On the contrary. Jerry Nelson has been performing on Sesame Street for thirty-nine years. He's more than a usual Muppet man, he's a Muppet performing legend.
How about not making any trash to begin with? We aren't going to solve the trash problem simply by throwing it in the garbage, because it all ends up in landfills on our earth anyways. So how about teaching kids to live simply so others can simply live without having to bare the burden of our over-consumption?
@blazer88100 Should we teach little kids to be afraid to use anything then? We should not waste things, be we should also not be paranoid! The only way not for a person not to make any trash is not to live! So we have to have some trash.
The newspaper hovering etherially at 1:17 is terrifying somehow... I think what irritates me is that half the crap Johnny Trash flings in the garbage bin can easily be recycled or composted! But then, I guess they didn't do no fancy city-slicker conservation out there on the range.
I will never litter again. THANKS RONNIE TRASH! As for the mention of cigars, I think it was also directed to the parents watching it with their kids.
Seriously. I appreciate where their heart is, but this is NOT the lesson we need to spend time and money on to teach our children. We need to talk about trash REDUCTION and recycling. Over packaging and constant manufacturing of cheap products that aren't meant to last. We need to attack the source here. Not just what we do with it.
Hi, dana9marie. I just happened to see this and thought you deserve an answer. I wrote this song with Johnnie Cash's permission. I see you posted 10 months ago and thought I ought to let you know that this piece was done around twenty-five years ago. I grew up in the depression and we recycled everything then. We were then seduced by marketing and packaging and "down we forgot as up we grew". Where were you 25 yrs ago and how much recycling did you or your parents do? I'm just sayin'..
The second one is "And as I travel the highways and byeways I see all matter of trash where it doesen,t belong." He means seeing trash where it doesen't belong makes him mad.
I'm into environmental science, and I understand it's more than just trash that can harm the earth. What about gas pollution, acid rain, or pesticides?
Cherish this, because soon, they will be making parodies of bieber...

Ronnie Trash does rhyme with Johnny Cash. Definitely, trash is a waste!

Throw your cans where they belong: in the recycling bins.

Why do I have the feeling that whoever voiced Ronnie Trash isn't one of the usual Muppet men?

@blazer88100 Don't forget that Sesame Street also made several segments that year to teach about recycling.

This clip was from the 70s. Littering was a really big problem, but recycling and efficiency was not. If this were made today it would be different.

Ronnie Trash must be the same puppet used for the lumberjack bloke in the Wide Open Spaces song. Only with eyes added and beard removed.

You know, this might not be a fashionable remark, but I think Jerry Nelson has the Cashesque twang better than Joaquin Phoenix.

When Ronnie sings "He's gone too far."
It looks like he means "He's drove too far." Even though he really means "Gone too far with littering."

You say that as if litter isn't a problem either.

"Don,t throw it on the earth!" What about the garbage dump? It,s on the earth!
moatguy 3 years ago 6
I'm sure he meant not to throw it on the grass or the sidewalk or even in the street which is all earth.
