went to their concert in Iceland about a year and half ago, ish, and it was amazing. Never before have I gone to a concert where a white, almost see-through curtain is hung up in front of the stage. Just phenomenal.
Ahoj, včera jsme si udělali díky panu Pekařovi z OPO na samotě Vostrí pěkný promítání právě tohoto projektu. Bylo to velmi pozitivní a pěkné, někdy možná až moc. Díky Sigur Rose vko from Třebíč, CZE

I know, they're so addicting, right?!
I heard one of their songs in a video game trailer and ever since I've had an insatiable thirst for more.

What the hell. A trailer for which game?
KidKobun 3 years ago
