  • I have some advice for Malcolm Turnbull - the media clearly doesn't like you and doesn't even air your point of view - I often ask myself whether Laurie Oaks is receiving sexual favours from Rudd. Anyway, the ONLY way you are going to get your message across is to use more catchphrases e.g 'Recession Rudd' 'Rudd has just scraped workchoices and fired 300,000 Australians' 'Sinking swan' etc Simply going on youtube and in front of cameras calmly articulating your point of view will not work

  • Heres another thing about the Libs and Malcolms idea of Tax Cuts. The Libs agree we need to go int debt to get out of this Crisis. They are squbbleing about how much and where to spend it. But if you hand out Tax Cuts would that not reduce the Govts capacity to repay the debt due to less Revenue. Make no mistake the Libs support Debt to get out of this. Just want to argue the toss. And do some point scoreing. I tip a Double Dissolusion, as we come out of this crisis. Lib History "block supply"

  • I would be interested to hear Malcolms response to Pacific Brands (Bonds, King Gee) sacking employees moving offshore. While The corporate Fat Cats awarded themselves massive pay rises. This Fat Cat Largess has gone on far too long. Banks sent the worlds economy in a spin, yet they still take home Mega Million in Pay Outs. All while the little man has to trade his $20 a week rise for productivity. Make the Fat Grubby Corporate thieves do the same. Time for the little Guy to say enough. Mongerels

  • kenneththorpe

I think is seems pretty obvious that Pacific Brands had planned to sack these staff and make this move not only to make a few extra million for themselves but to help the liberal party.

Lots of companies run by right wing cretons are sacking staff to try and make people scared.

The libs dont care about the average Australian, they only care about helping teh rich get richer.

  • Malcolm, you're very talented but I believe Peter Costello will lead the Coalition out of opposition.

  • Thanks Mal, but you're not in government and school groups visiting parliament house aren't either. So let the government govern. By the way, in more prosperous times, Australia will recover the debt, not an insult. Also, just in case you don't know, you have to go into debt to make money.

  • Malcolm Turnbull's plan to give and extra 3500 dollars a year for people earning over $200,000 a year!!!! How unAustralian is that?

The liberals cant stand to see any money at all going to low and middle income earners. The people who run the liberal party are involved in big business, and they need the average Australian to be really struggling so they can exploit us all the more easily. They need you to be as poor as possible.

  • I think the one good thing that has come out of the Liberal parties decision to attempt to block the 42 billion dollar rescue package is the scrutiny that will now be paid to the planned tax cuts.

Most people did not realise that these planned tax cuts were so badly skewed to benefit the wealthy. The gap between the rich and the poor is already far to big, these tax cuts will only serve to make the rich richer and the poor even poorer.

Scrap the planned tax cuts now, we don't need them.

  • Well Mr. Liberal, if your predecesor and his gay partner GW Bush, didnt screw up so much before this new government is formed, maybe we wouldn't be in this such mess. This is the problem NOW. It is not in the future.

  • You are an idiot, Johnny Howard paid off all our debt. Kevin07 wants to put us back in debt.

    The bug W. is irrelevant

  • you're a dumb moron. how much do you think a war cost US or any typical country for that matter?

everyone is in debt for one reason only war on Iraq. No Invasion of Iraq, oil prices wouldnt rise, high oil prices high fuel, fuel cost industries. Howard only say what everyone would like to here.

So for you be quiet you numb skull.

  • The war hardly cost australia anything that could not be covered by the defence budget.

Blaming the resession on the war is typical leftist bullshit. The only people to blame for the resession are the corporate highflyers who were greedy.

  • ausaskar

"The war hardly cost australia anything that could not be covered by the defence budget. "

That's rubbish. The stupid war in Iraq, which of course was based on lies, is one of the things that has put us in this situation, not the only thing, but definitely one of them.

It is important to remember that a select group of ppl got very rich from the war in Iraq. When you can charge the US govt $20 for a bullet then you are making a good profit.

  • thanks jandles for helping me tell this person that he's a moron.

1+1=2 ausaskar remeber that. in the world oil means everything. I see you want to be in the navy. i was in the special forces, so im guessing you have no clue.

Howard gave us GST, he made numerous promises that interest rates wont rise, he made deals with USA about free trade agreement which they took with a happy smile bec they can take advantage of our best price medicine.

Defence budget comes from australian budget. Duh.

