  • I was searching for "real hero" and this video popped up near the top. Can't even think of the words to put how hardcore this guy was. Reagan was right, if it was a movie script..I wouldn't believe it.

  • I knew Roy and was fortunate enough to talk to him before he passed away. I still have his picture that he signed for me. It was hard going to his funeral services that were held in San Antonio. He was not a big tall man but more short and stocky. But you could feel that his presence was bigger than a lot of men. Even in death.

  • @tejanochris My dad met him a couple times, when he graduated SF medic Q course he had the good fortune to shake Roy's hand.

R.I.P The best damn soldier this planet has ever seen..

  • @tejanochris consider yourself fortunate brother, what an honor.what a great american.my uncle abe met him once and even though he had many medals for valor and was also wounded in country.top benvidez was and will always be our beloved hero.i was a soldier and a marine but the special forces are my boys. take good care of yourself b.

Most of all Roy thank you, for leaving a legacy of honor, bravery, and to never give up, and never stop trying, even when faced with insurmountable odds.

God Bless you MSG Raul (Roy) Perez Benavidez

    (No, I am not related)

  • @spiritedathlete Even if he was 7ft 350 lbs of pure muscle this feat would still be unbelievable. Regan was totally right when he said if it was a movie script you wouldnt believe it. It really is so incredibel. He's a great person as well, a true hero in the real sense of the word. Im looking forward to reading his books

  • @spiritedathlete wtf is that how big he was at the time?!?!

  • He's Mejicano..NO DOUBT!!!!! through and through

  • @sargeinbastrop- Correction! ALL AMERICAN of MEXICAN DESCENT!

  • Outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well Done

  • war sucks.

  • "If water quenches fire, then what quenches fear?...........Love does"

The love this man had for his brothers in arms is amazing.

  • 11 people need a fucking ass whoopin.

  • I kept coming back to this again and again. Then some months later I find myself back again viewing the heroism of this man. Every tough guy, every hip-hop gansta wanna-be, every gang banger, every law-enforcement officer, every war-mongering republican, every red-neck cowboy, every human being .... should see a real MAN in real ACTION and survive what hell threw at him. RIP 'Roy P. Benavidez.'

  • Amazing, amazing human being! One should read the book: 'Medal Of Honor.' This man had suffered 37 wounds, broken jaw, bayonet both arms, scrapnels in back, lung, and heart, intenstines held in his hands, legs hit with bullets, and still through the grace of God managed to save eight men who were near death themselves. Unbelievable but true. May he now rest in peace. Amen.

  • Why is there NO movie about him? We should protest for a BADASS movie about him. Well no action shit but a good ass movie like saving private ryan.

  • Unlike other people, this dude fucked Death in the ass,and threw him out the window.

  • MSGT BENAVIDEZ is from El Campo, Tx. read his book. the three wars of roy p. benavidez

  • 11 people hate american heroes

  • @xnucleardogx If they live in America they should get the hell out!

  • I feel bad now for complaining about petty shit..... this guy went through hell and back and he could have saved himself but he wanted to save the rest too..... i have soo much respect for this guy.... in my mind he is a real hero

  • in Christ

  • makes you wonder what you can do with your life. This sure is an inspiration for me to see this. Wonder why these kinds of men are forgotten by society and not praised and treasured? Remembering MSgt. Benavidez will be a priorty. What an amazing man, wish I could have met him.

  • @5:43 Not to discredit MSgt Benavidez's honor, but it isn't unprecedented that the navy commissioned a ship after an army segeant. USNS Shugart (t-akr 295) and USNS Gordon (t-akr 296) were both named after the mogdishu snipers. Shugart and Gordon were commissioned in 1997 and 1996, respectively; USNS Benavidez (t-akr 306) was commissioned in 2003.

Much respect to MSgts Benavidez and Gordon and SFC Shugart for their service.

  • THAT"S ONE HELL OF A MAN!! TOO MAY HAVE SACRIFICED + GOT TREATED LIKE SHIT,,,,,THAT REALLY PISSES ME OFF!!!

  • Thanks much for posting, not only for the info on Roy, but to confirm to me some people really did care about us.

  • Good on you for making this video. We have forgotten what this country was made of and is made of. You just made 1,000,823 people remember.

  • I keep coming back to this over and over and over again.

Then after some months I find myself coming back again.

Thank you Michael for this grand posting of a grand soul.

  • This man deserves a fricking movie! Who's gonna contact Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg?

