All you people talking shite about Coventry should learn a thing or two about Coventry, first.
You're referring to this video, which if you were anyone with half a brain would know that it was filmed in London, not Coventry. So you sir, can fuck right off.
Yeah Coventry has it's downsides, but that's caused by this pathetic city council that we have. If we had a council that wasn't full of pen-pushing snobs, we'd be twice the city that most cities are today.
@UrMumLovesElectro - it was the flattening of Coventry that made it a concrete jungle. Before WW2 Coventry was one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Europe so flattening it was actually a huge loss to England's cultural landscape. Also as Woody has already noted, it is not Coventry in the video but the City of London
Timeless...I was 11 when this came out, the 1st record I ever bought. The early 80s were a great time for british music. I think they must rival the 60s for creativity....in my opinion. Happy memories. Thanks for posting.
Remember indescimate man birth leads to the birth of emanicaption from birth. as in a new life. so the forms the old dead way gave birth too must die but not at the hands of the new way because that would be to admit their supperiouruty.
download this song of itunes this week.. i joined a facebook page to get this song to number one... from the 25th sept 2010... hopefully next week this CLASSIC song will make a return to the charts.. long live SKA
I find it sad how skinhead is so often associated with racism nowadays. I dont blame the people that think this however, as newspapers are a lot to blame in this. They see some skinheads being recruited into the right wing movements of the 70's and they run with it. Other racist movements adopted the skinhead look simply for the 'hard-man' aspect of it.
@imthesean True skinhead music and culture is inspired by reggae and other 'black' music of the time. When you listen to this music there is no hatred. I could go on to say more, but the point i am trying to make is there is a colossal difference between skinheads, and racists that dress like skinheads.
Nothing like ska thats for sure especially The Specials....check out these guys THE DUALERS (yep at our channel) moving from busking to major performances with connections with the likes of the Specials =)
@georgewburton Its a Vauxhall PA Cresta or Velox, a beautiful but very rare car due to the fact that if you left one out in the rain overnight you'd come back in the morning to a pile of rust...........
My Dad loved this song..whether for the melody or the message I'm not sure, but I loved it as well, at the time for both. Well, the towns I've seen in Scotland haven't recovered from the last time Maggies mad men were in, but you know what, they've no chance of recovering now with Demented David in power now!
I'm only 15, but MAJOR love to the specials/madness/the jam!! I'm not saying music was better back in this time, but itsdefinitely as good! different :) this toooooooooooown!
music like this...cannot be replicated; it was the spirit and hard times that created such a unique and special sound that we'll never capture again. it's sad that songs like this won't ever make it to radio again with so much superficial eye candy floating around to block out the good stuff...suppose it works out though, I'd rather dig for the good stuff than have it readily available on the radio.
Classic. This song was a great reflection of Margret Thatchers UK. I remember the huge movement to break the unions. I remember queing for bread on days when we were allowed to buy it. I remember the nation slowed to the expectations of the Londons Business disrict. The youth and mix of music cultures were the only thing giving energy, giving hope.

Haha I love the vocal breakdown at 2:42 you'd never hear something like that in anything on the radio these days. No station around here anyways. I say its about time artist take music back from whoever the hell it is in control that thinks they know what people want to listen to. Honestly I dont think anyone really knows, but thats what it takes to be a real musician. You have to take the risk.
I went down the KitKat route with my my cup of tea this evening. I believe it was the right choice. But I like to think that I'm man enough to stand corrected if anyone can point out a superior, but perhaps left-field, alternative.
This song/video reminds me of living in Holland in 1981. Such an awesome time for music. The Police, Madness, Pat Benatar, Prince, Bruce, the Specials....to many to list.
@yaronam / in the old days when i first heard that break i thought NO! they ruined a good dark punkish tune but now ive see the meaning / we all dream of the good old days eventually