  • Net additional spending on the iraq war was $1.56 billion over five years. (2002-03 to 2006-07)

So about 315 million per year for australias contribution in iraq. to put that in perspective we spent 6.484 billion to host the olympics in 2000, 5.99 on "community services and culture" (2007-2008) and a whopping 96.45 on welfare (2007-2008)

  • $1.56bil cost is just for the welfare and income of our soldiers, that doesnt include the equipments, hardware and plants. $1.56bil has interest as well as deducted from our overall wealth, that money will never be seen again.

Olympic Costs is refunded since all those equipments are still being used for sports venues and other purposes. therefore $6.484Bil is being paid as we speak.

    Stop with the Howard bullshit,

  • And whats the alternative. Julia Bishop who was the Libs Treasury Spokesperson shifted sideways after bungle after bungle. Malcolm said just last year Pensioners need to be better looked after. Now Tony Abbott is saying we can't afford it. Mind you the Libs had years to fix that problem and didn't. The Libs financial credibillity is under fire. All while Costello sits on the back bench waiting till 6-12 months out fromn the next election to grab the top job. Most effective overthrowsare so timed

  • So do we help Pensioners or not. What is the Libs plan to fix the financial crisis. Well Malcolm wanted a $3500 Tax Cut for the wealthy. Pensioners who have lost up to 50% in retirement savings, according to Tony (BIG HEART) Abbott, they shold get nothing. Lets be reminded it was the wealthy that caused the financial crisis. And it seems the Libs want to reward them with $3500, and forget the struggleing Pensioners. Who have done it hard for years under the Libs. And ignored. Good plan (GOD NO)

  • I agree with you the Iraq War has little to do with the economic crisis. And i disagree with you. Paying off the Debt caused by the greed of Big Business in the late 80s was achieved by the Libs sale of National assets. It was also achieved by inflated costs of consumerables which gave Govt a huge windfall in Taxation revenue. Every 10c increase in things like fuel gives the govt around 4% of the increase. Not to mention the failure in the houing sector to cap home prices big Tax windfall also.

  • All the Howard Govt did was take the windfall in revenue from an overheating economy, built onthe greed of the Banking sector and Big Business and repay Debt. Thats even before we touch on the Mining boom which also delivered massive revenue. It is an inacuracy to say the Howard Govt repayed Debt. Howard and Costello simply took the windfall from corporate greed and payed off debt with it. Mind you that corporate greed got us in the financial mess we are in now. why do they still get big bonuses

  • If the working class man has to trade pay increases for productivity. Why is it that when the Banking sector gets greedy throws the world into its worst recession since the 1930s they still get huge bonuses and payouts?. The answer is not less regulation of Banking and the Finance sector. The answer is more regulation and a capping of big payouts and bonuses particularly at times when the Banking/Finance sector fails. Obviously Howard and Costello never learnt from the 80s recession and greed.

  • I am sick of the populist people blaming the greedy banks for this crisis. THE CRISIS WAS CAUSED BY POOR PEOPLE BUYING HOMES THEY COULDN"T AFFORD AND DEMOCRACTIC/LABOUR GOVERNMENT ENCOURAGING THE SYSTEM TO DO SO

  • You are Wrong Filty Greed is the cause of the Crisis. The Top end of town gets Greedier and Greedier. The Banks lent Money to people with an inabillity to Pay it Back. Its simple economics. I wouldn't lend $100 to someone who wont pay it back. Banks have a responsabillity to shareholders to lend resonsibily. But when they run the Bank int Bankruptcy and award themselves Mega Bonuses to do so it is nothing short of Filthy Greed. Workchoices stank and had to go. Malcolm doesn't even want it back.

  • There was a case recently where three Barmen were sacked for not being as GOOD LOOKING as Female Bar Staff. Under Workchoices they would have had no right to complain and would have to wear it. Worse the Manager could have called them names and not payed them all entitlements and got away with it. Or put them on contracts tradeing away any shift Bonuses and other rights. Workchoices was on the nose thats why the Libs lost the Election, and Howard became the 2nd only PM to lose his seat.

  • You can't even spell. Anywhere else in the world, people with your level of education and qualifications earn less than $5 per hour so you should FUKING feel fortunate that 5% of the Australian population pays ridiculously high taxes to keep you afloat and subsidise a standard of living you don't deserve

  • What a joke , its the little people that Pay Taxes. The big end of town gets huge concessions and spends its time avoiding Tax with near criminal intent. So its the little man or the 95% of Australians that are the real Tax Payers who constantly subsidise you and your filthy Tax Dodgeing Greed. Oh and thanks for pointing out my Dyslexia. Certainly a person like you would abuse a disabillity. You already abuse the 95% of honest Tax payers with Tax Dodgeing and Bonuses for nothing.

