So, I don't dislike the Dixie Chicks for having an opinion (even though they really didn't). I dislike them for making a pandering offhand comment on a subject millions were having to take seriously. While the DC's pandered to the anti-war crowd and got rich, millions were kissing friends and family goodbye for that war. Some, for the last time. 90% of Americans and ALL of congress was for the war when she spoke up. If she had meant it, it would have been different. Opinion?OK. Pander? Fail.

and for the record, Toby Keith has been successful competing against 100's of other solo male C&W singers. Forbes recognized him for being third in income among all artists in 2008. All. Toby Keith visits them every year, and armed forces personnel eat free at his restaurants. Nat says she doesnt' understand patriotism. Toby lives it.

You're right, Patsy & Elvis started out prior to 59, but for Elvis what about the other 18 years he recorded? He only won 3 Grammys and they were for gospel. Garth Brooks' career took off at the same time as the Dixie Chicks. In 2006, the Dixie Chicks drew 13,500 people to one concert in LA. In 2007, Garth Brooks sold 85,000 tickets in 59 minutes, doing five charity concerts in two days at the same place. He is the highest selling solo singer of all time and sits only behind the Beatles in total sales, with Elvis coming in third. And he is STILL selling albums. How many grammys does he have?

They were being courted by Sony to be the flagship artists for their new label, Monument Records, BEFORE Natalie Maines arrived. The sisters were desparate when the two other band members CHOSE to leave. The lead singer at that time, Laura Lynch, saw the roadtrips interfering in raising her daughter, and she left. What she didn't count on was that so many would see her disingenuous comment as belittling to many on a subject they were having to take seriously. While she pandered for profit, they were off to war

The Dixie Chicks were well known enough in C&W that they were selected to, now follow closely, open for some of the biggest names in C&W before Natalie showed up. Sony had already approached them to be the flagship act for their new label. They won the Telluride Bluegrass Competition five years before Nat. The were scheduled for a far east tour when Laura Lynch quit to raise her family. They were desparate when Nat showed up. You'll never guess who paid Natalie for her first show as a DC.

They had a running forum called Chick Chat before Nat. Their first paycheck with Nat singing came from the Texas Governor's inauguration, when according to their Chick Chat, they celebrated the election of the "whiter, brighter, George Bush". That's right. Nat's first dollar came from the state of Texas to celebrate GW becoming governor of Texas.

There was a "fued", if you will, between TK and the Chicks. There was none between them and Garth, yet you've chose to cast a stone at them while you continue to refer back to Garth. The feud was started by Nat when she bashed TK's song. He was #1 and they were stalled for a week at #14. Immediately after her unrequested and unprovoked bash, they re-released Travelin' Soldier to capitalize on the controversy. It went to #1, but fell in a week after her comment in London. TK said if she wanted a feud, he would bury her. Well, he didn't have to. She just kept on talking and bashing, and killed her career. BTW, I didn't care for the Beatles, either, but many did.

It wasn't just me that didn't like what she said. Millions of people abandoned them. And as far as TK "thinking" he's bad, check out the video where some drunk through a beer up on stage. His place is about 30 miles from mine. He's one of the nicest guys you'll meet, and he usually will overlook the first slam at him. Don't do it twice, though. Jr. talked shit about being "rowdy" but never was. Toby isn't rowdy, but you don't want to get on his bad side. He is NOT a small man in any way.

Julio is in the guinness book of world records more than any other solo artist of any genre at any time. Elvis, Patsy, and Hank were performing BEFORE the grammys existed (first awards in 1959). I agree that C&W has typically been the slackwater for Grammys and just one more reason why they have received criticism. Garth doesn't sing C&W? LOL.
