I used to think that leaders were born and not made. Now, I no longer believe this to be the case. Just a few hours ago I met an old friend of mine, who, when a teenager, was a push over and easily led. Nothing to suggest he was capable of being a leader. He is now a lieutenant with the british army and is soon to be promoted to captain. I could not believe his tranformation. he said it was down to determination and the will to learn and self educate.
@johnjoeba Join after your A-levels. That's what I did, you have a good chance just as the University graduates do. It's a great career path with alot too offer but, training is challenging mentally and phyiscally
@MeinDeutsch1 yea i think im just going to join after a-levels then how did you prepare for sandhurst or did you even prepare atall is there anything you did that helped you get into sandhurst im just asking to see if their is any way to increas my chances thanks :D
@johnjoeba Get more than 180 UCAS points and at least two a-levels. Also, research into the training course, Sandhursts history, the regiment you want to join. And most of all your loyalty to this nation! Just prove your worth recruiting. I went into the career office and started my application when I was in my second year but didn't go furthur till I got my results. Better to have a foot in the door. Also, ask the recruiter about "Taster weeks" So, go into your local office ASAP!
Some of the comments here make you sound like -such- ruperts. Where is the professionalism. Further, half of you can't type. Get a grip on those English skills... Sirs.
@decymc That is very true. Been an officier is like a club. You can get in with a degree it's a huge advantage. I don't have a degree, I went in with only A-levels. U can join the Army as an Officier with 2 A-levels thats the minimum requirement. 7 Gcses and points from your skills. It doesn't put you in a bad advantage. I'll be honest it's mainly Men/women from private school backrounds. I attended a state school when I moved here from Germany 9 years ago. I only have 3 A-levels. This help?
whatever you lot do when youre in the service, make sure the program includes hunting for Taliban!! they refuse to listen to reason. theyre arrogance is unbearable. ....not so much the field personell, but the manipulators behind them hiding in bunkers!
I commisioned last year. Sovereign Parade was the proudest moment of my life! I came straight out of college with 3 A-levels went straight into the Army. Never looked back. I'm 22 and I'm a Lieutenant in the Merican Regiment. I love been called "sir" Love waking up to know I'm serving for the Queen and how 30 men's lifes are in my hands on operation.
@MeinDeutsch1 I thinking of trying to join straight as officer as i have just finished my a-levels. However i have been told most applicants are university grads, Does that put me at a dis-advantage as i only have a levels? A Reply would be great!
@decymc Hey . it does depend on the person but yes. For most people it is a disadvantage, If you are a university graduate you have more skills, more opportunities and you will be promoted much quicker. But if you only have a levels and you work hard then am sure you will be fine
On the advice of a Royal Military Police Major who directed me to the website of Julian Lewis MP. I discovered a video and detailed account of the antics of the Lib Dem prospective parliamentary candidate for the new forest a retired Colonel by the name of Terry Scrivens. It is hilarious how can Clegg be happy for such a CLOWN to stand as an MP. According to the Major, Mr Scrivens has become a laughing stock in the army just like when he was a serving apparently.
