I was very little when I heard this song for the first time, and I swear I didn't know any English back then... yet, somehow, the title chant got stuck in my head, living in the corners of my mind for all these years, occasionally coming out when I had an urge to sing something. And, when I was little, I sang nothing but cartoon themes. It must've been hilarious (or irritating) from my mother's point of view. 1971 I was singing and playing the guitar on the St. Germaine des Pres in front of the Cafe Deux Margot with my partner Kathy Lowe when a Green Jag stopped and out hopped Cluad Boliling. He came swaggering over to me clomping on an unlit cigar and said " come with me kid I am going to make you a star" He took me to the Gaumont studios and asked me to sing live with about 100 musicians. Remains a highlight of my life and proof that good luck can catch you anywhere.
