@Spillberg no disrespect but shutup... Im from Detroit. He changed his name bc it had to many conflicting issues with the JD from ATL. As he grew in music his sound and technique grew which is why his drums changed dramatically into something more realistic or non quant (korg beat machine). Furthermore alot of his early beats were those 5 mins beats we hear about. Only a few layers. When he got holder he added more layers and better drums. Thats the diff you are describing

I agree, with the difference in production sounds, there are some early traces of Dilla sounds in Busta Rhymes songs in particular, I'd count 'Genesis' as a transitional beat for Jay Dee, 'Live it up' and 'Still Shining' (Believe it or not), also on 'Go Ladies'. I'm a bigger fan of Jay Dee than Dilla but I can't knock his latter music at all.