  • Got any Van Goughs in the foyer of your Business? I am sure if you go get one you could write it off on Tax. Isn't that what the Fat Cats at HIH did?. They broke Thousands of Aussies and got off with fortunes intact, and minor Gaol sentances in Holiday camps. Then went home to the Million Dollar homes and Fat Wallets. If a worker has to trade a lousy $20 a week increase for productivity. Why aren't Bosses made to do the same for Bonuses. Run a Company into the ground and get a bonus its a Joke.

  • 40% of Australian workers pay ZERO tax - family benefits, deductions etc. Don't make sweeping statements without knowing the facts. By the way, thanks for voting KRUDD in

  • Well the other option was Howard who sent us to War on the back of Bush the Drunken Sailor, who showed us Pics of Ice Cream Factorys and empty Trucks to prove there were WMDs in Iraq. Who supported Human rights abuses in Guantanamo. And gave us Workchoices putting insecurity into average peoples lives. Howard was tought a real lesson the 2nd only PM to lose his own seat. The last one was a HumanRights abuser too who had striking Miners in the Hunter starved and Killed. Howard was just as Bad.

  • And don't take the U.Ss new face saving position either. That it was about Terrorisum. Rubbish it was about WMDs there were no Terrorists in Iraq till the U.S got there.

  • maybe its a coincidence that the economy went down hill after the oil rise which was the result of high oil prices per barrel, while that was happening war on Iraq was going on. Unless you're a moron to see the shades of grey then be quiet. War on afganistan was superficial oil prices was fine then, as soon as the unglorified war on Iraq surfaced global economy took a down hill spiral. Oil in the world is everything. If you raise its prices everything else goes with it.

  • Ugh another consiracy therorist. I have no doubt at all that there were added political motive to that War. And many have theorized as to what that may be. You are just another one. For you to claim the World Financial crisis is as a result of it is not factual nor has it any basis. FACT, Big Business got greedy (once again) mainly the Banking Industry (again). Perhaps you may be better served on a site looking for the Bigfoot, or Aliens. Thanks for the THEORY, but no thanks.

  • its not a theory its a fact, when Gay howard brought in th GST, food in everyones trolley minimised, when gay howard gave away our medicines for US our health care went up, invasion on iraq, surprisingly wow on oil. its a 1+1=2. you dont need to be an expert on it, just a common sense, you can blame it all on the banks but the thing is the banks were always raising their rates based on the economy and Reserve bank. Since oil is the centre on everything war on iraq. Try getting your spelling

  • so you lost.

  • Rudd will be sweating when Costello becomes opposition leader.

  • why? costello is a whine-bag. where was he when liberals needed him? he got scared when rudd won

  • Gaol the Bankers that caused this crisis. Who stole Homes and Jobs from hard working Dads and Mums. Who stole Retirement funds from Retirees. And ruined an Economy. Gaol em

  • kenneththorpe

"Gaol the Bankers that caused this crisis"

    Now your talking!!!

A few years in a cell with Bubba and his mates might wake the clowns up!

  • Yeah why would Turnbull want to reward the Rich Stiff Silvertails that caused the crisis with a $3500 Tax Cut. I say Gaol the Bastards not reward them. But Malcolm is a Banker himself. Most Liberal Patrty supporters are 4 Credit Card, Dual Mortgage wanna bees. Who can't see that Malcolm and his mate would stiff them at every turn given the chance. A kid in NSW got 3 months Gaol for Graffiti and these people ruin a country and Malcolm wants to give them a Tax Cut. WHAT!. IS HE OFF HIS HEAD?. dope

  • Why is it when Textile companys were going broke. Not one Lib Complained about John Howard bailing his brothers company out while others went broke. Why is it when we went to War with NO WMDs the Libs never complained about money. Why is it when Peter Reiths son stole $50.000 in Govt money on Phone calls to Porn Sites No Libs complained. If i stole $50.000 of anything i would be in Gaol. But no Daddy payed the bill so no charges. NOW WHEN FAT CATS HAVE RUINED ECONOMYS TURNBULL WANTS A TAX CUT.?

  • Soo Mr Turnbull, now we see the real reason behind YOU wanting to block the stimulus. how about Peter Briger, from the "vulture company" Fortress Investment Group? and your association with him from Goldman Sachs? As we see Briger profits from distressed communities and hard times, and I guess thats your own goal as you sure DONT have any empathy for those who are doing it tough noo.. Get with the program, and get out of the way, you are now history!!

  • If Turnbull insists on blocking this 42 billion dollar bill the government should scrap the all planned tax cuts and re-design them so they will benefit ordinary Australians instead of just the very wealthy.

