Where's the original bass player?. She was the lead singer and they sounded a whole lot better. I saw them at the Marquee and other places 'round London, '79-'80 and they were tearing it up. Great shame about Kelly. RIP.
@clairehotty1 are they still ROCKING OUT like OZZY and if they have kids i think they should start a METAL BAND all so KELLY is a true METAL GODDESS for DIO JUST GOT HIS QUEEN for they did not DIE they just went HOME HORNS UP
Jeez talk about hung-up on labels...Who cares...I loved them when they first came out...to use a male term (they had bollocks) as good as any of the male rock bands at the time..Metal!!! Rock!!! who cares..They were excellent is all
This is great performance from agreat band...... who gives a s*** about discussing if Motorhead are 'thrash', Motorhead are simply great don't debate it just listen to it !
Nevermind nowadays girl power, they were the original girl power. How many women take on rock like they did. Saw them on the Hit and Run tour at St Georges Hall Bradford, Spot on
I saw Girlschool open up for Scorpions and Iron Maiden at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, IL, in July 1982. Still one of the BEST concerts I ever attended. A friend of mine who I hadn't yet met drank a the better part of a 5th of Evan Willams, about a 6 pack of beer, and some wine. He puked no less than 7 times and passed out twice, missing Girlschool.
I saw Girlschool at Cardi's rock club in Beaumont, TX in 1983. Front stage for the entire show and I got a kiss from Gil Weston (bass player). I kept asking for one between songs all night and she finally gave me one! I also got a used drumstick from Denise and a Heineken bottle from Gil as well. STill have all the souvenirs.......What a fine night that was! :-)
@ledzep0620 Hello friend, those are great memories, indeed. Glad to see you kept all those mementos from that unforgetable night. Thanks for sharing, bro.
Kelly Johnson had a gold-top Gibson Les Paul both times I saw them at the Keystone Palo Alto. Kim McAuliffe was playing a Gibson SG. Bassist Gil Weston (or was it Enid?) was playing something a little handier than the Fender bass in this video- an Ibanez? It made a mighty, mighty noise, never fear. Keystone PA was my favorite venue in the south-ish Bay, I saw Girlschool, twice, The Ramones and The Buzzcocks, twice, there. Happy, happy, memories :^)
@Scarlet666Woman You're sweet to say so. See who you like when you can, people will say the same for you when *you're* 50 ish! Girlschool are still out there.... Youth, popularity and quality aren't as tightly correlated as some people think! Go see 'em.
ahhh i saw Girlschool in November whilst supporting Motorhead at the Hammersmith :) Girlschool are my personal favourite band cuz they come from South London which is where I live. They're one of best heroes :D
R.I.P. Kelly :( It would've been great to jam alongside you just like Fast Eddie did :)
Thank you Kelly for the inspiration to ROCK! Girlschool blazed a path for the rest of us, THANK YOU!!! I saw the band in 1982 and was blown away!! A fan ever since! Your LPs are a cherished part of my collection! I still wear the t-shirt around every once in a while with pride.
i saw girlschool and the scorpions in 84 in corpus christi,we liked the show so much we drove to san antionio an saw them again , rip richard jones 1962-85 a good friend who was with us gettin fucked up the whole time
@leffe58 DIO GOT HIS QUEEN for she is a METAL GODDESS and they did not DIE they just went HOME HORNS UP to TRUE ART OF REAL MUSIC THAT IS HEAVY METALLLL
Kelly Johnson was the first female guitarist featured on the cover of the American magazine "Guitar Player."(R.I.P.)
I saw/heard them play in San Francisco at "The Stone" and they were Brilliant. Rabbit, the venue's cook, married Gil and he went on tour with the band as their chef! (R.I.P. Rabbit, my brother!)
Lemmy "discovered" GIRLSCHOOL in England and promoted/mentored/encouraged their potential to the fullest. To this very day GIRLSCHOOL are considered one of the best Metal bands of that era.
@IronAussie one of the best metal bands? maybe rock n roll, but they don't sound metal enough to be metal, though i could say hard rock/hair metal at best, and that's even a stretch. i personally do not believe the word metal should be offered to rock n roll bands like black sabbath, led zeppelin, and AC/DC, which are all great bands, but it irritates me when people claim something is metal when its clearly not.
Metal is many things. I prefer to just use the term "heavy" myself. Just heavy. Back in 1982 this was pretty damn metal, for 1982. hahaha. Girlschool, still up and kicking ass. Cheers you lot!
@xeronik69 believe me mate these ladies were metal before most of the boofheads that turned metal into a big weedly-weedly wank even got their hands on the genre. NWOBHM would never have happened without GS, over 4 nights between may7 and 10 1980 GS opened for Black Sabbath at the Hammersmith Odeon. on the atomic scale that makes them pure plutonium. next thing you will be telling me is that you don't believe in Lemmy ??????
@getinthevantim i don't regard Lemmy too highly, but Motorhead is definitely thrash metal, i just don't care for his voice, sounds like a chain smoker with a british accent, which, i think he is from britain, and he smokes, so that makes sense actually, either way, i don't discredit him, but at the same time i don't praise him, i'm "agnostic" pertaining to him, and yes that's a halfassed analogy, forgive me, sorry.
@xeronik69 Thrash metal? and disrespecting Lemmy??? You're a fucking idiot, you should seriously consider killing yourself. WE ARE MOTORHEAD AND WE PLAY ROCK N ROLL
I remember this gig. A few hours before, Gil Weston and Denise Dufort were interviewed on the "Rodney on the ROQ Show" (radio station KROQ-FM). I taped that interview. I should look for that tape and listen to it again. I recall, those two were interesting.
