personally, never felt it`s out of the place, in fact i feel a very special connection among all the songs in the way they are arranged on this album. There is this harmonious silence in each beat, yes... Every time I listen to this album I find another little something.
Corona Radiata are several protective layers surrounding ova or unfertilized egg cells, responsible with supplying the ova or egg cell with protein. The artwork for the song most probably represents an egg cell with the distinct corona radiata surrounding it. This might be a lead in to some sort of impregnation with the Demon Seed (another song by NiN)
@KingofSomeKingdom I don't really know. Corona Radiata is latin for "radiant halo" or "glowing circle," so maybe it has to do with the album's subtitle: Halo 27
@rainethesage Halo 27 just denotes it's the 27th Nine Inch Nails release. There is a Halo labeling and corresponding release number for every Nine Inch Nails single or album that has been put out.
@KingofSomeKingdom Whenever I hear this song I think of birth and regeneration, so, maybe that has something todo with it? Idk, just my interpretation. :)
I imagined looking through a fan placed at the end of a tunnel. Golden-redish lights dimmed past the spinning blades. It grew slightly louder and a large human figure peered its eyes past the blade. It took something from its hands and began cutting the metal, then all of the sudden a swarm of some flying parasites buzzed behind him. They jabbed him in the back and through his eyes came small mosquito-like bugs, digging under the eyeball. Toward the end, the bugs broke through and came after me.
The first time I ever really listened to this song was when I was all alone one evening, watching Legion in my room. I began getting into this song when the second part kicked in, especially around 5:14- the friikkin end! I remember picturing an apocalyptic world, with orange skies and ruins, but it was *sigh*.. Wonderful! Now I listen to this song every night, and I can still see that apocalyptic world, and even recently, in my dreams! Trent Reznor is haunting my dreams!! :P
i like this album as well as year zero tho i gotta say that the last two albums were not nearly as aggressive as the earlier albums. of course nin have always had many mellow & atmospheric masterpieces as well as morbidly sad songs which were just as enjoyable but there had always been many massive aggressive songs thrown into the mix. i think the last 2 albums lack that. reznor is probably the best artist of our time, i would just love to hear another album from nin as intense as broken was.
I named my son Reznor. Cannot describe what NIN and Trent Reznor have done for me through good times and bad. The Slip came out while I was going through the toughtest time in my life. For some reason this song gave me peace and hope. The first night I heard this song, I met my son's mother. Fast forward to the day he was born, I played this song for him when he just 7 hours old. Sorry for the ramble. But as you can imagine this songs means a lot to me.
I was laying down to this the other night, my room was dead quiet and this is all I heard. And about 5:30 or so, I just almost felt in a trance like state, I can't even begin to explain it, but my God, Trent can make music. Even without words, and I'm sure I speak for many when I say this, it still speaks.
Definitely reminds me of one of Trent's major influences, Coil. That's one of the best compliments I can pay, Coil was outstanding! Don't listen to music as much as I used to (have listened to NIN since 1990/PHM), but The Slip has been a pleasant surprise. Great stuff!
I love this track. It makes me think of a calm after the world has ended, with wind howling through the skeletons of blown out buildings. And maybe two people crawling out of the rubble and ash to see we are now extinct. Some sort of beautiful apocalypse.
@akirapills767 I agree with that. Everything would be all dusty and silent. A small film of ash would cover our silently rotting corpses. The oceans would have dried up. Everything would be hot, but not humid and smell like dust.
Oh man, that tune kicking in at 5:40... Deep, heavy, hypnotic, frightening, relaxing, amazing. I adore Reznor's work. And my NIN tattoo is just to underline my true adoration of this artist's music.
to me this song is like the ending of something. but in a violent way.. Like i feel at certin parts things r gonna come down and the next song is like the rebuld
this track makes me like space. like everything is slow but not too slow. like everything fits. all the pieces are coming together. i love nine inch nails
This album starts 'weakly' (but weak for NIN = awesome in general, obv.) but become really interesting in its second part. Lights In The Sky/Corona Radiata/The Four of Us are Dying/Demon Seed > a trip in another world. I would say 'fragilesque'. :)
I love this song for two reasons. Mainly because it has a really cosmic peaceful feel, but also because it's an amazing prelude to Demon Seed, which is on the exact opposite end of the spectrum.
I would have to say the best artist that I know of that makes ambient/drone music closest to this is Aphex Twin. Try "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" and "Selected Ambient Works II", specifically "Windowsill" or "Mold" off of "Selected Ambient Works II".
haha, definitely one of my all time fav's too. there's actually a couple pieces of guitar music I wrote with some of the music from Z64 as inspiration for them.
I'd have to agree.. I've had this album for a year now, and I've always skipped over this song, but I've really paid attention to it now and it really does take you to a different place.

