  • Very nicely put together. Good steam interest and a good balance of "topography" !

  • this is a truly amaizing video.

  • brill, they have said it all 5* +,especially @1.28 mins.

  • Easily one of the best steam tour videos on Youtube, well put together, enjoyable, never boring. Something for us all to aspire to!

  • This video is actually epic! Just awesome! :)

  • very nice film ,,thanks for sharing

  • Brilliant !

  • Stunning! No other words to describe it :)

  • Well you certainly aint an 'AM' You are a 'PRO' And I loved this video. 2 million stars !!

  • Excellent compilation with a good choice of ancillary shots as well; however, with regard to music on these sorts of videos I have a definite preference for none!

  • what is the backing track??

  • @woodymustang32 Bring On The Night By The Police.

  • Fabulous footage, shame about the music. The sound of the locos would have been much better to listen to instead of Sting.

  • At the risk of being repetitious.....this is in a class of its own again. Keep up the excellent work so others can see what really deserves 5+ stars..

  • I cant stop watching this, its just epic!

  • great video = really well crafted 5*

  • the shot at 1:32 , isnt on youtube is it?

i cant find the loco in your videos

  • No, 45231 doesn't feature in any of my videos as it'd moved north before i joined youtube. I tried to compile this film using as much unseen footage as possible and the black 5 featured heavily in the preceeding years.

  • Beautifully filmed..loved it.

  • One question, where is the shot at 0:25 taken please?

  • At 0:25 Oliver Cromwell is seen pulling away from Theale loop near Reading.

  • Lovely video.

  • I'm afraid that I can only echo the words of everyone else who has commented on this incredible film. Once again 5* and another favourite!! The choice of music was something else - it made the piece great.

Just a quick question - did I see you at Whitchurch, Hants on the 21st Nov to see Clan Line?

  • Thanks James. The track was chosen before i started the video. I just hope Sting approves. To your question, although i've been to Whitchurch many times, including chasing Clan Line on a New Years Eve VSOE, on this occasion it wasn't me.

  • Outstanding. Some excellent footage there. I recognise many of the locations and was on quite a few of the excursions featured. This video brings back some great memories. There really is something special about the spectacle of steam at night. Thanks for putting this on here.

  • Congratulations, a wonderful video! There is something quite magical about steam at night, particularly steam at speed through stations. A favourite example is DiAgostini's 'Moonlight Cavalcade' from the British Steam Railways Series. The 10 minute compilation is magnificent. The section I turn to most often is 6024 'King Edward l' rushing through Warrington Station at dusk; the sense of power is palpable.

A musical sound track ? Not for me. The sound of steam is enough? Anyway, wonderful

  • Following on, the use of music, or not, is such a personal thing. The murmuring of a distant train, the anticipation, the gradual increase in sound leading to the thunder of arrival, and then retreat into darkness; wonderful !

I wonder how good Martyn's film would be without music; I suspect very good indeed. A second non music upload would be interesting, if only for comparison.

  • Thanks for your continued support. I'm glad it brought back memories for you, and it also gave me a chance to share footage that i've not used in the past.

  • Really really really good. And I get a sense of the fun that you had in putting it all together :-)

    A definite fav.

    *****

  • Thanks very much. Yes it was fun to compile but you wouldn't believe how many versions i had before settling on this.Bits added, bits taken away, and certain clips set to match the lyrics. It took a while but i'm pleased with the results.

  • Long time no see Martyn. I'm impressed of how you've put all these nice night shots altogether with the music which is well composed with the shots! Nice to see your flavour of filming again, hope you and co are back in action soon! :)

  • Thanks Ryan. I'm afraid we have been out of the loop recently for one reason or another (mainly laziness) but with plenty of trips round this way in the lead up to Christmas we'll soon be back in the swing of things. ps. I hope you appreciate your cameo role at Teignmouth in this piece.

  • Ahh yes my breif cameo at Teignmouth, yes Its great to have me in this film too :)

  • Your efforts clearly show! Super and well done to all.

  • Thank you very much.

  • that was brilliant a great video very well done on put together 5*

  • Cheers mate, i'm glad you liked it.

  • Mate, that is some stunning videography there! The song, editing, clips, perfect :) 5*

  • Excellent work there 1Z64! 5*

  • Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it.

  • What and exquisite video 5* and fav. Well filmed and creatively edited - good choice of soundtrack too!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Thank you. I chose the soundtrack first and then built the video around it.

  • Yes, I can see the close correlation, especially near the start - I've watched the video four or five times now. It is my favourite Railway themed YouTube video of 2009. I am quite willing for somebody to share with me a better video for 2009, but I won't hold my breath!

    Well Done! - Mike

  • Pretty much only in the UK could you put together a film like that. Very impressive.

  • Thanks for your comment.

  • Wonderful, wonderful, congratulations again and again. 5 **********

  • Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Superb***************

  • Thank You. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • That was one of your best to date Martyn, a true Master Class in Railway filming after dark. You've packed an incredible number of sequences into less than 5 mins....incredible work that will be treasured....Many Thanks...5*......Bob

  • Thanks for your continued support Bob. I've gathered up these clips over a number of years. There are 67 in all featuring 18 engines and i'm pleased to be able to piece them together for your enjoyment.

  • great vid 5* look at 1.54 im in your shot at brookwood.

  • Thank You. Filmed on the 13th September it's the most recent clip in the video.

  • Your night footage is truly amazing
