Just got the gun in California. I bought it at Turners from a private party dealer. The guy who owned it before me was a cop. So, I'm one of the very few in Cali that has a ruger lcp to his collection.
I'm sorry peoples ! But I cannot see how any co. can justify charging $140.-$160. for a small block of plastic with a lazer on it. Think about it.You can go to the 7-11 and buy a novalty lazer keychain for $3.00.Ok,I understand this Crimson Trace is not a novalty but still, how much could the lazer on this gun access.cost. Then you add the plastic frame with an on/off button. How Much could this possibly cost to manufacture, especially if the damn thing was made in China ? Where is this made BTW ?
@demmylowther For twice the price,I can buy either another 380 or a nice .22 cal. target pistol like a Rugar,Sig,Beretta,Walther. If your not a gun nut and this is the only gun you will ever own,and it's only for a "What if" situation,I can probalby see getting voluntarily rooked by this company. But,if you have many guns like alot of guys do,I cannot see the point of lubing up your butt crack, and getting monetarily screwed by this company. What is the profit margin on this piece?
Since it is mounted below the barrel with no adjustments, won't there be a difference between the red dot and actual bullet penetration? For example, if you were to line up the mark with front sights, would the laser be acute or is the lazer meant to give you a rough indication of where the bullet will go?
We offer a whole set of holsters for this pistol. Check out our web site at talontraininggroup and look for the online store. We have IWB, Pocket and Wallet holsters. I still carry this pistol daily in a wallet or IWB holster daily. I like my Taurus TCP just as much. I sit on this laser in the holster every day and after well over a year of carrying this way, have not had a problem maintaining point of aim with the laser.
if someone pulls a gun out on you can you shoot them legally and it be justified. I would be scared to shot someone because it would not be under the wrong jurisdiction.
Depends on the state and jurisdiction. What state? Generally, if you are legally carrying and you reasonably believe that you a person is going to cause you death or great bodily harm, you can use deadly force to defend yourself. If it boils down to my life or theirs, I am almost universally justified in defending myself. It then depends on whether I was carrying legally or not. Some laws in some states prohibit that.
Hey, i have a Ruger LCP with crimson trace laser grip. I am looking for a inside the waist leather holster to hit it. Do you know any good sites or companys that makes one?
I like the LCR so much, that I am considering the LCP. I really appreciate the comments from current owners who have done the "ah shit drill". Thanks for all the postings.
i would not reccomend a .380, because since their such a popular gun, the rounds are extremely hard to come by, i would reccomend a more popular round like a .22 or a .25
I would say try to find some of the pesonal defense ammo that has the "ballistis ball" style tip, still get good expansion but the tip of the round hopefully won't cause the jams. The .380 with the proper bullet designs, like modern hollowpoints has similiar performance to a 9mm luger round. But somewhat less velocity means less performance downrange. Not that you are gona be shooting far with the lcp anyway.
When I use Hollow points, my LCP jams alot. No matter what brand of HP I use. Full metal jackets work fine. Does anyone else have this problem? Please help thanks
@eastofakron actually, this is not uncommon unfortunately. Call Ruger's Customer service and talk to them. Some folks have sent them back and they have done some polishing of the feed ramp and chamber. If it won't feed, something is wrong. When you send it back, make sure you have a metal magazine release, if not, ask them to upgrade your pistol. Customer service there is great. But, you gotta call them first.
@eastofakron I had the same problem but I reload and found that a long cartridge has problems. By shortening the C.O.L (cartridge overall length) from .980 to .950 and using a round nose hollow point I got 100% reliability. Load is 3.1 grains of Hodgon Titegroup with a CCI small pistol primer, mixed OF brass and a Montana Gold 95 grain JHP. Velocity is around 975 and 100% reliable.
@eastofakron Try Corbon Pow R Ball. They load like a ball round, but perform like a hollow point. That is what I carry in my Ultra Tactical Kimber. It's hard to find 380 ammo nowadays, so if you do find 380 Pow R Ball, please let me know.
