  • Your fuckin dumb bud.. you definely don't know what the hell yor talkin about. Delete this garbage asshole

  • To the author of the video, the float SHOULD sit down a little bit and not level. I see how you could think that as most carbs from other manufacturers are like that. This is not the case with tecumseh however. Why i have no clue, strange indeed though.

  • @hondarocks61 ......To low and you risk fuel starvation. Level is where it should sit. Tecumseh uses several models of float carbs with technical specs from 4/64" to 9/64" float height measurements depending on the model.

  • @sixtyfiveford, thanks for your insight on this, I had a feeling you were gonna say that. They look like more trouble than their worth. Much appreciated.

  • Do you ever remove the welch plugs from the carb and clean inside? I've heard conflicting views on removing them...

  • @charger19691 .... I have removed 100s and have yet to find one that needed to be removed. So the majority of the time I dont. I have a 100% rebuild rate without removing the welch plugs in 100s of carbs and I have destroyed 2 carbs by removing welch plugs that didn't need to be removed in the first place. You risk permanently damaging the carb and making it junk. People remove them because they come in the full kit.

  • Hey i have a Tecumseh Power Sport 6.5 HP engine on my gocart and when i crank it up it goes by itself without me pressing the gas do i need a new carb are is it something else

  • @MrTaytay1509 ....... The throttle could be stuck open? The gas cable could be kinked?

  • I cleaned the carburetor as directed and the mower runs but I still get gas running out through the carburetor at the air filter end. what did i do wrong?

  • @2denglands Your needle/seat are leaking. This could be due to: hardened seat, debris in seat, or hole in float.

  • so how would i fixx dat?

  • i have a question? when i put gas in my tank it just comes straight the hole why is dat??

  • @TaylorBoI3000...Dat would be a leaking needle/seat.

  • Great video. Thanks! I cleaned my carb and replaced the primer button. Same problem as when I started. Cranks but goes dead. I noticed if I primed the mower it would continue to run. Then I noticed if I just held the button in it would run just fine.

The button does not seem to be pumping very well and it does not seem to be sealing very well with the retainer ring. I have double checked with the dealer and confirmed that this is the correct part. Am I on the right track or look further

  • @stonewalldave ........ The primer button only pushes air. It sounds like your main jet is clogged.

  • What causes the governor to fluctuate at all speeds when the engine is warm?

  • @wsloan32461 ...... when the engine hunting it is usually caused by partially clogged idle jet.

  • I have just viewed your video Parts 1 and 2, and I must say it is very insightful. After taking off the carb and cleaning it for the third time now, I have completed all the steps you showed on the video. I even adjusted the pad to the float till it was level. The float is ok, no fuel in it. I'm baffeled at why fuel continues to constently flow out of tube to air cleaner. Can my problem be in the primer pump assembly or needle valve? Thanks in advance......

  • @wsloan32461 Your needle seat is leaking(dried out seat).

  • @sixtyfiveford YOU Sir were spot on! I purchased a carb kit and replaced the items in the kit and it runs great!!! The problem was there was NO seat for the needle valve to seal against when the float bowl was full of fuel. Not sure what happened to it. Many THANKS!!!

  • He figured out how to unclog it. Thank you so much for your help! It's running well, he says!

  • @SorceressKana ........... GREAT

  • Would these instructions apply to a TNT100-10083E engine?

  • @ClassicTVMan1981X .......Yes, there are very minor differences with your carb but this video will apply.

  • @sixtyfiveford

The original carb part # for said engine is part #632050A but the current replacement is #632795A.

  • He has the needle/seat and float problem fixed, but now the engine won't suck the gas through the carburetor. He says that he cleaned it as you have done in this video. When he primes it, it runs.......then shuts off. He asks what the problem is now. What should he do this time? Thank you for the previous times.

  • @SorceressKana.........The main jet/bowl nut is clogged.

  • Comment removed

  • Hello! This is me again. The one with the gas pouring out of the overflow hole. He replaced both the needle AND the float, but yet it is still happening. What should he do about this? There is no spring at all on the engine.

  • @SorceressKana Did he replace the needle SEAT?

  • Comment removed

  • @sixtyfiveford HANG ON. I think he just realized his mistake. He's checking now.

  • On the carburetor, when my dad turns the gas on, gas pours out of the overflow hole. He wants me to ask if you know what causes it. What should he do?

  • @SorceressKana ............The Float needle/seat is dirty and needs to be replaced or the float has a hole in it and it isn't floating.

  • @sixtyfiveford Thank you! He's checking it now :D

  • Great video, my mower still wont stay running. If I pump the primer 10 times it will run for about 5 seconds then dies. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • @pal51961 ........ Your main jet is still dirty/clogged.

