I'd think it was a combination of persistence hunting with parasites, etc. Try running a marathon in a wool jacket on a hot day. The first mile would be feasible. The last would be your last. Male pattern baldness is perhaps a remnant of the gene that initiated the process (though the thought just occured to me sans research), and balding is uncommon in women. Being a good hunter (not to mention migratory) as well as disease free are equally important factors.

@Opdehoede The "beach lifestyle" explanation does a relatively poor job of explaining why ladies depilate themselves, though. I do mention adaptations for swimming - and they might be *part* of the answer - but they are not the main piece of the puzzle.

@seemysig Ladys want to look as much as possible like young woman. Thats the reason they shave and depilate and also put rouge on their cheeks etc.