  • @necramoniumdotc0m No they'll just turn it into some liberal commentary on American war machine. Give it to someone with balls enough to carry this guys story the right way.

  • @bozez1 Clint Eastwood?

  • @necramoniumdotc0m I'll watch it.

  • Nice .... Roy an SF Soldier who earned a Green Beret would have been proud.

I saw mark smith - in one of the pics.. Zippo Smiths NVA Hunting Club RVN - 1966 to 1973 C Co. 1/506th BN 101 ABN 03/70 to 10/70 WIA / POW 1972 / 1973. Mark also had an experience at THE BATTLE OF LOC NINH later on..4 - 7 APRIL 1972 wherein Mark earned the DSC.

  • Wow, I cant belive I am 29 years old and this is the first I have ever heard of his story.

We need so many men of his caliber today, sadly there are few to be found.

Great video, I know because of it I will always remember this brave soldier.

  • I'm proud to say that he was a friend of mine and we miss him in El Campo, TX.

Thank you for the tribute to Roy.

  • Truly an American Hero!

  • Thank you for sharing this story of courage and heroism.

  • whoever dislike this video is guilty of stupidity. TRUTH

  • I read the book some years ago. What a disgrace he had to fight so long and hard for his due. Rest in Peace, Master Sergeant. Lest We Forget.

  • This is the most amazing thing I have ever seen on youtube..truly wonderful.Thank you for sharing this info..I would have never know if not for this..and thank you Roy,you are what I will always aspire to be..a Real Man.

  • Who the hell disliked this video? 11 losers.

  • Incredible video. It's amazing what you can do if you are determined enough. God Bless our troops!

  • I meet MSG. Benavidez a few years before he passed at our Special Forces Reunion. If you think you live with pain think of the injuries this man suffered but yet found the strength to go to schools, military units etc and speak. Few know that his MOH was awarded during his second tour, in his first tour he broke his back and though himself to walk again, then joined the SF. I have never met more of a man.

  • For michael19591123, thanks for creating this video. Very fitting top honor such a man, Roy P. Benavidez.

If possible, please correct the spelling of his name. Some times is written "BENEVIDEZ". The correct Spelling is "BENAVIDEZ"

    Thank you.

  • True Heroism knows no race, no creed, does not know how wealthy the hero is, a hero is just that, a person that does great things for thier comrades against all odds.

  • hate

  • Damn i had reagan , but if hes the only guy at the top who honoured this guy ,i,ll cut him some slack , why has,nt hollywood picked up on this guy ,?? oh i forgot hes mexican , RIP Mr B.

  • @SIRSMITH08

    That should be MSG B.

  • @hjfusmc Does MSG mean master sgt ? what does the G mean ?

  • A true warrior

  • Another of our Great American Hero's is in pain no more. Our present admin should take notes. You can't hold America hostage very long. America will prevail...God Bless America.

  • What a warrior !!!!!!!!! If only I was 10% of the man he was Id be happy .

  • Thank you for tellng this compellng story of one of the brave men of Viet Nam

  • The honor and courage of this man are awe inspiring. If anyone ever needs a proper example to go with the word "hero", it is right here.

  • whoever dislikes this aren't human

  • What an amazing tribute to Roy and his family...thank you for posting this Michael...it completely 'blew me away' when I watched it just a few minutes ago. Andy & Lucy in 'Historic' Gettysburg, PA, USA!

  • Hated that War, Loved these Men . . . A better example of Warrior Spirit would be hard to find.

    I am humbled

  • Its very sad that after 13 years he finally received the Medal Of Honor. You know the Irony of it all is, that he did not ask for it. This was a man's man and someone who did what he knew was right. He saved many men and because of him this part of the world is a better place. We can say what we want and do what in our opinion we feel because of men like him fighting for the cause. God Bless Benavidez!!!!!!

  • Raised as a military brat, Viet Nam was a sacred time for my family. My brother-in-law, Alfonso Palafox and my step-father Gregorio Mireles, were both Artillary and did make it home safely. A hero like Roy was a true miracle and blessed a lot of lives. Bunny Estes-Carter

  • this is pretty much the most amazing thing someone could ever do

  • This was amazing. I have it in my favorites to return to it regularly, and every time I am struck dumb, but I need to speak and say "Thank you." Thank you for putting it together. Thank you Roy Benavidez. Thank you to all who serve.