I know Kevin promised to implement them, but he will be left with no choice but to make very extreme modifications to them if Turnbull and the Libs insist on continuing on the path they have chosen.

If Turnbull thinks he has a monopoly on throwing spanners in the works he is wrong.

  • If they want to kill our baby then lets kill theirs!

  • Hey jandles101. Very good point and insight. Something else that all current Polliticians could be thinking about.

  • Goodbye Roger and Kenneth, It has been fun. Lets hope that I am wrong and you are right. Long live socialism!

  • Why does Malcolm not visit his own site. Its just for show. Like His rejection of the Stimulus.

  • Kenneth, keep watching the 7:30 report which has turned you into an expert. Perhaps you can take over from Swan because you are probably equally qualified to do his job. I suppose you were cheering the economists who were increasing the bank rate at exactly the wrong time, due to your astute understanding of economics. When your family are looking to you for their survival remember who you backed.

  • Fact Rudds plan is 2% of GDP. Well within IMF calculations (reasonable). Fact Malcolm Turnbull (Even though a Banker) has been unable to muster much support at all for his rejection of the stimulus. Treasury, and almost every Enonomist says its the way forward. Fact it is also agreed that stimolus is needed immediately. Malcolm Turnbull stands alone on this purely for pollitical reasons. Turnbull took a huge dive in the Polls after the last Package Dec 08. Poll Driven thats all it is. FAT CAT.

  • Do you remember the frightening statement, "the inflation genie is out of the bottle" made buy our esteemed leaders Rudd and Swan? I suppose you feel that an accurate assessment of the situation? You see, it will have said in the economic text books you so freely quote, that inflation above 3.5% is BAD. Guess what, it depends on the circumstances.

  • Due to mismanagement of finances by the Big End of Town. Pensioners are finding they have little or far less to live on. These hard working Mums and Das who built a life on sweat, now find they have nothing. Malcolm wants to Reward the wealthy with a 3500 Tax Cut. Fat Cats that ruined the financial sector. Yet the people who built the country, fought in Wars and sweated all through it have no retirement funds. Its a joke and Turnbull is a Clown if he thinks the little people will stand for it.

  • For some reason I am not able to include web links in my comments so I cannot direct you to information supporting my arguments. So good bye.

  • mikeem60

Sometimes the best way to do this is to provide search terms for google that will deliver the page you wish me to view as the first or one of the first results, usually the title of the article works OK.

  • Try " tax multipliers" and "hyperinflation". The point is that Turnbull is not advocating "no stimulus package" he is suggesting a combined approach. Which makes sense to me. Unlike Roger who quotes Economic texts, I did study economics at uni (although I am not an economist) so I take a keen interest in the detail.

  • Perhaps Malcolm could explain why his proposal to bring forward 2010 Tax cuts is stimulus. The 2010 Tax Cuts give wealthier Aussies 3500 dollars which as people who are wealthy will go straight into the Bank. The whole idea of a stimulus package is to get people to spend. And why shold Aussies who are losing homes and jobs support a package that favors the Big end of town, like Bankers who got us in this crisis with greed in the first instance. Gaol the Bankers and strip them of Bonuses NO CUTS.

  • Calm down Kenneth, you are spitting. At last we have a point of agreement. I also dislike most bankers! Especially the freshly minted MBA smart-arses, who created "financial instruments" and packaging to hide dodgy loans. They should be hung drawn and quartered. But don't forget the agents who sold the dodgy loans or the consumers who over committed themselves. However that is not going to solve our problem. Sound, well thought out policies will. Not knee jerk politics.

  • From your comments and insults to all people with a fresh, valid point of view, very sad. I can see from other peoples they have a healthy debate. You have lost the debate many times over with everyone's facts. Thank you for your humour... Hope you left by taking a leaf out of everyone's book.

  • Prior message was to mikeem60. Lets see what happens. Overall lets hope the Australian Economy gets better quickly for everyone's sake.

  • Rodger, I hate to point this out but you started it. Please reread your previous comments before you mount your high-horse. In fact I understand the point completely which is what gets me uptight when I read misinformed comment. Most of what I read here is ill informed tall poppy bashing rhetoric. If you you ignore the personal response you will note that that there is an argument that is based on sound reasoning and not party politics.

  • Hey mikeem60. Why should a person need to ignore personal comments. Take a chill pill, you seemed to have yourself worked up and now criticising ANYONE expressing their freedom of speech. Read any Economic Book with Economic Strategies, Economic History. I didnt write the books. Stick to facts mikeem60. Your focus is on the pedistool you seem to have your self on. Good Luck! (Leave out insults to other people who have the RIGHT to express their opinions, whether personal or professional).

