Doing a V8 conversion in a miata is very expensive and there is no such a thing as bolt-on. There is lots of work involved. You can turbocharge the miata to 600-700 horsepower and not spend as much. Motor mount kit: $1800-$2000 LS1/LS2 engine: $3000-$5000 (used) Exhaust: $1500 - $2000 Labor: $900-$1800 Total WHP: 300-450 Miata race engine for upto 700 WHP!: $3500 (NEW) BOLT ON OF COURSE Turbo kit: $2000 with stand alone ECU Suspension: $1000-1500 Wheel/Tire: $500-1000 Labor: DIY
Ok. You have me convinced. Lets go with the conversion then:
You are right by the way, my numbers are way off. The conversion kit just went up in price from $2000 to $3800, the engine to $4000, EMS to $1500 and so on.
@0VeilSide0 Yeah, but you would still just have a turbocharged miata :O) Wouldn't sound or feel the same :O) But you are right...it is expensive like any project and does take some time. I had the time of my life with it though!
96- now should be harder to make street legal due too obd2 and how it works with emissions. if you so that you need an obd 2 motor and computer. before 96 you can put any motor you want as long as it passes the sniffer.

So you just beefed up the miata irs? I was wondering retro fitting an 03 cobra irs or a strait axle.

From what I've heard, the NA, or 90-97 years are the easiest having the largest number of convo kits available.

Great video. Iam thinking of building a monster. Are some years of Miatas better than others for this swap?
