  • I think YuYu Hakusho is very popular, even now. I mean, back in the 90s, it was up there with DBZ. Now, lots of people are still talking about the good times that they had with it. Personally, I think YYH isn't underrated since many DBZ fans tend to watch YYH also. What do I think is an underrated manga? Psyren- check it out if you haven't already done so.

  • so the nerd nigga's paying attention to this or what

  • this reminds me that i really need to start reading hunterxhunter

  • Comment removed

  • YYH is better than DBZ in my opinion. But overall it still has many cliches, which is surprising because Togashi's Hunter x Hunter is completely the opposite, no cliches at all. So, in addition to many other reasons, I think that HxH is the real underrated manga/anime here :/

  • @HisokaBungie Like the insanegamefreak said, the only reason why Yu Yu Hakusho feels cliche is because it set the trend. But it did take characterization to a whole new level; it revolutionized the shounen genre in that way. And I think HunterxHunter continued that trend, and I think it's the best ongoing shounen series; although I don't think it's as underrated as Yu Yu Hakusho is.

  • I completely agree with the Sensui argument.

  • Not that I disagree with Berserk getting pushed to the back, but that was definitely seinen, not shounen.

  • shonen-- 20yrs and under boys

Shojo --- 20 yrs and under girls

seinen -- 20 yrs and up men

josei --- 20 yrs and up women

Yu yu, i think, still falls in shonen but it seems you like seinen stuff (gantz, akira, ghost n shell, apple seed) those are going to have more adult themes where as shonen are going to be a tad bit more one dementional.

  • shonin means young boy. Shonin jump is for kids thus one peice, naruto, etc... all the titles you mentioned are not shonin but seinin--adult. american don't really distiguish. Seinin was popular so they brought it over. it got really popular and they decided to grab the kid friendly ones.

  • How come sports shounen from the 80's, specifically Touch and Captain Tsubasa, are always ignored. These series were huge...

  • @michaelluxyz That's a good question. I don't really know why. Maybe because the shounen genre is so dominant we tend to forget about the important manga in other genres. For me personally, I'm not that interested in sports manga so I don't watch them.

  • @uberhikari A lot of sports manga run in shounen magazines and are aimed for that demographic so do you mean shounen fantasy/sci-fi? And Touch/Captain Tsubasa were VERY popular in Japan so I wouldn't say it's cause other genres were so dominant. I think it's just that people outside of Japan assume sports manga is boring or something... but yeah I have no idea why either.

  • Damn man I completely agree with you.

  • The manga was good in my opinion, however there was entirely too much talking in the animie. Take Hiei vs Bui for example, it was mainly talking, with only a few blows thrown, and 2 special techiques being used. Not saying its a bad episode, but if there was far less talking and more action, it'd be 5/5.

  • I appreciate Berserk as i felt it was a major influence on Yagi's series, Claymore. Love that manga to death but i need to give Berserk a chance. People give me your input will i love it more than Claymore, less, the same. Is it good?

  • pssh~ Sensui wouldn't be top 5, he'd be number 1. :) He's my favorite villain of all time.

  • I tried watching the anime a long while back and i just couldn't get into to it. It was SO BORING. it was lifeless, pale, uninteresting. Most of the characters were extremely one dimensional to me. The story arcs were also pretty boring too( the dark tournament arc was such HUGE bore fest. i was hyped for nothing. It's like the original Dragon Ball minus all the charm that made it so very enjoyable to read.

  • @KingofSinnoh If you thought the Dark Tournament Saga was boring, then you're either incapable of being excited or you have very very particular tastes. I think it's the latter, so for you I wouldn't recommend giving this another try if you thought it was so terrible the first time around.

  • @KingofSinnoh you got a weird taste in what you want in anime, lets just leave it at that

  • @lordoYYH255 Not really. Yu Yu Hakusho isn't all that great.