  • Rodger does the following quote sound familiar? "I would love to have a healthy debate not a immature personal attack on families." It is obvious that you are an ill informed halfwit. You quote these Economic history books like you have read them but I can see from your comments that you have not. Have a good life and I hope that you tell your boss (if you in fact have a job) what you think of him for creating your job.

  • God I hate you you big business-loving, everyday-man-hating prick. Fall in a hole and die.

  • How puerile, please find a more appropriate forum to voice your bigotry. In fact I do not love big business nor do I hate the everyday man. All I did was work my backside off to achieve my dreams. In the process I employed many people who earned a fair wage. I also generated a significant amount of tax revenue that has made this country great. What I do hate is witnessing an inept leader destroying a century of work.

  • mikeem60

"I also generated a significant amount of tax revenue that has made this country great"

Actually, Its pretty much a given that you spent a lot of your time and effort figuring out ways to avoid and minimize your tax burden as most wealthy business ppl do.

  • So am I to assume you did not? If you took the time to forget your prejudice and thought through the tax cut implications you would understand the reasoning behind it. All you are dong is focusing on a small aspect of the effect. Where you get your figure from I don't know but it is not important. Look at the bigger picture and not your short term gain.

  • mikeem60

The tax cuts which the libs want bought forward are like all liberal party tax cuts skewed to benefit the wealthy, and provide little to no benefit for the vast majority of ppl.

The Gap between the rich and the poor is already to big, and continually growing, there is no basis for tax cuts which simply increase this gap further.

I think it would be favourable to completely scrap the planned tax cuts and re-design them so that they benefit the majority instead of the rich minority.

  • I can't continue this discussion.

  • That's a shame, but I understand.

  • Yeah typical Liberal party, massive tax cuts for the wealthiest people and nothing for the average person. Lets face it, it is people like Turnbull who got us into this crisis in the first place, after all he is an ex-banker. So I move that he be no longer heard on the subject.

Turnbull wants to give $3500 dollars a year to his rich mates instead of one payment of $950 for people who really need it, what a scum bag!

  • You listen to the bullshit that you hear from Labour sympathizers and and regurgitate it as your own. If we reduce taxes it places the funds in the hands of the consumers and employers, who drive the economy. Increased government spending worked in the early 20th century because capital projects employed large numbers of workers. In the 21st century we use machines. It only benefits a narrow band of the economic sector. Your amateur economic theory is laughable.

  • Mikeem60, you are missing the point. Name calling and assuming that a person are Labour supporters, has nothing to do with what party is in government. This so called evidence you have, I can see is made up. Who cares about people identities. You have obviously taken other peoples freedom of speech to heart. By your name calling and put downs towards other members here demonstrates you have lost focus of the issue. Show me what evidence you say is proven detrimental or just sit back & wallow.

  • Mikeem60. I would love to have a healthy debate not a immature personal attack on families. Stick to the facts, focus on overall solutions. Sometimes a solution may not be the one all people want, but it is still a solution. Better to utilise your energy on positive solutions not focussing on the problem. Anyone that lowers to personal name calling has already lost the fight / debate. Take a breather & leave all personal party attacks & attacks on people personally for the School Yard. Good Luck!

  • Obviously Rodgering is what you want Rudd to do to our economy. Must have been Economics 101 that both you and Kenneththorpe did at the Mugabe School of Economics! It has categorically been proven that the type of intervention that Rudd is proposing is counter productive. I cannot believe the claptrap that you speak. Thank goodness you do not have your real identities on display because it would be embarrassing to your families. We need reduced taxes AND reduced government spending.

  • Behold the benighted socialists who would be millionaires! Sucess with money comes from prudential management not government handouts! The emperor has no clothes!.... Turnbull turned on the light!! Woof Woof!!

  • davidprice will your rich mates be complaining when Turnbulls package hands them $3500 in Tax Cuts. As for the handouts Turnbull stands alone. IMF, Treasury, almost every Economist says we must spend our way out. When we get to 3 million unemployed there will be no Tax Cuts for the Fat Cats as there will be NO MONEY. Turnbull is going for Pollitical mileage. He was hammered in the Polls after the last package. He stands alone on this, no mates. And to back him up you come out with dribble.

  • I agree Kenneththorpe. My prior message story book was a reply to Davidprice99. History of Economics with our Government and other countries have proven the method or strategy Rudd is taking has proven to be more successful and beneficial in the longterm for the people.... Have a look in almost any Economic Book Davidprice99.

