@slashdude44 Yup... rather than try to shape it I bent it... and yes, the board will definitely hold it's shape that way...
I've seen some videos online where people will actually shape a wooden board, usually with balsa or koa wood or something, but it wastes a lot of material and although I never did it myself I think it would take a heck of a long time...
hey, ive been surfing for along time and have quite a few boards, but none like this... how much do you think you would charge to make me one of these??
@SuperSurfergirly The materials are inexpensive but it still takes me 40 to 50 hours to do one... I think I'd be asking about $850... You're welcome to come try one out especially on a winter saturday in NJ... let me know...
@trev1582 it's what you'd expect from a board that's a little heavy - so it handles chop well, duck-dives great and holds a decent line... definitely not a high performance board though...
Um... I'd say the process might take a little experimentation before you get any board you make (wood or foam shape) to suit you and your surf spot just right... I say go for it but have a back-up... good luck!
Hi Pad, I don't see why you couldn't make one especially if you already have the tools. I have a limited supply of tools... just a jigsaw and a belt sander could get you rolling.
Definitely go the extra mile to do some research on materials, the process, yada yada yada... I'll try to post replies faster too if you have questions.
I think more work needs to be done to keep it from delaminating now too... I got some splitting in one of the boards. If you're thinking about making one of these: 1. Use a waterproof glue or epoxy 2. Install a vent plug in the top before you glue it to the other layers so the pressure can release
It goes... but I gave it too much rocker and didn't make it thick enough so it doesn't paddle too great... on the positive side, it's decent for bigger wave days b/c it duck-dives really easy and the big nose rocker keeps it from nosing into the steeper waves...
Also, I used boat epoxy to try and seal it up because fiberglass is tough to get perfectly smooth - but the epoxy wasn't water-tight after the first coat. I had to go back and touch a couple places where I was getting pin-hole leaks.
Hey so thank you for the video i was wondering by gluing it in the concave you want it will stay like that? thanks