  • @sixtyfiveford I sprayed the main jet out completely twice, it does not have any dirt or clogs.

  • @pal51961 OK, There is a little notch or hole in the aluminum carb body that allows gas to flow to the main jet. It is right at the very bottom of the Venturi area where the main jet screws into. Also make sure the Venturi tube leading up into the throat of the carb is clean.

  • @sixtyfiveford I see. I did not remove the venturi because you said it was not normally necessary if the carb looked clean. I will take the tube out and clean it and see if that helps. Thanks.

  • @pal51961 ......Just spray up through it. It is easily broken if not removed carefully. Your symptoms are that of a main circuit clog. The gas in the bowl is pulled from the bowl into the main jet and directly up the venturi tube into the throat of the carb.

  • @sixtyfiveford Is there any way I can email some pics of this carb?

  • I have a craftsman eager1 mower, It won't fire even on starting fluid, it just chuggs when the cable is pulled, i verrified spark and cleaned up the carb. any ideas?

  • @nullwii Sheared Flywheel key

  • @sixtyfiveford interesting, where do i verify that?

  • @nullwii pull off the flywheel and look at the key

  • @sixtyfiveford Got ya, i will take a look i didn't know it was called the key :P

  • @sixtyfiveford sure enough the key is in 2 pieces

now ive just gotta find a replacement :P

My mower is a "917 388620" craftsman with the "eager 1"

  • @nullwii You need to look it up by the engine model number. It will start with 143.***********

  • @sixtyfiveford yup, ended up calling sears, they no longer had the original part, found one on ebay for $3

    hopefully this thing works :D

  • @sixtyfiveford looks like the flywheel key didn't fix it, i couldn't get it to fire still and it is still making a chugging noise

  • @nullwii Your exhaust valve could be stuck open. What is your engine model number?

  • @sixtyfiveford its a 143 016702

  • @nullwii ..Ok I just wanted to see that it was a flathead engine. First I would remove the spark plug and with your finger over the spark plug hole; slowly pull the start rope. you should feel enough compression to pull your finger in and enough pressure to push it off. If there isn't enough compression to do these things.. a valve is stuck open.

  • @sixtyfiveford

there is compression and i did get arted on starting fluid now, (so the key did fix that)

i am guessing something wrong with the fuel system

  • @nullwii ..... take the nut off the bottom of the carb. Does fuel leak out and keep leaking out?

  • Thanks for the video, my tecumseh engine have let me down after a few years. I already both a new mauwer but i stil want to get the old one rollin again. In my opinion the valves need to be replaced because what ever i do it wont turn and aspecialy not in its lower rpm. Can somebody pleas tell me in what cases the valves would be to damages because they stil look good but i know the gliders have i little clearance. Thanks !!

  • Thanks for the detailed video. I have a Scotts lawnmower with a tecumseh carburator. I followed your direction in regards to cleaning out the carburator but I'm still not able to get the mower started. When I spray starting fluid in the carb, it fires up. It seems like there isn't any gas getting to the bowl. What am I missing? Also, do yo have any footage on the linkage. The rod and spring were both dis-assembled when I received the mower. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • @Mrjfrontier...... If you loosen the bowl nut/main jet with the carb attached to the engine gasoline should start dripping out(if there is fuel in the tank). This will tell you if fuel is getting into the carb. I don't have pictures of governor linkage.

  • hi i have a murry lawnmower and i found your video very helpful...my ques is that when i start my lawnmower it will turn off after i prime it each time so is it my carb?

  • @humper69er ..Yes

  • Great stuff sixtyfiveford, most complete video(s) for this carb (which I'm working on on a Craftsman Eager 1 bought used last spring).

  • Will the carb still work properly if the rubber primer is cracked? My carb is very clean and Im certain it doesnt need a re-build. I did clean it with carb cleaner and made sure none of the holes were restricted but still it will only run with help from the primer. I really gotta be pushing the primer too cuz its cracked. Also, will it run without the air cleaner. I remember working on a chainsaw carb before that wouldnt run without it.

  • @jdubcbr600 ...Yes the carb will still work with a cracked bulb. Yes it will run just fine without an airfilter. You still have a clogged jet. Most likely the main bowl jet.

  • I am in the process of cleaning the Tecumseh carb on my snow blower (the engine model is a HSK35, 40 or HSSK50, according to my owner's manual) and made the mistake of removing the venturi. Now I cannot get it to seat back in the carb. There are no obstructions I can see and it looks like it should just snap in, but it will not even clear the threads for the main jet. Do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks.