  • Thats right from a children's story book. Rudd is just not handing out Cash Payouts. He is moving infrastructor and putting it into the building sector as well as the Public School System (which has been screaming for assistance). From this who will do the work... Yes our trades people, which will create a more positive ripple effect, than sitting on our bums, whinging whose to blame. Tradies go down in the Crisis, so do rest of Australia. If we look back at history Economics, this method works.

  • What Rudd is doing is known as one of the Economic Strategies to put in place during a Economic Crisis. There are 3 major directions to take. Either the Government puts back into the Economy & encouraging people to spend or 2 encourage tax, interest rates increases. There's a name for what Rudd is trying to implement (forgotten what it's called). I learned in Economics, out of the 3 Major Strategies for a Economic Crisis, the step Rudd is doing, history has proven to be the most effective way!!

  • Australia is going to head into debt anyway. At least attempting to save jobs and give middle class familys a Cash Payout is a start. This is proactive. Easy for this idiot MT to point the finger. Australia is already there. Our families and the Tradies are what hold Australia up. If they get caught in this crisis, then the rest of Australia will follow. Rudd is trying to help. Yes its a gamble, How come MT didnt speak up prior to the financial crisis and help then. It was seen before then.

  • I agree completely with you rodgering1973. In my opinion, Malcolm is somehow ignoring the fact that stimulus means more projects which means more employment and income, which helps to jumpstart the ecomony as that money is spent again. The important thing is avoiding a recession. How will tax cuts create/maintain jobs, especially when Malcolm is promoting low economic confidence, with Aussies left feeling they should save their bonuses? I'd love a liberal supporter to answer this for me

  • Yes me too steelja03. A stab in the dark here. I guess if some people did decide to save their bonuses. It would still mean it will be spent sometime. I took MT comment to save the bonuses in a way of sabotaging (so to speak), so if the people did save them. then it will give more ammunition to say it didnt work. Also, Australian Bureau of Satistics showed the December 08 spending (last stimulas package) was a bigger month than predicted. That demonstrates the last stimulas was a success to me.

  • Tip to all Liberal idiots. Listen to the IMF, Treasury, The vast majority of Economists and any one else of note. An immediate cash injection through stimulus is URGENTLY needed. Do not listen to a Liberal Party Leader who stands alone on this and is lagging badly in the Polls and desperate to be heard. It is Political grandstanding from Turnbull while every day he delays the situation gets worse. Dads and Mums lose homes and kids go Hungry. He is a BANKER one of the fools that caused this.

  • Who or where the fuck are we borrowing all this money from?!?!?!

  • We are currently experiencing the the effects the actions of the incompetent Stevens. The RBA's increase of interest rates as a result of inflation caused by external drivers (mostly the increase in oil price) has been catastrophic.Rudd and Swan reinforced the effects by telling the Australian population that we were doomed before they even knew what the effects of the subprime collapse would have on our banks!! Our problems are largely as a result of negative local economic sentiment.

  • This is the problem. Most people only listen to sound bites. Rudd wants permission to take our debt to $200 billion dollars. The 42 billion is the first tranche! He wants to give us all money for nothing (which our children will pay off) instead of taking time to create a plan which will have a long term benefit to the economy and all of us.

  • Comment removed

  • to mikeem60 the current scare mongering in the media from malcom turnbull would have us all believe that 200 billion in debt would be immediate but if that is what it takes to save jobs bring it on. failing that lets reinstate mr howard

  • I must be missing something, how does a 42billion dollar package equate to 200billion in debt

  • If I had a choice of investing my money with a man who has proven track record or the blithering idiots whose only economic experience is balancing their personal cheque books, I know where I would put it. Swan is a cretin and Rudd an arrogant buffoon. It is unfortunate that there are so many Australians who cannot set aside their bigotry in the interests of the country. Their actions are going to see us all starve.

  • I cannot believe that there are still halfwits out there who cannot set aside their tall poppy prejudices and listen to the message. Our country is being destroyed by the three stooges, Rudd, Swan and Stevens with their Machiavellian leadership. We watched the US systematically destroyed by the same blundering buffoonery and yet the only thing that you fools can see is that Turnbull busted his balls and made a success of his life. Wake up before we all starve.

  • all this coming from a man who in the past has payed thousands of dollars [of tax payers money ] to his wife to spend a few nights in her apartment in Canberra .don't know if he still does but come on how can you take him seriously .

the chaser war on everything told me.

  • Hmm, don't you think Australians were sick and tired of smug liberals masturbating over their surplus while the country crumbled away????

I generally think $10bn might have been better spent on initiatives like solar manufacturing and training to kickstart that industry and make it a competitive consumer item, and feel that Rudd is firing bullets into the air to some extent.

