  • I love the sound of the flowerpot bandwagon, did you meet Bill and Ben while you were on it?

  • Hi Simon, your 4 kg of clay don't look like "my" 4 kg ... they look much more like "my" 7 kg. Is that any rules or consideration about the volume and the weight of clay ? Actually I am buying by 10 kg and in a plastic bag. But frankly I never checked the effective weight. Another question would be for an equivalent of a given weight may be the "volume" is different ??? Many thanks for your kind feedback ! Joël

  • wow, i just found your channel and its amazing what you can do! I am also a potter at my highschool in New jersey. I wish i could raise the sides like you do with only your hands! by chance would you know how to give adcie to an porrter who is an amputee?

  • wow. had me on the edge of my seat

  • wait, it says that in my name on here-where to search.. must be brain dead tonight... Anyway you are a huge help to me learning how to throw a pot

  • Simon

I used the newspaper trick to lift off two bowls I made. Works like a charm. I use a lot of what you teach, works great and has me well ahead of the game. I just need to learn your spiral wedging technique.

I have started to video my finished pots, you can find them when you search for "Markpottery" here on youtube.

  • We call that slap centering here in Maryland. That is the first step we teach to beginners to help them get the wet centering easier.

  • Hello Simon , Great to see this . Throwing ten pounders in Honduras on a light weight kick wheel ( two sheets of plywood and no cement ! ) I used to say they turned up the temperature in the shop for the ten pounders !! Its a bit of extra work but what a great flowerpots . Good on you !! The rounder the pot the harder to pick up but your paper trick worked just great !! The pots you did here in Connecticut came out of the kiln and everyone loves them. All the best , yours Guy

  • pot seemed a little off

  • Simon,

Love the paper trick! Your clay must be so plastic for you to pound it into center and open with your fist. I am still trying to get mixed clay that isn't so stiff. Great technique for taking the muscle work out of the large pot. I will try that for sure.

Always learn something from your videos and still practicing!

  • Hey Simon, Have you seen the videos about Isaac Button? British country potter. You making the flower pots reminds me of when I watched him and how he loaded his kiln.

    Looking good like always :)

  • A giant pinch pot to start with!!!!!! :o)

  • Kiln space must become an issue?

  • can't imagine tryng a 9 lb piece on my treadle wheel. great job Simon, will try the new method of centering for a large piece

you have helped so much with my throwing. hope to get to flower pots tomorrow.

    still clicking and practicing.

  • Thanks, Simon. Great to see you making a larger piece.

  • Great job!! I recently started using the whole side of my r hand to lift 4lb or more ( I am confident up to 6 lb now, thank you Simon), for the 1st lift or 2, then go to the knuckle. Really helps me get the clay off the bottom. You have given me a challenge!!

  • Oh jeeze, that's a huge lump of clay. I've never thrown anything close to that,.

  • Hi Simon, think I'll go out to my shed and throw some flower pots, wish me luck;-D Thanks ~ Karen in CT

  • very impressive. I'll have to keep that starting technique in mind for my kick wheel. Thought it was going to collapse on you on that last lift it wobbled so much.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • Simon, I had all the faith in the world that you'd get that off the wheel!!!! Nice technique in the beginning , I'll remember that when I'm having a frustrating day.LOL

Warm regards from Debbie in Florida

  • Nice pot

  • Thanks Simon - your clips always keeps away the lonesome studio blues.

Up up and away - going to practice now...