  • @66beamer ... It will get hung up on the little lip before it enters the throat of the carb. I tip the carb back and forth while GENTLY wiggling the venturi to get it to clear the lip. I then use the main jet to seat the venturi.

  • @sixtyfiveford I tried that, but obviously not enough. I was afraid of breaking it, but now that I know that is correct, I'll keep at it. Thanks.

  • @sixtyfiveford Great Video.

I have a snapper snow thrower with a HSK600 1696s engine. It sat for 2 seasons. Besides cleaning the carburetor and tank, the remote primer bulb does not seem to fill with gas. Is there a check valve in the bulb or carburetor that needs cleaning or replacing?

    Thanks!

    Sid

  • @siddav1205 ....The primer bulb only holds air. when you push it, it pushed air into the bowl of the carb. This displaces some fuel and puts it into the throat of the carb for easier starting.

  • So if no effect from primer bulb that means no fuel in the bowl I assume. It starts nicely on ether but quickly stalls out when its gone. I will dismantle and clean again. Thanks for your help.

  • @siddav1205 I know its been a month and you have probobly figured it out already but make sure the bowl is full of fuel. The problem I just encountered was the carb wasnt getting fuel after I took it off and replaced it . I had to prime the fuel line to get it to the carb by removing the line and holding it vertical to get the fuel flowing. just my 2 cents!

  • @sixtyfiveford the carb kit comes with three o-rings the two smaller ones go on the venturi before inserting it back into the carb in the vid you refer to the lower one but the upper one is still in the carburetor best bet is to dig the old one out and put both new ones in on assembly fwiw, the bigger o-ring included in the kit is for the adjustable jet...not used on this carb keep carb cleaner out of the needle valve area if you don't want to replace the needle AND seat

  • @sixtyfiveford - the best thing I have found for cleaning jets is a set of the smallest oxygen/acetylene torch tip cleaners you can find. (You have to be careful not to gouge or enlarge the hole at all. You can use just the smooth end of the cleaner to be safe.) They are GREAT ! - - As for the tiny, tiny holes I also use a piece of wire from a wire brush. The brush wire is very stiff and works well. Hope this helps you or other viewers/readers.

  • @specialks1953.. Yes these will work great to clear debris but as you run a high risk of damaging jets. Jets are almost always made of Brass which is softer than steel but harder than copper. That is why you should always use copper. I do you steel occasionally but ONLY as a last resort.

  • No timing issue, It attempts to run, (new) plug is mildly damp but no carbon. It'll run acouple beats then chokes out appearance of black smoke from exaust.no matter of choke position or application of either. Will only attempt to run at full choke.

What is weird I purchased a new unused plug installed it and checked generator with an angle grinder and it performed good, after shut down it gives indications listed above.

  • @MissingTrevor...........Black smoke as you know is excessive fuel. I would bet is it a leaking needle/seat.

  • I just bought a "pig in a polk" a 5k Coleman Generator with a 10hp Techumseh.

I watched your video and thoroughly cleaned the carb as on your video. The float is OK and all ports.

Symptoms Put a new spark plug into unit and it will run for awhile, after which when starting it will cycle and blow black and not run until cool again then the same cycle and blow black. Any Ideas?

  • @MissingTrevor ........ blow back?? do you mean it pops out of the carb?

  • What do i do if i broke the head off the main jet when i was taking it off and now the rest of the jet is in side the carb still. plz help

  • @1337bman ......... OH NO.. You might be able to drill it out carefully so you can install a new jet/bolt.

  • Excellent video. I never would have found that 3rd hole in the primary jet without your help. Also, the technique of using a copper wire strand is elegant. I had almost worn my arm out trying to start my leaf blower. After following your directions, it started on the first pull. Many thanks for your efforts.

  • Great video, I managed to clean up my carburetor without a hitch. But after I was finished, I was still having the same problem. When I prime the engine, it will start right up. But after the fuel that was sent in with the priming is burned, the engine dies. The governor appears to be doing what it's supposed to do, and I have even tried controlling the throttle manually but just can't keep it running. If I reach down and prime again before it dies, it's back to 100%. Any ideas anyone?

  • @esdouble ...Sound like your main jet is still partially clogged. You can remove it without removing the entire carb. Pass a fine wire through all the passages and blow them out with carb cleaner.

  • Can you send me the some pics I can't remember how the linkage was set up 6.5 Tecumseh scotts push mower

  • @wjaaa701 ....send me a pm with your email and I will send you pics.

  • the vid is good but the quality sucks, its hard to see everything what you are doing. all in all its great info.