This is where your focus should fall, although your "credentials" as an ex environment minister are hardly inspiring.

  • You seem to lack vision. You'll lose the next election.

  • Too suggest the last packae didn't work is lacking in genuine evidence. I live in a coastal town that saw record holiday crowds over Xmas. i reckon' I know where a lot of the money went! Wake up Malcolm in the middle!

  • What a 'Merchant Banker'!

  • Good on you Malcolm, Treasury reports that the situation is far worse than thought. And they say there is a case for immediate Govt spending. Look it up Ken Henery head if Treasury. Get off your Pollitical Grandstand and get on board. Next time you post a video move away from the Aussie flag. Your Un-Australian.

  • Yeh Malcolm you just want a bigger cut for your end of town well guess what Rudd is the PM and if he does a bad job he will be voted out. Until then butt out.

  • Man just been down the Pub, wow Turnbull is going the way of Huson and his GST, Howard and his Iraq War. Man if he could hear what was said he would never be seen in the street again.

  • Ok Mr. Turnbull, so if you don't like the Stimulus plan, can you make up a better one? If not, and you won't support Rudd's stimulus package, you are a let down to Australia, and should be ashamed of yourself.

You and the Liberal Party are letting down Australian politics and the nation.

To get through this financial crisis, WE ALL need to WORK TOGETHER!

  • I admire this guy for standing up.

This stimulus will increase inflation and land australia in a large debt. Its a way for Rudd to get the people to like him.

The US is printing off money and as a result are lowering the value of their dollar....i dont want to see that happening here.

Seems rather irresponsible just handing out money

  • tunbull you're a turncoat.. our generation is smarter and we will NOT fall for your shallow reasons.. Its is the people like you and your bank execs who will get the most out of tax cuts.. not the average family like us.. and then 5 - 10 yrs down the line when you have raped the tax system we are the ones who will have poor education and environmental facilities..

but you will be laughing with the lower tax?? Piss off we will not be conned by your own self serving interests.

  • I am thinking of rounding up a heap of people for a Pollitical wake for Malcolm at the Tea Gardens Hotel Bondi Junction Oppotsite his office.

  • this is the last nail in the country called Australias coffin. More debt to get out of debt. Its a FRAUD.

You better realize that there is no debt. The Government owes US, The people. Money is a FICTION that is used to deceive us of our own property. The lawyers are the Gatekeeprs.

  • Turnbull stands alone on Rudds Package. W.A Lib Premier, IMF, OECD, Almost every Economist of note. Turnbull was lagging in the Polls after the last package. How does he turn it around, by putting the country at further risk. He wants the 2010 Tax cuts brought in. Those Tax cuts favor the fat cats and Bankers that started the crisis. Turnbull was one of them (Banker). Under Turnbulls plan we all lose jobs and homes while he sits in Vaucluse drinking Chardonay. NO $3500 bonus for the rich Malcolm

  • Its Ok For him he has his job to 2010 election as does his back bencher puppets going Oh Ah and nodding off. Stop Politicing Malcolm and get on with the job. We all know your way behind in the Polls find a better way to be seen. And next time you see your Fat Cat Banker mates ask them to hand over thier multi million Dollar packages. They do not deserve them. Gaol the slackers and greedy turds. God that girl got 3 months Gaol for Graffiti but stuff a country and you get a bonus, if a Banker.

  • You want to take this money from low income families and give it as tax cuts to your rich mates.

  • rofl i love the people commenting here. pillars of intelligence! you hilarious, retarded dirty apes.

  • Fuck off Turdball! If it was up to you it would all be given to private schools and your doctor / lawyer mates. You are a deadset SCUMBAG!!!!!!

  • kevin rudd rocks

  • you are going to get smashed, Turnbull & i just hope i'm there to see it.

    SMASHED I tells ya!

  • Channel page: 12 friends. 'Nuff said.

  • Old Millionaire Mal with his snout & both front trotters in the trough but still trying to riff off the poorest people in the land after years & years of handouts to the rich, typical scumbag banker that cause`s all the problems then wants the govenment to bail them out all the while with his millions & millions.what a low life.

  • Thank God that there is at least one politician left with a moral conscience who won't be swayed by petty ideology. Thank God for Malcolm Turnbull.

  • Labors in. Guess what, back to deficit, unemployment and bankruptcies.

  • Yeah, and it has nothing to do with what is happening outside our country does it? Or what Labor was left with when they took office?

  • Come to my channel for Peter Costello videos!