@eastofakron Sorry to hear about your JHP jamming, but I'm not surprised since your piece is a Ruger. Before I got rid of them, my Ruger Mini 14 and the venerable Ruger .22 auto jammed with such regularity, even on primo factory ammo, that i considered them both useless as dependable defense weapons. Ruger somehow has developed a rep as a great gun, but as you have unfortunately discovered, they're shit. My Kel Tec P3AT has never malfunctioned, even during its "Breakin" first 100 shots.
@146942 i have a ruger 1022 i cant even remeber a time when it jammed lol and my p95 has jamed i think once in prob 200 to 300 rounds :D love mine hehe
ich1banGT1 great question. ive though of that my self and ofter try to look at others to see if they have anything in there pockets. i carry everywere legally and try to avoid those places that dont allow.
I have an unusual question. Say in a given normal environment, how many people would say are carrying a concealed gun in Wal-Mart, given around 500 people in the store at peak hours? How many people are carrying a concealed gun in a mall setting in an average mall setting of 3000 people?
@ich1banGT1- Depends on wheather or not you're asking about legally armed citizens or criminals, and wheather or not the business in question allows legally armed citizens to carry their firearms on the premesis...personally, I do not frequent ANY business that makes me disarm myself, but I'm CRAZY that way. Go figure.
I sure hope your not touting this laser as a substitute for sights at mid ranges between 5-20 yards. Because the laser is only a reference and at those ranges you should use sights and the laser as reference only
Laser are great for a number of reasons. Outside about 10 yards in daylight, however, you cannot really see a laser. In the dark, it works great at any distance, especially when you cannot see your sights due to darkness. Sights are always the best solution, but, for some older people with vision loss, that is difficult. Also, the intimidation factor of a laser may prevent a shooting. They are also great for dryfire training. If you are shooting a LCP at 20 yards, well, thats a long way.
I was surprised to find mine come from the factory set very poorly. I haven't tinkered with it just yet, but I do need to get the wallet holster from Talon Training Group.
Typically, it should come out of the box at around 50 feet. However, you should look at the sights, then activate the laser while holding the sight picture steady at a reasonable distance. If the laser is off, adjust the laser using the set screws. We have a video describing the process.
The gun is awesome and the crimson trace works wonders. I too am left handed. The gun feels so natural. The down side to the gun is that it is a 380 and the ammo is hard to come by. 38 ammo is much easier to find.
One of us is left handed and it works great. The gun is no more awkward for a left handed person than a right handed one. The mag release just has to be pushed with the trigger finger. The Laser makes no difference from left to right. The gun is small and I can't say it is a pleasure to shoot. Neither is a J frame revolver. However, they are not range guns. They are there to deliver the largest bullet offered in this smallest package. Get one. I carry mine every day.
I see you guys have the best price on the laser grip on the web, so ill definitely be ordering from you. Just sum quick questions, i'm left handed, what do you feel about the use of this gun for me, will it be comfortable? Also, how about the crimson trace, it looks like it will operate nicely for both dexteritys, do you agree?
Don't know the life. I have never burned one out of any make or model and have used a bunch. The batteries have a 4 hour constant on time. Currently, we are running a "free batteries for life" special through the factory.
That's way cool. I'm sure you put a lot of time into the design & mfr. to make a laser pointer fit this exact pistol nicely. But at about 1/2 the MSRP of the pistol, it seems rather expensive. Not for me anyways, but cool gadget.
Rich, I didn't design it, but, it is one of the cheaper versions from Crimson Trace, 1911 lasers cost several hundred dollars. In fact, most cost about half of the MSRP of a gun. However, many folks feel that actually hitting the target is a plus with any gun. These are not for everyone and most professional shooters wouldn't have them. They are for marginal shooters or those who want something to deter bad guys. I carry them on SWAT guns and on Pocket Pistols as the factory sights suck.

380 is a 9mm short
Brass can be cut down if one reloads.
22 or 25 are not adequate for self defense in any regard..especially torso shots
380 in Double tap or Buffalo Bore IS more than adequate 280FPE!

I recently shot an lcp , while it wasnt bad , the Kahr pm9 blows it away in every respect except a very nominal size difference.
Plus the 9mm is a much better round than a 380
