  • My grandma loved gardening. At her funeral the pastor mentioned all the sorts of life she cared for with her hands, the gardening, holding us as infants etc And this was sung, no one in my family knew they chose this song, it was one of the most touching moments of my life when it began, it fit her so well. This singer even sounds close to the singer we had. Thanks for the upload!

  • My grandparents died 13 days apart December 2007. It was a huge loss for me. I have struggled with their deaths and December is always the hardest. One day I was looking through this hymnal book of my grandmothers and came across this song. I feel it was a message from my grandmother. I had never heard this song before but when I read it, it was like my grandmother was telling me she was in the garden with Jesus and that she was very happy. I'm glad to find it and finally put a tune with it.

  • @bigredsoprano. Thanks for revealing the writer of this lovely, encouraging and comforting song. I have been searching for the writer for acknowledgement before I sing it as a special number in any gathering I attend.

Thanks C. Austin Miles, you are already blessed in His presence now and forever.

  • This son is absolutely beautiful. I'm considering singing this for a solo in my church. It was sung at my great great great grandmother's funeral: it was her favorite.

  • this was sang at my great-grandmothers funeral two weeks ago. it brought tears to everyones eyes, and everyone ended up singing along. beautiful :')

  • Sizzle and drive of electronic contemporary Christian music? God- fuck you, douche.

  • @brandon10175 Christina5Archer is right. This hymn or gospel song, whatever, is the epitome of the reasons why religion is said to be mental illness. It may be about Mary Magdalene, but it never says so. The writer seems to have had J.C. as his imaginary playmate and imaginary lover, and those who sing it seem likewise..

  • This hymn was sung at my grandparents funerals...It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. I always think of them when I hear it. :'(.

  • @AndyCapp306 Thanks for your comment. Your thoughts are shared by many including myself. I sang it at my dad's funeral. He loved planting in the earth and seeing it grow.

  • @AndyCapp306

My family sang this at my great aunts funeral. It also reminds me of her everytime i hear it.

  • @AndyCapp306 same here.. this was played at my Grandma's funeral

  • this song was played at my grandmothers funeral 5 years ago, It still brings tears to my eyes

  • very niceGod bless you!!!!!!

  • Have not heard this in perhaps 40 yrs. We used to sing these old classics when growing up. Yesterday the Lord called me to hike with Him on a mountain and while walking the words to this hymn were coming to me. And He was showing me that we are not to focus on the "obstacles" along our path but focus on REPRODUCING HIS LIFE while it is our time on this earth.

Thank you for sharing this and that is a great heritage to have it be your great-grandfather.

  • Great old music. Much better than the junk put out today by so called Christian musicians

  • This is one of the worst hymns created.

  • @Christina5Archer no the way he sings it is horrible

  • Thanks for sharing :) I rated it 5 stars

  • This favorite has been attracting a number of views that has really surprised me. Thanks for your rating. charlie

  • I love this song. Thank you and God bless you. We Christians have joys the world can never know.

  • my Grandma's favorite song, thank you.

  • I appreciate this so much. Thank you Olga. charlie

  • My favorite! ...The Lord gave you a beautiful blessing in your voice!

    Thanks!

    Olga

  • This song is truly transcendent. You do a great job singing it also. Thanks!

  • Written by my great-grandfather in 1914, C. Austin Miles. This piece made a lot of appearances in movies from the 50s 60s and even 80s. It was even, laughably, in an episode of "Little House" once. TOO funny...... I liked it best in "Spencer's Mountain" with Maureen O'Hara singing it.

And it isn't a HYMN, it's a Gospel song. There is a difference...

I'm a soprano, but I've never sung this except at a funeral. Is is rather strange to sing something a relative wrote.

  • Dear Red

Thanks for sharing this amazing bit of information. This has been a significant and comforting 'gospel song' that has figured in my family testimony and many thousands of others. It just so perfectly describes the peace and comfort of Jesus' presence (that he is more than willing to bring to any who wish for this side by side fellowship. cc

  • This is one of my favorite hymns. Amazing to "meet" a descendant of its actual writer. Did he write the words or lyrics or both? Thanks.

  • @bigredsoprano Did your gr grandfather really write this? How special. When i was a child in the Bronx -early '50's, my mother would sing this around the house.

A few minutes ago, I was washing dishes at the kitchen sink, and found myself singing this hymn. I came in to YT to find it.

It represents a different Christianity than we have today.

Pre 1970,- Christianity was of a loving gentle Jesus. who paid for our sins.

Today, our Christianity is one of Rapture and Ant-Christ, and Tribulation.

  • I am reminded of Jesus' remarks to the Samaritan woman at the well; "- - you worship that which you do not know - - we KNOW what we worship!" See video made called "Why We Worship"

  • Don't get me started on contemporary Christian music.!! It is more about over-rehearsal and performance than 'worship.' It about audience stroking, emotional responses, and selling product. Some churches rehearse their worship bands for months before performance. help them Lord!

  • Charlie when I first got born again I was so thankful for the whole new world of Jesus! I was so overjoyed and then to sit back and hear the lyrics behind these songs and be discerning about them I to this day am really bothered by a lot of the lyrics you hear, even in good bible believing churches, they are just abhorrant, I am reminded of one that goes "I am here to buy gold refined in the fire, naked and poor wretched and blind I come" well that is Jesus rebuke to people, not a praise song!

  • I just can't relate of the newer music, but these old tunes give me such peace and tranquility. Your recording sounds so haunting, like it's coming from beyond. I appreciate the music in the black church I attend, but will never forget my mother singing this in the same style as you. Beautiful! 5 stars for the depth of feeling!

  • and He walks with me and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own, and the joy we share as we tarry there.... so what about the sizzle of today CCM ... I personally think the older is better (gasps not in regards to wineskins mind you!) just the older worship music has so much more meaning behind it, the words are so much more meaningful and powerful. God bless and thank you for this, this song is lovely :-)

  • this was my grandmas favorite song, we sang it as she took her last breath, r.i.p. grandma, we love and miss u!!!!

  • How beautiful! I sang one of my own hymns to my mom right before she passed, and to a friend as he slipped away too. If only I could sing this to mom right now, I would! She sang it for us and I'll never forget the depth of emotion in her singing. See my version too if you like!

  • Very comforting

  • No hinário de música da Congregação Cristã no Brasil é o 127

  • Cornet Charlie - I LOVE the introduction you wrote for this. As I see it, lacking the sizzle and electronics make them simple and humble - much like our Lord and Savior. He could have come as the KING he was - LORD OF LORDS, yet came as a humble child and lived as a humble human and will only come in His full glory @ the second coming. You get it - and your coment was PERFECT. Thanks for posting - great singing too!

  • Beautiful video! Great voice.

  • Awesome : D love the song 2