  • Unfortunately, Turnbull stands alone in rejecting this package. OECD, IMF, W.A Lib Premier. Turnbulls answer was to bring forward Tax Cuts that favor the Big end of town. People like Bankers who caused the problems in the first place. These fat cats (GREEDY). deserve nothing short of having thier $50,000,000 pay deals removed and given to those who they sent to the wall. Howard had years to fix the housing crisis. Part of it is the Libs fault. Now he wants to block the fix standing alone on that

  • Howard Turnbull Costello stood by while Banks were so fiscally inept they lent money for homes that just were not worth the money payed. Susequently rents went through the roof as rentors had to pay more for property. The Libs are as guilty as the Fat Cat Bankers. Now Malcolm wants to give these Fat Cats huge Tax cuts that will go into the bank and not get spent. Kisten to the OECD and IMF. not a Pollitician floundering in the Polls despairate for someone to listen. Gaol the Bankers no "Tax cut"

  • Really I am so ashamed of Rudd and Swan because what they are doing is letting the private central bankers win by getting us into debt with them. They are either blind or just plain evil.

  • I think it is pretty clear now what is going on. I was trying to warn people in late '07 about the elite banksters planing to play the 'left' side of the field. Well they, the private owners of the central banks have intentionally caused this crisis and positioned the politicians in power like Obama and Rudd who have the ideological bend that will provide on outcome to this crisis that will best suit the perpetrators. This is why Rudd just does the same as Obama, who does the same as Bush.

  • OOPS!! I meant to say Australian Federal Reserve Bank.

  • Fullyagree easydollars. WE and I mean YOU and ME have supposedly done this to ourselves by accruing too much debt. Naughty stupid useless eaters. Now the best way out is for us to borrow and spend more to 'stimulate' the economy. Ask a Yr. 7 kid about this and they will tell you it's bullshit. Who are WE borrowing this money from? I would think most people reading these comments would know the answer to that. The AFS. Private bankers no different form the US FED. It's all coming unstuck. UCC yes!

  • Labour and Liberal are all the same. We are using debt notes. Rudd is doing the Bush by pushing us into total bankruptcy. You better file a ucc 1 now and protect yourself from these bastards. Politicians are front men for the NWO.

  • Both parties might be bad for accepting the debt based money system, just that Labor are twice as bad as Liberal. Remember it was Costello who took the regulatory authority away from the RBA for mortgage lenders, which they strongly opposed (gee I wonder why) and advised the Federal Reserve to do the same. But of course then the private Fed could not have cased this problem in the first place, so no they rejected our model which has saved us from the road the USA is on - a depression.

  • Whats happening is, we are keeping our status quo with the yanky dollar .

We would become a super power (economic wise) if we didn'nt go into debt .

Yanks don't want that .(our dollar greater than theirs)

At least he spent it on infratructure and Aussies rather on war.

Bit wimpish , but thats humanity as it is now .

  • Nice speech coming from an ex-banker. You Sir, are a fraud and a disgrace to Australia. You sir, are a supportive accessory to linking MY, no, OUR Australia so indissolubly to the world financially, that your fellow countrymen suffer for the greed of unimpeachable and faceless parasites - these merchants of misery: bleeders of hope! You sir, with your smooth calculating facade, are an accessory to applying a most burdonsome yoke upon our posterity.

Let us see your integrity by your actions.

  • Really need those $950, don't we?..

  • I think the so called "stimulus" payment is nothing more than a bribe. How is someone buying an iPod going to help the country?

If the government has an irresistible urge to spend our money then why can't they do something with it that will be of lasting benefit the country?

In my view we should save the money and not make things worse by getting into debt.

  • Well something has to be done. Open borders has caused three quarters of the chaos, and has the potential to cause a lot more. Constant washing of cultures is degrading every standard of living.

  • Spending money on school buildings wont help, its the PC of not allowing teachers the use of proper discipline, and not having respect for the teachers that's the biggest problem.

My analogy of the economic situation as I see it - who would you want at the scene if you were in a serious accident, some hopeless clumsy dropout with a track record of stuffing up everything they touch or an experienced Emergency doctor ?

  • Get rid of all the traitors. Current leaders are a scam ,and a sham! Stay out of any unions, close all borders. Reverse the 'chaos' they have caused.

  • Reverse the chaos by closing the borders? Like North Korea? Hmm...

  • Yes, $200 billion IS too much debt and to think that it represents $9,500 debt for EVERY Australian and for the future taxpayers to pay off.

  • Mmm I don't see any party period solving this.

  • Ha, 12 views!

I get more views uploading a still picture of Adolf Hitler

  • That was the best thing i have heard all year. but it wont happen

  • Well done, Malcolm

    Thank heavens for the Liberals
