  • Great Job on the song, just found it an wish I had a few days ago.

  • @cciemail No, see the entire vid, this is a smart man.

As Garcia said, they loved experimenting with music and that is what The Dead did. And that is you have to like it.. to like it.

  • jlt2185 at least spell grateful dead right and dont complain just skip to where he plays if it bothers you so much

  • you speak some cool shit man

  • Read "The Ambiguity of Ethics", coincidently I am supposed to be writing a paper on it, but of course instead I am trying to watch a little bit of The Dead on the Youtube. But, no,no...I have to be reminded that I should be studying :) Good book though.

  • DORK!!! YOU FAIL!

  • i cant believe it took u 4 min. to get to the song

  • killer...... love your vids. totally keep them coming. your detailed tabs are great as well.

  • awesome man keep it up great lesson love all your vids

  • nice speak in the biginning :)

  • Awesome job! Love your videos. I have been playing for 25 yrs & a Dead fan since 1986! Keep em coming!

  • There are no right or wrong notes, and whether it sounds good is opinion.

  • 1987!!!????

  • omg you sound great more vocals fella

  • great vid you do a great job you have a new fan

  • nice video, you should show more on the rhythm during the melodies as the feel is real important to this song (jerry was good making the train roll)

but for this songs simplicity, if the sung correctly or with heart it does come to life with runs and chord movements. as for musical bullshit, i disagree, music is full of bullshit, it hasn't changed since i was young, just because you can play a ton of notes fast, doesn't make it good, just over complicated.

lot to be said for notes not played.

  • great stuff jdarks! how did you take over the ryan white clip? Click on him and get you. his "no more rabbits in our ears" lyric makes me laugh every time. Love yur website and keep the sweet tabs comin' jdarks!

  • you are an idiot

  • One of my favorite solos of all time. Hard to do on an acoustic, nice video!

  • No Irish, you are. Thats all I am gonna say on it. Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics. Unless you have the balls to meet in person, nobody wins. You should know that. You are retarted arent you?

  • This shows music can't be described by words, you've got to hear it.

  • It's an informational video. Damn, leave it alone..

  • wow thank you soo much. i'm going to try to learn this by august (hopefully, haha) for my parents friends party where everybody brings their guitars and has to play a few songs.. this will be the hit if i can pull it off especailly since i am the youngest and the worst guitar player.

this helps soo much i went to the website too and i'm practicing nonstop instead of studying. this got me playing again after 6 months. thank you

  • i am a huge dead fan darks and i love what your doin.but i'm not a full-blown deadhead i listen to alot of other jam band stuff.i was wondering if you liked any other bands.although the dead are my favorite band

  • Haha rock on man, total deadhead here :D

  • I love this band but they died with jerry

  • hey man cool vid

    again great vid.

  • 7:00

  • inspiring!

  • Yo JDaarks... do you have a video on how to play US Blues???

  • Jdarks For President.... 0r at least senator. Jerry is smilin down

  • When I saw this a few months back I thought when you said you used to be a "bedroom player" you meant that you shifted all your energies from sex to music. Now I feel stupid.

  • haha. that's great

  • J...you are a great player my friend!

  • omg. ty so much! I've been wanting to learn this song so much.

  • I love these vids! I am ripping off the licks as we speak! As a friendly suggestion, could you have one video with intro and lesson, and another vid with just the lesson :)

  • Is this Dennis Hopper?

  • Whats up with the barricade on your doors? Are you afraid somebody is going to come in and kill you?

  • The wind can blow it open. Poor installation.

  • Really!? A lot of people ask you why you like the Dead so much? I highly doubt that. Are you sure thats not just what you want to hear? I think they might actually be saying "shut the fuck up about the fucking Dead all ready."

At 2:22 you say it all man.

    Thanks for you life story.

  • honestly, were you high when you posted that?

  • I would love to see Jerry Garcia and Duane Allman jam. it sucks that will never happen.

  • It did happen. Back when they were both alive.

  • This is something you cant BULLSHIT. lol

i agree with you man music is like an escape for this crazy world we live in!

  • Hey Now,JDarks.Keep on keeping On!How about Monkey And The Engineer,On The Road Again, etc. Those good groove songs. Thanks from a perpetual learner.

  • stfu and play

  • yeah! play already!!

  • You CAN bullshit the music...they call it Modern Jazz.

  • haha good one lol

  • My apologies...That should have read "... they call it American Idol." Modern Jazz is O.K. Play a wrong note once, and it's terrible. Play it twice, and it's Jazz.