    --Beth

  • @spiritedathlete MSG Benavidez is an amazing person obviously and I respect all of our military more than I think most people do. Which is why when I see a phony trying to get credit and appreciation for things he has not seen, done or experienced - they are purely liars, and when it comes to something like the military... the posers are such asses.

  • @HughJassization WOW!!!! Your a 20 year old punk what the hell would you know about Group? Let me tell you NOTHING!!!!!!! Go back to playing Medal of Honor. Are you even in the military or served in it? If not then your opinion means dick. To say watching a video for some motivation is wrong is just plain dumb on your part, He was a great man and still is did you not read the last part of the video? it is said that US Special Forces have a phrase that's spoken over a radio when a firefight is

  • @HughJassization going badly or COURAGE needs to be summoned. Maybe I needed alittle help and looked to the MSG for it

Have a good day Now go beat your boots

  • WOW...a true hero !!! Our thoughts and prayers are with this man and his family...we THANK YOU for your service....God Bless men like him....

  • We'll be doing a Special tonight on Roy Benavidez 11PM EST, Hope you can join us... search Blog talk radio for United4Freedom to listen.

  • Bravo Zulu, Roy. You were an example of what I love about this country. I'm honored that you served for me and mine.

    Tango Mike Mike.

  • And just one more thing Michael I noticed that there's alot of Jack asses that posted on here you might want to think about taking out the trash.

  • I am in Special Forces and men still talk about MSG Benavidez to this day he was an inspiration then and he's still one today. Why do you think I watched this video? Because right now as I type this comment I'm standing in the middle of Afganistan and I needed some Inspiration to keep me going for the next 5 months. Thanks Master Sergeant for all you did then and for all you are still doing for the new generation of Warriors.

    TANGO MIKE MIKE

  • @desertwarrior20

TANGO MIKE MIKE, my fellow brother in arms.

  • @desertwarrior20 Keep up the good work, desertwarrior! We appreciate what you're doing and will be praying for you.

  • @desertwarrior20 If you truly are serving then thank you, and disregard the rest of the comment.

-HOWEVER... I'm sure you are lying. A special forces member would not comment on a youtube video saying "I am in Special Forces." You sound like somebody who wants attention and respect for something he doesn't deserve. Let alone one in Afghanistan.

I mean come on, a green beret, recon marine, SEAL, etc. Why would they post on a youtube video exclaiming they a member of the

  • @desertwarrior20 most elite fighting force, and saying "oh yeah... I'm in the middle of Afghanistan right now." Someone as mentally and physically hardened enough to become a special forces operator... I can't see them being the type of person to write like you just did. Someone like them would not watch a youtube tribute for inspiration.

I hate mother fucking posers attempting to gain respect when its the men who really do it and never get thanked.

  • @desertwarrior20 Thank You for your service.......My son, Joshua, was an 18-D with ''C''Co. 3rdBn 5th SFG with two tours in Iraq...I had the exquisite privilege on 06 Mar 08 to be in attendance at Seay Field in Ft Bragg to watch Josh receive and don his green beret. His grandfather, who will turn 96 this October, fought in the ETO during WWII...My dad served in the USMC during Korea and I served in the Corps form June '75 through June '79...You guys are our best and brightest ... Semper Fidelis

  • @desertwarrior20 god be with you soldier

  • @gigololounging and yet you probably have never served in the armed forces. you dont know what it is, to risk your life for your friends. your a coward, your the kind of person that would your back on your family and friends. you dont know what it is to serve along other men. fuck the politics, country, profits ect... all that shit does not matter. do you think in the middle of the fire fight they where thinking about politics or banks making profits???? fuck no they where fighting to stay alive

  • this man died when i was 2 years old he was my dads uncle i have a pic of him holding me when i was 1 year old i never met him but he made the benavidez name better for us all his little girl or my great cousin is happy i met her back in 2006 and i enjoy what my great uncle did for the us i am kenneth pierce beanvidez

  • I met Mr. Benevidez many yrs ago. He and my Uncle were friends for many yrs. It was an HONOR to meet a man who did so much for this Country and asked for nothing back in return.

He was well respected and loved by all who knew him.

  • Espero conocerlo un dia alla en el cielo ... que dios lo bendiga.

  • God bless you Roy Benavidez..... An extraordinary man.

Michael, thanks for sharing this video.

  • excellent

  • "It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived."

    - General George S. Patton, Jr

  • @gwt3200 Easy for patton to say. the guy was born a soldier without empathy. he was a political Army General.

  • Roy Benevidez American Hero. Wish I could have met you Sgt. Benevidez there are no more heroes like you.

