  • Return trip to Liverpool was frightening.Broke down in rough sea where we bobbed up and down like a cork for about half an hour.

Lots of pasengers being sick and panic starting to set in. Sealine was going above the windows.

Engines got going again and we got back to Liverpool but very bumpy at slow speed. Astonished to see it still in service 30 years later.

Would love to go out to Japan and do it all again.

  • I traveled on this jetfoil in the summer of 1980 at the age of 13.

Liverpool to Dublin Great on the way out. Moved slowly down the mersey from the Pier head till we got out to sea.

Then the engines started roaring and and we rose up out the water. Skimmed across a calm Irish sea at full speed.

  • This particular Jetfoil was built for the B + I Line in Ireland and launched in 1980 on the Dublin - Liverpool route. It was named the Cu na Mara (Irish for "Hound of the Sea".) It couldn't handle the rough weather in the Irish Sea and was nicknamed the "Tinfoil" and was sold on to Japan in 1986 becoming the Ginga.

  • I rode the sister ship of Ginga between Seattle & Victoria, BC in 1985. It was a great, smooth ride, & we loved it when she went into a bank on final approach to Victoria's Inner Harbour