  • @KingofSinnoh naahhh i think what i said is right, don't try to fight it

  • @lordoYYH255 Yu Yu Hakusho is a mediocre, watered-down cartoon with white noise characters, second-to-blah written story arcs and an established universe as tasteless as the metal tang of a silver spoon. at least it's more enjoyably than Bleach. Dragonball owns the shit out of YYH.

also i don't think you should be talking about the awkwardness of my taste when clearly yours is a bad as any big-three fag.

  • @KingofSinnoh yo calm the fuck down, i was just having fun lol, don't really give two shits about what you hate or not. Personally YYH is my favorite manga/anime, i just felt like being a temporary troll for a while. So then if you don't mind my asking what is your favorite manga/anime?

  • @lordo@lordoYYH255

For manga, right now it's between AKIRA and Vagabond. AKIRA is great. One of the funnest, most well paced manga with rich, relatable characters, a good story that will leave with one hell of a roller coaster ride, and, while it's not the most compelling, it leaves very deep philosophical elements that adds well to the story and characters. Vagabond is as good, but it might replace AKIRA as my favorite manga of all time. might.

  • @KingofSinnoh It seems you go for more complex manga, which isn't a bad thing. I actually like how shonen manga story lines are like folktales, with heartfelt stories and morals. Which is why i don't read awesome mangas like Gantz or Akira as much as i should, i enjoy the shonen genre too much. I might have contradicted myself with what i said but ohh well i tried lol

  • @lordoYYH255 To be fair, there are a few shonen mangas out there that i love. One Piece is one of them. This is one manga that took me by surprise, as it's the first one i read around the time i was getting into reading manga( 2 years ago). And of course, I wasn't expecting too much from it considering the god awful reputation that it wasn't even worth reading because of it's frivolous styles or some bullhonkey like that. I also really really love jojo's bizarre adventure.

  • @lordoYYH255 Also don't read Gantz. it's extreme juvenile trash. If you want to read actually good seinen series i recommend: Naussica, vagabond, berserk, Akira.

I would also recommend lone wolf and cub, but I'm still somewhat on the very beginning. read it anyways because it's kicking so much ass right now in my reading.

  • @KingofSinnoh i'll try but i'm really not into the overly serious stories, i look for that in movies and novels, not comic books or mangas

  • Comment removed

  • @lordoYYH255 And Naussica too.

  • @KingofSinnoh Well that is your opinion. I for one actually liked it more than Dragon Ball. Its darker and more exciting to me and has a better plot. At the end of day it has its faults but I still love it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and its just not your type of anime.

  • @HaloandMetroid Well that is your opinion.”

oh hey, another one of those brown shit in a cup. Hi worthless.

“I for one actually liked it more than Dragon Ball.”

so basically you enjoyed a butt-ass boring baseless cartoon with zero to no substance of blood flow in its writing, and a blizzard of colorless characters over dragonball? noice.

  • @HaloandMetroid "Its darker”

    Ahaah, batman in da house.

    “and has a better plot.”

oh fuck , my SPLEEN after reading this.

“At the end of day it has its faults”

It doesn’t even deserve the monstrous holy sacred shounen tree status it keeps getting thrust upon.

  • @HaloandMetroid “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion”

You’ve created a void of tedious commentary so big it sucked your entire credibility as anything if respectable

  • @HaloandMetroid “and its just not your type of anime.”

loll I love it when a bunch of snot nosed tykes who think they know me just suddenly leak about my taste shrugging sort of awkwardly to others “AYE DIS NIGGA RITE DERE JUST DOESN’T HAVE THE TASTE FOR DIS ANIME” to a chorus of giggles and face palm.

  • @Sintron3030 Like I said its my opinion. I'm not arguing with you over my own opinion. Have a good day. :)

  • @Sintron3030 It is interesting you found the need to reply to a teeny tiny paragraph four times and then try to say I lost credibility. So I'm a snot nosed tyke because my opinion is different than yours. Huh. Sounds like you are quite insecure about your own opinions because you found the need to run my down and not realize opinions are subjective and different for each person. Your reply reeks of intolerance and insecurity. We'll talk when you can act your own age.