  • i love it jdarks... "you cant bullshit music" youre the man

  • "You can't bullshit music."

    --JDarks

  • GO DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • blah blah blah blah blah not even US Blues or Morrison's pathetic I mean poetic ramblings were that long winded...

  • The Doors vs The dead? Guess Jerry wasn't very sexy, and Jim probably a technically better singer but you can not compare. See them as sister bands, both rebellious and poetic and in their time true to themselves.

  • you are, in the most simplified terms, the man.

    thanks for the good vids.

  • lol, the doors better that the dead. Jim Morrison was a drunk that wrote bad poetry, he was a total fake. There music was so superficial, no where near the depth and musical expertice of the dead, listen to some dead shows from 72-74 and try to tell me the doors where better..give me a break.

  • herd to say the doors are better man .... tough call

  • THE DOORS were better

  • how about they where both good

  • Thanks so very, VERY MUCH for doing what you do for us Dreadful Good fans.......been playing for...damn, has it been that long? 46 yrs. You are right, oh so right the note is either right,,,or not. thanks again....love the music keep playing graybeard

  • thank you so much for these videos. the dead is the only reason i picked up the guitar with the motivation to master it. i am noowhere close to mastering it. ive just learned the basic e/a chords no crazy inversions or anything yet. ur vids are helping so so much i cant begin to explain. please kep em comming. you touched me profoundly and i am sure many others. thank you again

  • damn good job on the music and video

  • ambiguity otherwise known as bull shit! thats fucking great!!

  • Yeap! He's right about music...

  • perfect "intro" to this video- definately puts things into their right place..... - thanks

  • what a great description, people ask me y i like the dead so much, im just gona tell them what u said. hope thats cool!! keep em coming!! could u put a hes gone solo up there, that would be great!! thanks jdarks!!

  • If i could reserect anybody it would be jerry garica or jimi

  • Great job.

  • The dead fucking rule. Rip Jerry

  • love your site man it was really a good help and very acurate

  • wow if you think about it touch of grey killed jerry...very indirectly

  • Hey you're ok. Great video.

  • Thanks JDarks... "a rare and diff'rent tune"

  • damn, for just getting serious a few years ago, you're pretty good. like your style man! you seem like good people.

  • JDarks I love you

  • Awsome Dude... Love your site...

  • Seeing you 2 guys with those lovely ladies looks more like a kidnapping than a date..lol So, I watched closely for "call police" scribbled on a napkin, s.o.s. tapped out on the bar or maybe even a smoke signal. alas, there was none? I guess there are benefits to being the "youtube dead fan,tab guru"

  • Awww, you know Darks scores with the ladies!

  • Also, that thing you do w/the guitar at exactly 7:26 can you teach us? i've seen jerry do it a few times also.. sorta a trademark "move"

  • Love you're buddy's idea. "Well you gotta go to JDarks.com"...and you, "That's your idea?", everyone laughs....haha too funny

  • the boys were so much a different band with Brent. there were monster years in the 80's, but also some of their worst low points. even from late '88-90 the band was so much different. and then with Vince and the re-emergance of creative Bobby licks that could actually be heard over the keys ushered in a whole new modern sounding era. its all a matter of opinion, but in my mind its not feasable to compare the 70s to the 80's or the 90's. we all know what they did in the 60's!

  • I was amazed by the earlier versions, 82 & 83... They were faster but brilliantly played. Worth checking out on the archive! Good thoughts on the uncluttered life and purity and assurance that music gives us. A treasure for us all...

  • Weird to think that only five years after the last monster year, '77... they played "Touch of Grey." Seem anachronistic.

  • Well 77 is my favorite year... Yet I find a lot of the early 80's to be exalting and unforgettable. It is different. However, do you consider everything after 77 to be anathema? Touch didn't start as a "sellout" song, only society made it one.

  • Not into Mydland and beyond. I much prefer Feb '79 and before, with emphasis on '72-'74. But "anathema"? No, right now I'm listening to 9/14/90.

  • That's the beauty of it though. You end up listening to a year or even a certain song that you never liked before, but suddenly it has meaning. Grateful Dead music is living music, and it follows you and grows with you and you grow with it. That's really the magic of a band that has been around as long as they have. You never know what you're gonna feel!

  • Thanks for showing that bassy lick. I've tried for years to get that right with various tabs, but didn't learn it properly until tonight.

  • Happy Halloween...what a treat this is, thanks jdarks.
