Ronnie is a flat out amazing and inspiring player. Very few in his class.
This video is OK but the audio is painful to listen to because the bitrate is too low. I'm a live sound engineer so maybe my ears just detect that better. I just bought a Zoom Q3 recorder which has similar quality video as long as the lighting isn't too dark but the audio is pristine studio quality. If you like to record live shows of high caliber players, it's well worth the money.
Great video! But actually, this wasn't originally Freddie King. There's some debate as to who first recorded it, but my personal favorite was Otis Spann. I believe he recorded it back in 1926 or somewhere around there. These guys are doing a great job of it though! :)
Jesus, talk about a window to his soul being left wide open! Unbelievable. Can't remember which album Ronnie talks on saying how he has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome etc..... so why the hell is he punishing himself with 3 hour long sets?! Didn't realise he was doing that. Ronnie, look out for yourself man - we all want to hear you for a good couple of decades yet - don't burn yourself out! Thanks for the upload - awesome post!
Mr. Intensity was present at this show, that's for sure. As is his custom, Ronnie and his band played a single, three hour set of instrumentals with a couple of tunes featuring the opening band singer, Racky Thomas, and his lead guitarist.
Ronnie appeared to suffer from exhaustion right after this tune (it had to be in the 80s in the room); he put down his guitar, left the stag and was escorted downstairs. He reappeared, in a new shirt, a few minutes later to close out this tune.
HOW is this possible??TO Ronnie Earl it is!!

This is so amazing.
Just hits me right in guts, bringing tears to my eyes.
I'd kill to be able to play at 1/100th of his level...
