Because I have never been on this one, I can't really say I like it or not, but from this video, it looks as if it was a nice and relaxing ride :) I really do like the new one though, mostly because I am a Caballeros fan! And I love Test Track and Mission Space, but I never went on the old rides that they replaced.
I will continue riding this newer version of the ride, however, I did like the old version better. Same is true for O'Canada, and the previous Spaceship Earth. I liked the older versions much better. Thank you for this wonderful video. A great memory to keep, of the older version.
I will continue riding this newer version of the ride, however, I did like the old version better. Same is true for O'Canada, and the previous Spaceship Earth. I liked the older versions much better.
I hate what they've done to this ride and Spaceship Earth. They took away all the mysticness and wonder of both rides and replaced them with pure tackyness.
Well, technically, its not really for KIDS. Its more of a ride to INTRODUCE the 3 caballeros to kids and is also a ride for the fans of the 3 caballeros
the ride is alright to me- near the ending with the hagglers was the highlight and greatest memory of the ride itself... But the music is the part i like the best... not sure why it sticks in my head, I did not go on the ride that much.
I hate Mexico, but dang... the pavillion and ride were great. Too bad Disney had to ruin the ride like they've ruined so many others in the last couple of years.
I am a big fan of test track, as I like the whole proving ground concept and the top speed of 64.8 MPH or so. But I can see people not liking the stopping and going. to answer your question, test track replaced the previous GM exhibit, World of Motion. Horizons is where Mission to Space is now.
I miss this ride; it was one of my favorites. I understand the need to progress, but the new ride doesn't compare to the original. Thanks for the great video.

Since Disney put in such an incredibely crappy version of Pirates of the Caribbean in WDW, i'm glad they incorporated a similar beginning scene for this ride. I love the "outdoor" restaurant themes in both El Rio del Tiempo and Pirates at Disneyland.
haha i miss "The River Of Time" (aka El Rio Del Tiempo) i <3 donald but the cliff divers!?!? i <3ed them!!! now instead its donald and his stupid amigos are diving!!! UGH!! one HE-UGE mistake disney!!!!! GOSH!
I swear the Lighting effects are so cool.they are my inspiration for reviving knott's bear-y tales with the same lighting of darkness in some of the scenes of this ride.
I think their intention was to try and balance out the 'age group appeal', but the ride didn't 'balance out' like they thought it would. I can see how it could have worked if it was a lot more like the original "Three Caballeros" movie, with the character commentary instead of the characters interrupting the culture and scenes in the ride.
This was a great ride. I think they should have combined this show with the new version. first guests could experience El Rio del Tiempo but at the end they could go down a water fall and see the Grand Fiesta Tour.
Thanks for posting this! The Aztec emperor seen in the last film sequence was Florencio Yescas, leader of the first Aztec dance groups in the US. He also designed and produced the costumes and provided the music and instruments as well as the dancers, many of whom are still performing today. R.I.P. Florencio 10/30/23-7/5/85... we still miss you.
Oooh, thank you so much for posting this. So you were the one with the camera? ;-)
I love this silly song so much that I worked out a version that I play on my electric piano (with mariachi accompaniment). I love the original ride El Rio Del Tiempo so much.
To be fair, ALL Disney rides are great, BUT whenever they take an existing ride and change it, they risk comparisions to the original version. I don't think putting the cartoon Donald 3 amigos in there was a good idea. Disney is like a jewel in the middle of an area of Florida that is otherwise not much. I hope a recession doesn't hurt attendance in the parks like it did years ago.
It will. Recreation like the Parks will get hit as people pocket books get hit. The one good thing out of it; Disney really puts together some great packages when they feel the pinch. - _ RU
It is sad to see Disney making any cutbacks. Disney parks are like a utopian microcosm of society. If they are struggling, the rest of society is really getting hit hard.
@jdohe I second the notion! If they had added the Three Cabanerros at the end rather than putting them everywhere in the ride, that would've been one thing. But with the very specifically timed clips of the Three Cabanerros, they run the risk of the ride being out of sync for certain riders.
@jdohe Recessions/depressions are hard to understand. On one hand, entertainment businesses can get hit hard because no one wants to buy such luxuries anymore. But on the other hand, people may feel more tempted to blow what little money they have on a great movie or one memorable vacation; something that will help them forget how much life sucks right now.
i agree...the old one is the essence of Mexico, which is what the World Showcase should be. The new version is too campy and as someone who has Mexican heritage, it upsets me
Thanks so much for posting this!! I am so sad about what they did to this ride. Thank goodness we can watch this, you are awesome!!!! PS-Great production too!!!

I just found out today they've changed it. I was really looking forward to riding this next time I went to Disney. It's something I always was sure to go on. I don't think I'll even bother riding the new ride. Thank you for the video, it brings back memories.
It reopened yesterday (only 3 days later than intended)...I haven't been on there yet. They included The Three Caballeros onto the ride; Those include Donald Duck, Jose Carioca (who is from Brazil), and Panchito Pistoles (who is from Mexico). I'm not going to make any judgments until I actually ride it. A co-worker of mine rode it yesterday and said it was good, so we'll just have to see.
Next to Small World, this is probably the most annoying ride in Disney. It is hardly a reflection on the Mexican people, and in a way, it's almost insulting...