  • yes i do, i just finsh doing the carb. job from your video, really help me alot thanks runs good, idont how to cause it has linkage that also goes to the brake band so when you press the brake , it pulls back the throttle

  • @sandovaljulio ................ I don't have pictures of the linkage setup that you are refering to. Your setup is unique to the go kart manufacturer.

  • Hey i have the same problem as (urpall) i got a go kart is missing the linkage i dont know how to set it

  • @sandovaljulio .............. On what type of Tecumseh. The engine in this video is for a Lawn Mower. Do you have a Powersports Tecumseh?

  • can u make a video on a carburetor linkage setup, with the individual choke and throttle

  • @urpall send me a private message with your email and I will send you some pictures

  • @sixtyfiveford can you send me the same pics I can't remember how the linkage was set up 6.5 Tecumseh scotts push mower.

  • Have the same carb .If the idler jet is missing then will the lawnmower run atall? where the idler jet screw thing should be there is the same hole but no screw/idler jet.

  • TY 5 STAR great vid

  • rebuilt carb now gas is in the air intake and all leaking out of the muffler can you help me?

  • @mrbear1974 ..............The seat/needle are leaking allowing the gas to never shut off.

    Causes:

    -seat is bad

    -dirt on seat

    -float not adjusted properly

-float damaged and full of gas

  • WalMart carb cleaner! :)

My carb runs rich and leaks gas through the air intake when not running. Maybe my float is sinking??

  • @RobertGary1 YEP, either a leaking seat or a float that has a hole and filled up with gas.

  • GREAT VID! some advice, check out a creative vado HD 8gb camera. They can be picked up for cheap and shoot 720p for some of the small carb parts would be helpfull. I would say about 85 bucks or less out the door

  • Thanks. All my newer videos are done with a Vado HD 8gb Camera. I need to go back and redo all my old videos;including this one.

  • cleaned everything but the (venturi?) the thing you push down with no luck ,decided to go at it again and broke the damn thing flush cleaned it anyway reinstalled and the focker fired right up first pull thanks man!! now what do I do with my briggs with a bent exhaust valve?

  • Bend the valve back straight. Daves Farm has a good video on this.

  • Outstanding. Followed the instruction and my lawnmower started up on the first pull. It had been out of commission for three years!

  • GREAT!!

  • i need some help with my tecumuseh engine would you get back to me thank you

  • What kind of help?

  • Hey, I just wanted to thank you. My Tecumseh carb was little different, but the idea was the same. Thanks to your video I was able to find the jets that were clogged and to get my snow blower up and running before our "big" snow storm this weekend.

Thank you for sharing the knowledge!!!

  • can u send me a video on how to put a diaphram kit in a ice auger techumsah motor?

  • I uploaded it last night.

the video is called Tecumseh diaphram carb rebuild part 1 and there is a part 2. Good luck.

  • Ummmm... What if you are stupid and you chem dip it thinking it will be okay? I know the diaphragm is shot... but did i accidentally destroy something?

  • On this carb there is not a diaphragm. There is a primer bulb that will be destroyed along with the seat for the needle and the bowl gasket.

  • Well, I know this sounds strange... but my old Tecumseh H35 carb has no primer bulb. The side case cover says 19-0-54. I believe (Not 64) and I dont know if that is the year or what... Thanks.

  • OH you have the diaphragm carb. I have a video of me repairing one but I haven't uploaded it yet. Maybe I will upload it tonight.

The diaphragm and attached gasket will be toast along with the seat for the needle. The rest of the carb will be fine.

  • Thanks, when you get it send it to me!!! I took off the bowl when I dipped in in cleaner. I am trying to find the diapgragm, or at least where it was...

  • I might have misunderstood your last comment. If your carb has a choke flap/lever then your carb will be identical the one in this video minus the built in primer bulb. In that case you have no diaphragm just a bowl gasket and a seat for the needle to get destroyed.

  • Best small engine carb rebuild on You Tube. Thanks I am subscribing. Keep posting. Thanks

  • how can you change the white elbow,i think its where the gas comes into carb, mine is leaking,i replaced hose, awsome vid

  • It is very common for these to crack and leak. They are just pressed on. The easiest way to fix them is to buy a new one. OR I always pull them off; slather them with some JB WELD and put press them back on(be careful not to clog the inlet hole). Once the JB WELD dries it is leak proof. If you go the route of the new one heat it up with a blow dryer before you put it on to reduce the risk of it cracking. The part number is 632527 and is usually $5-10.

  • Hey sixtyfiveford,

Just wanted to thank you for the two-part video on Tecumseh carb re-build. I just did mine this morning, suspect it was dirt, and now runs great. I've never done this before and wanted to let you know your short video really helped
