Actually, it wasn't this race alone since Gordon won the title by 364 points (I looked it up so you don't have to). If Martin had won this race and Gordon finished where he did, the 24 still would have won the title by a lot.
True, there was still a chance, but in hindsight this race didn't mean much since Gordon would have won it by about 225 points if Martin had finished well at 'Dega. It was just Gordon's year.
well if this is in 1998 then why does it have jrs #8 bud car with rookie stripes following earnhardt? i think this is 2000 b/c look at the style of the monte carlo.

At the time, Mark was still in shooting distance of Jeff. So no, there was still a chance for Mark to catch him.
