It has no been considered as a way to classify anything that screams or growls nowadays. Some will say it is not a genre at all but rather the way a vocalist projects his voice. From all the reasearch I have been looking at, 'Screamo' is actually a sub-genre of music. It was created around mid 80s I believe, and died out in the 90s.

Such bands as Saetia, Orchid and Raein are real 'Screamo' bands. check them out, they sound nothing like 'post-hardcore', 'metalcore', deathcore' or any of those kind of genres. It is all a matter of opinion though, but in my opinion, 'Screamo' is real, it just ceases to exsist nowadays.
