Excellent compilation with a good choice of ancillary shots as well; however, with regard to music on these sorts of videos I have a definite preference for none!
At the risk of being repetitious.....this is in a class of its own again. Keep up the excellent work so others can see what really deserves 5+ stars..
No, 45231 doesn't feature in any of my videos as it'd moved north before i joined youtube. I tried to compile this film using as much unseen footage as possible and the black 5 featured heavily in the preceeding years.
I'm afraid that I can only echo the words of everyone else who has commented on this incredible film. Once again 5* and another favourite!! The choice of music was something else - it made the piece great.
Just a quick question - did I see you at Whitchurch, Hants on the 21st Nov to see Clan Line?
Thanks James. The track was chosen before i started the video. I just hope Sting approves. To your question, although i've been to Whitchurch many times, including chasing Clan Line on a New Years Eve VSOE, on this occasion it wasn't me.
Outstanding. Some excellent footage there. I recognise many of the locations and was on quite a few of the excursions featured. This video brings back some great memories. There really is something special about the spectacle of steam at night. Thanks for putting this on here.
Congratulations, a wonderful video! There is something quite magical about steam at night, particularly steam at speed through stations. A favourite example is DiAgostini's 'Moonlight Cavalcade' from the British Steam Railways Series. The 10 minute compilation is magnificent. The section I turn to most often is 6024 'King Edward l' rushing through Warrington Station at dusk; the sense of power is palpable.
A musical sound track ? Not for me. The sound of steam is enough? Anyway, wonderful
Following on, the use of music, or not, is such a personal thing. The murmuring of a distant train, the anticipation, the gradual increase in sound leading to the thunder of arrival, and then retreat into darkness; wonderful !
I wonder how good Martyn's film would be without music; I suspect very good indeed. A second non music upload would be interesting, if only for comparison.
Thanks for your continued support. I'm glad it brought back memories for you, and it also gave me a chance to share footage that i've not used in the past.
Thanks very much. Yes it was fun to compile but you wouldn't believe how many versions i had before settling on this.Bits added, bits taken away, and certain clips set to match the lyrics. It took a while but i'm pleased with the results.
Long time no see Martyn. I'm impressed of how you've put all these nice night shots altogether with the music which is well composed with the shots! Nice to see your flavour of filming again, hope you and co are back in action soon! :)
Thanks Ryan. I'm afraid we have been out of the loop recently for one reason or another (mainly laziness) but with plenty of trips round this way in the lead up to Christmas we'll soon be back in the swing of things. ps. I hope you appreciate your cameo role at Teignmouth in this piece.
Yes, I can see the close correlation, especially near the start - I've watched the video four or five times now. It is my favourite Railway themed YouTube video of 2009. I am quite willing for somebody to share with me a better video for 2009, but I won't hold my breath!
That was one of your best to date Martyn, a true Master Class in Railway filming after dark. You've packed an incredible number of sequences into less than 5 mins....incredible work that will be treasured....Many Thanks...5*......Bob
Thanks for your continued support Bob. I've gathered up these clips over a number of years. There are 67 in all featuring 18 engines and i'm pleased to be able to piece them together for your enjoyment.
Very nicely put together. Good steam interest and a good balance of "topography" !

Fabulous footage, shame about the music. The sound of the locos would have been much better to listen to instead of Sting.
