@puppett11 cute!! I was thinking about what you said and was wondering how my comment could offend you? I mean we are talking about a boss that uses an elevator so he can hit superman!! hahahalmao!!!! then it hit met " YOUTUBE FIGHTRTER"
I remember playing this as a kid !! I totally 4got about this until I came across it on here ! Thanx 4 putting this up ! Did you run this through a mame emulator ?
The music definetely makes this game. I remember how excited I got as a 9 year old when I put in a quarter and hit the start button, here the music and see Clark turn into Superman.
80's arcade gaming was so damn playable and easy on the eyes, but then the 90's came for arcade gaming and it all turned to shit because the explosions became overkill & the graphics over the top which resulted in visual feast minus the gameplay. 90's gaming in the home however was fantastic!
@egg64 That's because a Talented Japanese Company did the game. Trust me, dude. Talented Japanese developers like Taito, Data East, Konami, Capcom, SNK and Sega are the best when it comes to making videogames based off of American cartoon, movie, toy, and comic book franchises.
Man, this game brings back some good memories from my childhood. I remember playing this game with some buddies of mine at a local arcade, when those still existed. I remember playing this and another game that was a submarine simulator that actually had a periscope you could look through and used to fire torpedoes and stuff. Does anybody remember that game or have the name of it per chance? I've been trying to find out what it was called for years with no luck. Any help I would appreciate.
This is another good ending of an arcade game! This would have been great for Superman III as a final confrontation scene where Superman enters the villians hideout!
I know, when I first got my mame emulator I was like "ITS A FREE QUARTER!" and could not stop pushing the credit button. I love this game. I love mame! I love emulators! I even got the X-Arcade joystick for the real arcade feel......hehe MAME RULEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
Ha ha! What I like to do is to put the difficulty to the highest and configurate the controls so I can move two-three-four characters at once! Works especially well with multiplayer Konami games! Xmen with all 6 players controlled by me!
@randyland1987 Gotta download the free MAME first, unzip it and the "blue/white square" will be the MAME file that you'll mainly use. Then d/l the Superman game by dragging the file directly onto the MAME one.
For both of those + a shiftful of free 80s and 90s arcade and older console games, it's best to go to romnation(dot)net.
Careful, brother, once you download MAME, you won't stop playing!
@Neville6000 Yeah, even myself I tried to download it for somebody else recently, I guess that method doesn't work anymore, it's been so long since I played MAME games. There were many new versions.
Maybe here on YT, there are videos showing how to download it?
While this game does take its creative license, namely the energy balls which I think is suppose to be a sonic boom, its the best Superman game. Superman 1st and foremost is the protector of Earth and this game very much has him in that role, fighting an alien invasion around the world. Also we have enemies who should actually be able to hurt him since its Superman enemies are either equal or rival him. It's a lot better then Supes being hurt by bullets and chainsaws, like other Superman games.
well its a lot better than the NES ending. Never saw Superman throw energy balls unless you count Last Son of Kryton. maybe these guys saw Superman IV and saw how many liberties they took with his powers (restructo vision?)and said "what the hell?"
come to think of it. Alot of these levels are redone with other characters in the Death and Return of Superman. That games probably the closest to an arcade beat em up on a console that Superman's seen
I know, what's wrong with heat vision? or Ice breath, mabye a sonic thunderclap? that would be so cool! Superman's punch colliding with a bosses punch that creats a sonic thunderclap so loud it shatters the bosses skin and causes the building to errupt
There was some other girls besides the bunny suited ones on here that dress like the 50's Catwoman. The one with the cape. Well, this Superman game is much better than the ones that is out there. Why? Well because the game shows alot of stuff that Superman would do on his tone down level. It sucks how the new games make him god like. Except for Mortal Kombat vs DC. Superman 1988 on the arcade tops all new Superman games anyday.
Dude awsome game I remember reading about this on a magazine called Top Kids that came out around the same time as Mortal Kombat and this was still a classic. The plot of the game was from before Zero-Hour when Superman was top-notch Smoooooth
This is a licensed character game, so that's just not going to happen. The Chariots Of Fire song in Track And Field was removed from the Konami Arcade Collection on the Game Boy DS. This game may have to be and unlockable feature in the next Superman game released. Or maybe XBox Live Arcade, or Playstation Network. You can always download M.A.M.E. and download the Superman arcade game rom.
@MysticArksRevenge Not necessarily. Here's at least one example. The original Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return Of The Jedi arcade games were developed and published by Atari Inc. All three games are unlockable in Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike for the Nintendo GameCube, which was developed by Factor 5 and published by LucasArts.
@bildo1977 Ah. Well if that certain developer can get the rights from Taito to put the original Superman arcade game onto a new Superman game, then you've got it made! :D
yup....i used to play it at my local video store when i was 10....i remember asking my dad quarters to play this game...it was the shit back then!!!! lol
Go to pugsy's cheats page (linked off of mameworld(.)net) and copy it to your mame directory. In game, go to the tab menu and select cheats (hit enter). Once there, you should see the cheat for unlimited super punches (or sonic punches or whatever it's called) and turn it on or "set" it. It's really easy to do.
Now that is an arcade game that I want to have in my house someday! That is the decent arcade game especially with the Christopher Reeve tumes from the Reeve films! They should have done a video game of Superman featuring Reeve as Superman and he throws puches and kicks just like this masterpiece video game!
I remember this game! I managed to beat it on one quarter without any codes. The trick is to continually charge your fist with every step quickly, release full blast, then charge again while moving forward. It took a while but it worked.
I remeber playing that when I was 3 years old. It was in Rye Playland and I was very excited playing it. But I was sad that it's not there anymore. But thank you youtube.
Seems like whoever's playing has some kind of code that lets them shoot the energy beams without charging the punch... but still, great to see this on youtube.. I own one of the arcade machines, and I love it!
Superman firing energy beams from his hands and fighting yellow jump suit guys, pink bunny women, weird spider monsters, and Hulk-like creatures. A gun-toting cyberpunk Batman. DC comics video games of the late 80's/early 90's were on acid. Wish it was still that way.
it's funny. this was made 6 years before the "death of superman" angle. which is when they added those variants of superman. and originally, the red superman wasn't going to be player 2's character. the second player was going to be a female (probably supergirl).
Nice ending.
