@CasperSpectator I know me too, I was like "You expect me to kill this big beautiful helpless wolf?" I avoided this fight or the longest time. But actually found a way to let him survive, the rumor is true but you don't get anything special out of it besides a pissed off covenenent.
@winginater I'm dead serious, you don't get anything special like a weapon or anything. You actually LOSE stuff. When you join the forest hunters the cat will tell you to kill Sif because she doesn't like him, when he starts limping you can simply not kill him and he will retreat after about 2 minutes. It breaks your covenant and you have a hard as fuck time getting out of the woods. No real point in doing it but you can let him live.
@BaneOfLannister What does that mean? I have issues? You saying that you have to fight a giant wolf would make people think you have "issues" I'm just explaining a theory.
@TheRezzenator The boss fight is at Artorias' grave, which is why his sword is there. Artorias rode on Sif to traverse the Abyss. That's the story between them :P
@TheRezzenator Apparently, Artorias is actually one of the four kings. He abandoned Gwyn's followers to join forces with the Darkwraiths, hence his ability to Abysswalk.
Sif, along with Alvina, were close friends of Artorias, and defend his grave from defilement.
The thing about the Sif-fight, in my opinion is that ubntil now you've fought ugly vile creatures.. I felt bad for killing the first thing that felt truly alive, and somehow honorable in the game.
Oh and are you sure Sif is a he? Where i'm from it's a female name
Actually, the first time I met Sif, he killed me with a cheap tactic, using his dual hit spin to break my guard repeatedly. So I leveled up and got Havel's shield with the enchant shield spell.
Sif killed me no more and the roles got reversed. Every time I killed Sif after that was a sweet revenge, and all I felt was joy, taunting him while he limped.
@kanada514 I killed him first time, I just kept walking backwards from him and his attack never really touched me ( well like the first spin would reach my shield but by the time the second one comes round im alread out of range) was really easy but I did have the Drake sword at hand!
Sif was an asshole. I felt no remorse in killing him. Don't get me wrong, animals dying gets me more than a person I'm unfamiliar with dying, but the remorse line stops when the animal is 3 times my size and is a trained fucking swordsman...er'um Swordswolf.
Do you feel remorse when you are watching a movie and a character dies? That's not real either. Video games can be just as involved as a movie. Especially a game that is 60+ hours, and can really take you away from the problems of your life when you pick up the controller.
The song that plays as you kill a hero's best friend , whose only mission is to defend said hero's grave from being defiled ..... yyyyup , felt like a heel killing him. ESPECIALLY when near death he's limping and exhausted and still trying to fight .....
i m not much of a dog person, so i felt nothing when i killed sif, actually i would even say it was great fun, i went to fight him after i beat the arno londo bosses, had my character beefed up and some nice weapons upgraded to the max, so sif was not a challenge at all, but i did feel bad for killing those giant cats on my way in to sif's lair, i was like "kitties, i don't want to do this to you, but you leave me no choice" then took on all 3 of them at once with some fancy rolling.
Why do people have trouble with sif? I beat him first try, you just have to be able to not fat roll. I did seriously hesitate when he was limping, and I felt bad afterwards. But hey, it's dark sou, and now I can't beat SEATH. Now HE is a challenge.....
@g1gavet "fat Roll" in Dark Souls? There are far more different types of rolling in Dark Souls then Demon's Souls, but personally, I beat him with the slowest roll, as the running and jumping action is the same speed as any other running and jumping move. I beat Seath on my third try. First try he was in a different area, killed me and sent me to some secret prison in the Duke's Archive's, the next he was in the Crystal Caves, and the last, I broke the crystal behind him and cut off his tail.
@AnonymouStalkerCorp i'm not playing CoD dumbass. i've already beat this game. I didn't feel any remorse killing a giant digital dog. maybe some day you'll get out of your house and see what the world is like. until then, continue to feel sorry for something that's isn't real.
Apparently you have no concept of what story is about. Not that you HAD to have felt something when killing Sif, I didn't because he was an asshole. But to say no one should feel sorry for something that isn't real is just plain ignorant. Any emotion can be tied into that too and for any medium.
Funny thing is a while before I fought Sif I was wondering "Hey Dark Souls is amazing and all but I wonder if there will be something like Maiden Astrea in it". Aaaand boom here it is. My heart is breaking :(
I was so engaged in this fight...the supreme wolf slashing my health, has i burned my zweihander and slashed his legs...i wanted him dead...then at the end of his health bar he started to limp...and my heart broke...i was killing the most amazing creature in Dark Souls