  • @HaloandMetroid god chirstamighty you are so fucking boring. TUR HUR BECAUSE ITS ALL SUBJECTIVE AND DIFFERENT FOR FOR EACH PERSON HOHOHOHOHHO

go fuck yourself you bitchass bore fest

  • @Sintron3030 One last thing that sucks your credibility is the assumption that I use Ebonics. Well I don't. Don't do that. Its insulting and degrading.

  • @HaloandMetroid "One last thing that sucks your credibility is the assumption that I use Ebonics"

    shut up.

"Don't do that. Its insulting and degrading."

    much like your comments?

  • @HaloandMetroid what the fuck are you even talking about really. no really, WHAT are you babbling out stupid shit that i knew you "use ebomics".? fucking worthless shit.

  • Comment removed

  • @Sintron3030 If you don't know what Ebonics is then disregard that last statement as it won't mean anything to you but Wikipedia might help at this point.

  • @HaloandMetroid so your inability to properly read my post lowered to you subject the whole "wiki" thing. gee kid, do you think maybe i wasn't speaking in terms of what you considered misread? learn to read before typing

  • @HaloandMetroid let me guess, you think this stupidly overrated cartoon/comic is a better than anything mustered from shounen jump.

  • @Sintron3030 Nope. Its just my favorite. I know there is better. I have seen a lot of anime and read a lot of manga in my day. This and the Dragon Ball series are just a few of my favorites. I have a lot of favorites. There are very few anime/manga series that I don't like. Since I'm boring you let me leave you with this. When you resort to personal insults you automatically lose. I didn't label you based off of what you like so what gives you the right to do that to me?

  • Comment removed

  • @Sintron3030 It would have been far simpler to explain why you disagree with me. Instead of calling me names and judging me. Maybe you should try explain why you think the series is bad instead of insulting people and I will take it seriously and realize and understand to you the series just sucked. As your opinion is just as valid as mine. So why is it that you don't like this series?

  • Yeah...DBZ IS A GUDD AZZ ANIME..A damn gudd one, But YuYu Hakusho wuz more down 2 earth and more on a realistic level, like people aint flyin around and shit but a selective few....& they wern't human, lol & da stories behind da characters had real life backgrounds dat u could relate to.....

  • DragonBall was released in 1984

  • can you do your top 20 villains?

and if it wasnt for dbz yyh wouldve been wayyy more popular

  • Great vid, Uberhikari.

I agree that YuYu Hakusho was immensely overshadowed by DBZ.

  • i still think keiko is useless but i love yu yu it's a great series with one of the best character developments in all of anime. great video dude pretty much all of your points were right on this one. i never got into saint saiya (i will eventually) and berserk i just read the first volume this week and it's ok soo far.

  • @TheJZoneproductions I agree, Keiko was FUCKING annoying and pointless to the plot, all she does is get all girly over Yusuke and cry when she sees him get a couple of punches to the stomach and shit, it's like BITCH this is man fight, this is how it goes, this isn't no girly battle it's like wtf.

  • togashi making the villains in yyh have depth and as someone(s) you can relate to or understand is enough to warrant yyh as a classic AND a pioneer of current shounen manga. look at how new shounen series attempt (w/ varying success) to make their villains more humane. clearly, even current shounen mangaka are heavily influenced w/ togashi's works.

  • Great video nigga, you brought good points on Toguro and Shinobu Sensei's character, Yuyuhakusho is WAY better than DBZ, Togashi did a GREAT job on Toguro's character, Genkai's speech to Yusuke was ONE of the deepest shit ever *Toguro asked the commandy to make his body become a demon, Yusuke never try to become something your not cuz not only will it hurt you but it will only hurt the people around you who care about you* SOME DEEP REAL LIFE SHIT, good video man Yuyuhakusho is UNDERRATED.

  • your a genius! I agree with EVERYTHING you said! bravo!

