Not sure if somebody already posted this answer or not, but: the knife *was* indeed clear in the beginning. That was the point of the illusion, to make you believe that the knife sitting on the fork in the next shot was the same see-through one from the beginning, when, in fact, it was actually a different stainless steel one. If the knife is in the middle of the fork, and the fork is symmetrical, the knife simply acts as a mirror. This is also dependent on the shape of the knife-which can distort the image, along with scratches that can point out flaws. It's important not to forget that this trick only really works from certain angles.