I actually felt very sad after I killed Sif... It was as if this great goal I had been striving to achieve had come to a close and at the top of the mountain... Nothing as powerful or as inspiring stood in its place. Not that the rest of the game isn't challenging, its only that Sif represented something more.
It was a very somber notion that I've not felt in a game ONLY through gameplay and one cut-scene with no dialog.
This is a testament to how amazing Dark Souls is in every way possible.
@GarlandFraser Priscilla was interesting in concept but getting to Sif felt like some sort of pilgrimage. Being slain by him: a sign of my strength. More than a clear defeat, it represented a test. The losses were harsh but every attempt at Sif gave me new insight into the dance that made up his moves and what I needed to do to beat him.
I beat Priscilla in one go without any true effort. Like so many other bosses, brute force was the answer.
@ReikoSpazz Well, I beat Sif on my first try, alone, with no magic, and a clumsy roll... the journey past all the phantoms was harder than the actual boss... And I can't rank this guy on the same level as Maiden Astraea, as with Garl and Astraea, there was a contextual build up. All the NPC's began talking about them, and saying how pure she was, then some others kept telling me she was an evil demon, and the mystery was finally solved after reaching the end of the valley...
@ReikoSpazz ... only to find out that the morality was very gray. That the two just wanted to be left alone in a vague, almost romantic relationship with each other and the people they were healing. Gave me a queezy feeling when I beat them. Sif is almost unexplained in his origins until after you get his soul. He's some guardian spirit (obviously not a real wold) of Sir Artorias, who is already dead. Priscilla gave us the "leave me be" speech much like Astraea. It wasn't as strong but whtevs.
That's the difference between the two games for me. Narrative.
Sif, unexplained and yet I was moved simply from facing him. Astraea and Garl were both interesting and moving from the ideas that were given to you by dialogue from them and others. They gave me pause as to what was really going on in DeS as a whole. Sif was a personal experience in triumph.
Its really amazing how they've managed to create two worlds with such rich characters with very few details on them.
@ReikoSpazz While I admire that both games can conjure such unique and powerful experiences through such minimal narrative, I'd have to personally rank Sif as a cross between the Flame Lurker, and Old King Doran. He's a test of might, a guardian who one must pass to achieve greater things. I never felt sorry for him, possibly because I'm cat lover myself...
@ReikoSpazz That was.... Beautiful. Seldom do I read comments that express exactly how I feel towards a specific aspect of a video game. You did it flawlessly. Thank you, sir.
@ReikoSpazz I felt sad for Sif after trying so hard to beat this great thing only to succeed to beating him to low health only to see his limp and struggle with this music going I felt so bad about achieving it. Great battle, music and Location
Indeed! He was one of the characters from the trailer that actually made me really curious. Amongst all of the horrible toothed monsters or demonic beasts you've got a normal looking wolf with a sword in its mouth. That alone made me "wut".
That said, he was given probably one of the more iconic scenes in the game in one of the most interesting areas. While "just a forest" it still captured an awesome ambiance.
@burrowingduck dude we are all entitled by our opinion you may enjoy killing him over and over (and you may not be the only one) but Reiko (and others) felt sad just killing him
@burrowingduck ^_^ you got to accept other opinions...i hope ill cross your path ingame :D maybe then i will enjoy your suffering as much as you enjoyed Sif's
I had managed to get to him before my soul level was on an even keel with him or even before I needed to. So the majority of my experiences were basically all one hit kills every time I attempted. Also I didn't know what to expect from the fight so I was going to feel him out via combat. Seeing that he was so much stronger than me at the time, that strategy didn't work too well.
@lifeiscrap103 Yeah that's the way to do it. The attack you really need to watch out for is the double hit spin. You can block the rest of them, but with the spin attack chances are the first attack will break your guard and the second will cleave you in two.
@l3awl3ag I found that out the hard way, but with a good Stability Shield (like the Greatshield of Artorious) you can take both hits and still keep your guard.
@lifeiscrap103 Yeah I can do that on my main character. Not because my shield is particularly good (I think I use the Spider Shield +15, been a while since I played), I just have tons of stamina. I always pump endurance in these games lol.
But yeah once you can block that spin attack, this fight is a lot easier.

@ReikoSpazz Shut up. That wolf had it coming. I was nothing but overjoyed to see him suffer.

@burrowingduck dude we are all entitled by our opinion you may enjoy killing him over and over (and you may not be the only one) but Reiko (and others) felt sad just killing him

@ReikoSpazz I found this boss to be pretty easy. All you need to do is stay under him and most of his attacks go right over you.

This reminds me a bit of Demon's Crest OST
