ya i grew up with my dad playing Alabama music my entire life. great voices, great music, great lyrics. They, along with a few others, are the epitome of country music!
Billboard's #55 song of '82. Alabama hit #1 country, #5 AC, #15 pop, in Billboard. Cryin' shame that Barbara's producer wouldn't let 'em do it live, right, gang? God bless ya, Alabama cousins!
Wish i could hit the re-do button and go back to 1981......Tracey R, i would wrap my lovin' arms around you, close my eyes and never let you go !!!!.....Miss you
This is one fine tune, boys. I heard this back in '81 when I was in love for the very 1st time - and nothing else could capture that moment in my life better than this song. I will ALWAYS love you, Dusty .. no one could ever take your place.
I listen to all music, well MOST music, anyway, If it's country, I don't make it past the mid-lat 90's, It's just turned to pop. :( They need to sit these young'ins down and let them soak up the old stuff...or just play the old stuff!
@wtmc1 I literally meet ''ALABAMA'' twice a year. Randy Owen is TRULY a nice man with a big heart, and so is Teddy Gentry. I don't like Jeff Cook though.
Brings back memories... flyin down dirt roads to yer favorite fishin' hole with the radio blastin out to the REAL country, like this. Aint nuthin' like it

@bethbarnett1 agreed. Every Alabama song was uplifting and full of family values. They didn't sing about crying in my beer cuz my baby done left me! They're a rare find. Simply the best ever.
Randy makes me randy baby!!!!!! True music and true sex appeal at its finest!!!!!!!!!!What happend to bands like this?Where did they go? Everything sounds the same today.I'm over it, I will always be a classic country girl.

A lot of bass players move around like that. Its called feeling the music...lol plus he knows he is on his way to make millions of dollars....Great group, im from Alabama
I have very many fond memories of this song! It was popular when I lived in Miami as a kid~ 8 yrs old, in 3rd grade~ 1981~ I heard this song EVERY morning before I went to school! Such awesome memories!!!!
All things considered, this is an extremely well-written song. The lead singer deftly shades the internal rhyme scheme of the melody as if by instinct.
@MusicDude86 Totally agree with your comment. Enjoyed listening to Crystal Gayle, Alabama, Eddie Rabbitt, Don Williams in the late 70s and early 1980s. Still enjoy Willie. New country just is MISSING something...just don't know. Crystal Gayle's greatest hits is GOLD ! MPM
Total lip synch...that is spot on the studio version. The line that ends ".........like a thousand times before" - .the "before" here has the identical studio echo in Randy's voice as in the recording.

this is shit. Not Alabama, i love them but shows like this where they make the people lip synch. Alabama is incredible live, and they should have been able to play this live. Fuck Barbara Mandrell she is a whore anyway
When I first heard the first couple of songs they released, I said these guys are the Beatles of country music. and the last I knew they are the most sccessful country band in history. Say what you like -they smile all the way to the bank. There is no electoral vote or opinin the whole world decides if they becomes famous.Historicly every artist or musician is influenced by someone else -tell me who wasn't?
Number One. I am the greatest lover of all time I taste and hold better than any guy or girl. My stuff should be illegal and legal...I do it all. I tell her put that filthy smell in my face because it stinks and thats how Dad loves that hairy mess.
Alabama is almost like Southern Rock. They owe a LOT to bands like Blackfoot and Skynyrd and the Allmans. Alabama takes the sounds of those groups and trims it down and softens it up and adds the vocal harmonies. It's pretty sophisticated, if you think about it. No wonder they dominated the '80s.
Alabama rules. You are my heart. My Dixie Land heart. I love all of you.

People do not realize what it takes to put everything together for a live performance, especially is you have a lot of bands perform in one setting.
Like the Award shows, do you think that they perform all LIVE? No!
Maybe the vocals Live, but not the instruments. And sometimes, they do not sing live.

Garth Brooks too. He was the lead country singer of the past twenty years or so.

This band pretty much defines the '80s. Them and all the Van Halen ripoff bands. Sort of like Alanis Morrisette or Kurt Cobain define the '90s.