  • i have no words right now this video was fuckin good thanks for the reponse

  • @darius19r No problem man. But of course no response would have been possible without the original video, so thanks for the inspiration.

  • Yu Yu Hakusho is 100 times BETTER than DBZ

  • @Alpha2late17 i agree i think the story in yyh is much better than dbz but that just me

  •

    Underrated

  • Planetes

  • gundam uc

  • Blue Submarine No. 6

  • Honestly....I like yu yu hakusho more than dbz.

  • @PersianVersionSpeaks SAME HERE YUYUHAKUSHO IS BETTER THAN DBZ.

  • @PersianVersionSpeaks Honestly, I think Yu Yu Hakushou is better than dbz, but I like dbz more than I like Yu Yu Hakushou. dbz was a huge part of my childhood in a way that Yu Yu Hakushou was not.

  • the dbztards wont give anything a chance so no matter how good a show is if it came after dbz its no good

  • Berserk isn't Shouen it's Seinen

  • @Mcwhirlpoolinc

    *shonen

  • Have you ever heard of Rokudenashi Blues?

  • @Mcwhirlpoolinc Nope, thanks for mentioning it. It looks like something I might be interested in.

  • Once again your words cut deeper than any blade but in a positive way lol. But I agree that most of the younger generation are geared more towards the newer anime than the classic anime. And sad to say like you I was a big fan of some of these reviewers who had a broader aspect on anime but theyve neglected the shit that got them into anime. And fuck man I can relate to you about the Gundam Series like I dont hear people talk about Mobile Suit Gundam what about Shar's Empire?

  • @EsperReview Thanks man. I think you mean Char's Counterattack, right? Man, that movie was so difficult to find, it took me a couple of years to track down a place where I could download it from, lol. But it was definitely worth it. Char is also a top 5 villain/antagonist.

  • @uberhikari lol yea man thats it damn its been solong since Ive seen that anime I forgot how to spell the name!

  • @uberhikari Yu Yu hakusho came out when the Artifical human arc begin in the Dragon ball manga because the Saiyajin Saga came out 1988 in the Dragon ball manga like you said dbz(the anime) came out 1989.

  • Yu Yu Hakusho should of never ended where it was at because their was still so much that could of happened with it to make it that much more epic.

  • @DWolfLycan I think there's something wrong with Togashi. It seems like he gets burned out faster than other mangakas. And Yu Yu Hakushou was only 19 volumes, so it still had a lot of potential to grow.

  • @uberhikari I think its either Togashi or the people he was around because I could see the saga's becoming real dark and cryptic to the point that the battles would become legendary and we wouldn't have to keep having the same redundancy of tournament style saga's or arcs. The manga had huge potential. That's why it was a buzzkill when it was ended as early as it was. It kind of hurt mentally as well because we knew he had potential to expand and grow to the stature DBZ did.

  • Holy shit my boy I mentioned Saint Seiya but briefly I have to mention it more its a classic!

  • YYH is 1 of the best animes ever made. Kurama is my fav. character in yyh btw!

  • I couldnt watch it cuz I didnt have cable back then LOL

I did finish it last summer, though. It was awesome!!! It is very intricate and emotional, as well as action-packed.

  • I use to see it every once & a while late nite on CN ,i knew it was a great anime but some how ,never got down to actually wanting to watch it but to be fair ,i watched the last few episodes (subbed) ,it definitely has its own subset of fans & can certainly see why =)

  • FUCK YEAH SAINT SEIYA!!

Also another anime no one ever talks about is JoJos Bizzare Adventure which is another classic series.

  • @Zipblockgory I know right Jojo is so underated

  • @UberBlackMan

Oh yeah definitely underrated, Hell if not for Jojo Shaman King would not exist.

  • @Zipblockgory Yeah, I didn't even know what JoJo's Bizarre adventure was until Uberblackman started mentioning it. I want to read it, but it's so long, lol. I don't know when I'll get a chance.

    And of course, SAINT SEIYA!

  • good ish

  • japan sucks