  • @george85v

Not true, by a long shot.

Our Armed forces Still produce young men of this caliber. To think or state otherwise is dishonorable

  • True American Hero, good job in putting this together...Thank you...Let it be known...I know he asked God for help.

  • All Gave Some. Some Gave All.

    R.I.P Roy

  • Holy God, I am shaken by just reading his actions of indescribable heroism. GOD BLESS HIM!

  • Thank you Roy. RIP

  • What an amazing man! I'm thankful for the beneficial spirit he exhibited toward his fellow soldiers. He truly gave his "life" for others, as he continued to encourage others after the war. I would have been proud to call him my brother.

  • Thank you MSG Benavidez. You are an example of how all American Servicemen should carry themselves.

  • These are the kind of people about which movies should be made!!!!!

  • One of the toughest men who ever walked on this planet.

  • This man is a Real Hero! I pray that his back Pay for the MOH was granted to him. He is the 'Audy Murphy' of Viet Nam! God Bless him and All of our men and Women Servicemen everywhere. ~Rick Magee,FL

  • This man is a Real Hero! I pray that his back Pay for the MOH was granted to him. He is the 'Audy Murphy' of Viet Nam! ~Rick Magee,FL

  • What an amazing man & story.... To get up time & again, shot, stabbed, ripped up by shrapnel and more... this heroic man not only rose up time & again to save HIMSELF, but ALL HIS FELLOW WOUNDED! And he didn't stop till they were ALL in not "just" the 1st Chopper (that went down - RIP heroic pilot #1) BUT reloaded all his fellow wounded in a 2ND Chopper! watch this video.... try to swallow any bitter stereotypical racial crap you've been fed growing up.... learn about a true War Hero!

  • What an amazing man & story.... To get up time & again, shot, stabbed, ripped up by shrapnel and more... this heroic man not only rose up time & again to save HIMSELF, but ALL HIS FELLOW WOUNDED! • There are heroes ,and then there are legends Master Sergeant Roy P. Benavidez is both. His uncommon courage ans supreme valor is very much deserving of a movie tribute: every American should know this man by name, service to country and his supernatural heroism. I salute you with both hands!

  • this just proves that even though some may think mexicans r stupid and uneducated think about those like Roy because if they're saving someone that u urself would not do that i think we know who's the dumb ones.

  • I don't have any words. I just cry.

  • WOW! Roy P. Benavidez was an amazing man & a TRUE HERO! What an incredibly brave man! Thank you for sharing this story with the world! RIP, ROY!!!

  • amazing, one of Americas greatest warriors.

  • This is what I'm talking about!!! Where can we find men like Roy Benavidez today?!

  • its not about why we fought that or any war, its about the MEN that stood up to defend the country they believed in.

  • This kind of heroism it’s beyond nationality, race, beliefs, religion, etc. A true hero. No words for me to express my admiration and respect to this brave man.

  • Excellent video, thanks for putting it together. I had the pleasure of meeting Roy on several occasions, while heading up a not for profit military group in the 80's and 90's. Roy was our Guest of Honor at one of our annual scholarship functions. Roy spent many years traveling, inspiring youth to stay in school and get an education. He gave 100% to his country, community, friends and family. Roy was the real "Rambo"./ Adam Mendez, Jr; Major, U.S. Army Reserve (Ret)

  • touchy history rip sgt benavidez

  • men like this are the reason i joined the navy, and i will always look up to them

  • my uncle met the sarg,he too was in country.he had a great deal of respect for him and so do i.

  • I had the privilege of meeting Sgt Benevidez at a meet of Vietnam Veterans of America. He, like the others like him, are the most humble people I've ever met. He only spoke about what the other guys did. He is certainly worthy in my eyes. This from a sailor, US Navy.

  • when people go to war you just hope there is a soldier like Roy Benavidez on your side and if you dont think you have the courage to do what he has done just think that another is thinking the same thing and you become that person and not pass it off to someone else. someones brother future father, grandfather etc could be the people you sav. there needs to be a movie made about this man.

  • @GooberBoy06 fuckin prick your a real low class son of a bitch you know that?

  • I had the honor of meeting MSG Benavides. He was a true hero and a gentleman. May God bless you, Roy.

What a wonderful and moving video tribute. Thank you for doing this.

  • @MrHarry46 You really are an asshole to say that on this video, you know that??

  • @MrHarry46 put your head back into the sand, ass!