@Aurelius27x Yup and this song just feels at place in the real world. It's just static but boy oh boy is it pleasant static. You feel like you're drifting through outer space & it's an even better experience when playing this song via your car radio
Ambient music has it's perks actually. Just depends on what you're into. To me this is really enjoyable. If you just relax and let the sound absorb you, really listening to each sound, then it's just as interesting as a track with vocals.
Radio is based off of the Latin word radiata, just like the word virile, meaning manly, is from the Latin vir, meaning man. They don't have the same meaning, but are related.
And let me reiterate: Latin was spoken in ancient Rome, before the discovery of Radio waves. They would not have a word for something that didn't exist in their minds.
I have no clue what the Hell "Dog Latin" is supposed to be, but Latin used for scientific terms is real Latin. Sometimes it will be Latinized English, like the word Jagurundi is made Iagourundi, but it still follows Latin rules.
And to further discredit your stance, look at the picture. If it does not define "Corona Radiata" to mean "Radiating Crown", then there is no help for you.
The did have meteors and all of this other shit that's being put to blame.
I doubt the world is going to end in some fowl swoop. Eventually, our species will die out, perhaps at our own doing, but life is resilient. Other species will live on and inherit the world long after we're gone.
Before the 20th century began, 1 man got up where everyone could see him and convinced a group of people that the world was going to end. Well, it didn;t and we're still here. It's not anymore true then as it is now.

A good song but very creepy... makes me think of the end of the world, a huge asteroid too big for us to detonate in time for the pieces not to hit earth crashing right into our ocean, creating a massive 150-foot wave of global destruction. Easily Trent's best instrumental though.
It would be a perfect song for all those videos that explain what could very well actually happen in 2012, although the only thing I think will happen is a VERY gradual polar shift.
from the passin of the 10th planet u mean. wen nibiru comes bak round on its 3600 yr orbit. it ll be catastrophic not gradual polar shift. not that i think its completely true but im open to the idea. alot of evidence for it.
It's not only Niburu finally bursting into the core of our solar system, it's the fact that every planet in our solar system will be aligned with the sun and our super-massive black hole. And yes, there is a lot of evidence that it will be catastrophic, but at the same time, there is also a lot of evidence to suggest the polar shift (it it does in fact occur) will be very gradual.
well the gradual polar shift will be catatrohpic anyway cus the world sustains itself in such a delicate balance even the slightest throw can be huge so ur right abt tht, ppl forget it wont be sudden cus time elapses much slower in the cosmos. but the planets aligning too all gets a bit coincidental dont u think? its starts to get a bit fanciful
I found something out. The alignment is just a cool galactic event that happens once every 25,800 years. But on that same day, we will be passing through our galactic plan, which is the most dense part of our solar system. THAT is what MIGHT cause a polar shift. Planet X actually has nothing to do with it. Seriously, look it up. Plus a lot of people think Planet X is the size of the sun. Not true, because the discovery of a planet that size would have been all over the news.
Planet X is a crock of crap that was supposed to happen in 2003. It was a big Ooops for the masses buying into it. So they adopted the Mayan Calendar's end date of Dec. 21, 2012
That's what boggles my mind. The Mayan calender ends... so fucking what? There will be a galactic alignment with our super-massive black hole. So what? People don't seem to know that when we discovered our black hole, we found out it's much too far away from our solar system to affect us negatively in any way. 12/21/12 is just a galactic alignment... that's it.
it def has something to do with the radiation emitted from the sun's corona!

The Romans knew not what a radio wave is, so I doubt that.
"Radiating Crown" is much more likely. Both of them end in "-a", the feminime nomintative ending, so "Radiata" describes "Corona".

Great answer Somborac420!

12/21/12 is just a galactic alignment... that's it.
