Good to hear from you, John. Thanks for the comment on Aldyth. She really is a perfect little boat. There are advantages to small boats, as I'm sure you know. We looked up photos of your Meadowlark. She is lovely and with that 16" draft, looks very practical and fun for your area. I found a good home for the Ducati early on. Hope your summer is good so far and you are getting some good sailing. Best, Andy
Oh Aldyth, best boat I ever owned. She lived up to the expression "built like a church and comfortable as an old boot." The Ducati was a fairly poor engine but I was fairly poor then too and it was cheap. I'm sailing a L F Hereschoff "Meadowlark" now...a good bay, gunkholer and Bahamas boat. I'm glad to see Aldyth sailing. She is a beauty. Best regards to you Frank and Andy. -John Lacoco
Yes, LaCoco was the name. Thank you for that Andy. Interesting about the Ducati. I remember now he told me about it and I had never heard of a Ducati marine engine although I used to own a Ducati motorcycle back in the 1970's! They have a well deserved reputation for motorcycles but perhaps not for boat engines! Trust the Yanmar is doing well for you and that certainly sounds like a good choice. Best, Frank
Thank you for writing, Andy, and love to hear from you at any time. And how interesting about the lady whose father-in-law commissioned the building of Aldyth! The internet does link folks up, doesn't it! If I am not mistaken, you acquired Aldyth from the chap in the Chesapeake Bay area, John..... will I have forgotten his name. Did meet him though and he was a very nice chap. I believe he added the (Italian?) engine. Wonder how that is doing. Best, Frank East
John LaCoco. I didn't meet him. I bought the boat sight unseen (but with a survey) and had her shipped to the west coast. And it was a Ducati engine. I didn't even give the Ducati a chance. I changed out the engine to a GM 10 Yanmar before I ever put the boat in the water. Great fun to have these contacts so easily, I agree.
Well, isn't she lovely! That's my dear old "Aldyth" owned back in the 1980's and home ported in Kennybunkport, Maine. You've done a splended job keeping her looking shipshape. All the best.
Good to hear from you! Thanks for the kind words. We are on a little road trip right now but when we get back home I'll get in touch. I received a letter from a woman in England whose father-in-law had Aldyth built. She as a young bride, with her husband, did a lot of sailing on Aldyth. Andy Goodwin
