Hi! I was checking out some Canon EOS 500D because I have to do a little video project and I will probably shoot it with this camera. How did you get the trembling effect at 02:32 ? I assume it was done during the editing. Thanks for the useful material.
@marchez87 Hey, no this effect is from the footage. I shot the video with a 70-300 mm lens. and i tried filming in the marco range, so i hab to adjust the lens to 300 mm. And only because of starting recording the camera shaked a tiny little bit, but you can see this on the footage. No editing, just bad cut :-) but a got better :-)
@gunth23 Thank you for clearing that for me. I would never tell, you worked that out very well with the editing. I got old of the camera and shooting some tests using the standard 18-55mm lens. I noticed that bright colours, especially when out of focus, produce quite a strong chroma noise (i'm not sure what's it called actually) which is rather annoying. I didn't notice that in your video, do you think it might be due to the lens or just settings and light conditions?
@marchez87 Hmmm, thats a good question^^ I think it depense on the lens. Because if read different lens tests there different results on that. And the word for it is, i guess is chromatic abberation. The colours are seperating. a red or blue edge. I hope thats what you mean. If it is so, than the lens is the key to it.

I noticed that the camera produes H264 video files, did you convert them to a better format (i.e. better quality) before the editing? Also, is it necessary to de-interlace the videos? @marchez87 Hey, thats the only thing that borders me on the 500D. The Video mode is very automatic. You cant change the blend, iso or shutterspeed. At least you have an influence on blend if you use an old lens that has a blendring. But than you need a converter. I use a M42 converter. I never convert the videoformat before editing. After im done i convert the video in H264 (mp4). And every mode (720p, 1080p) is shot in progressive. As the name p tells you.

@DillA380pilot Don´t know where you heard that, but it depends on how much capacity your memory card has. I´m working with a 16 GB card, and i never filmed so much that it stopped. 30 min long no problem.

@doubleVISION666 Ok, it depends on. If you mostly make photos you should buy the 500D. its cheaper and it makes great Photos. And for myself 15 megapixels are enough. But if you also really wanna use it for good movies you buy the 550D. Cause of the framerate. But im still hoping that there will be an Firmware update for the 500D. But you´ll never know when this is going to be released.
@s3v3ns0rr0w21 Yes its a great Idea!! I own it too. Great Lens. Not the best habtic, but it makes great photos and its cheap. You´ll never go wrong with that.

everything was good except for cancer stick lol.. you got this beautiful nature going and then i am looking at the opposite of healthy environment.. cigarettes.. doesn't go there. I did however love the quality of your video, the music as well as smoothness of your colors.. very professional!

@Kanokon Well, i have this Camera now for about 1 year, and i´m very happy with it. But you should bye instead the EOS 550D. Its better because it can be used completely in manual mode. Also in the movie mode its complete manual. And the fps are better. 1080p 24,30 fps and 720p 60, 50 fps. With the card i cant help you. but i think i will work. The format is mov. And the Song is from Devotcha - The winner is. Hope i could help you.
@Dreadfultime Of course you can use it completely manual but just in the photomode. if you make a movie with it, the camera will always correct the light by itself. and thats the only thing i dont really like.

Hi what memory card so you use for the video? I'm using a sandisk 15mb/s 2gb and my videos come out really choppy. I noticed the manual said 'class 6' or higher, so do you know the difference? Thanks, great video :)
Well, you have to know that its still a Dslr, aKamera for photos. Focus is oing a good job. but its not tha fastest and i prefer the manuelle option. You can make a quick focus at the beginning of the clip but maybe the best way for you to find out is going to a store and test it. than you can say you like or not.
well the diffrence between the 500D and 7D at first place is the price:-) the diffence between the video modes is that the 500D captures Full hd in 20 frames per second and the 7D in 30 fps. and the 7D has more mp. the also makes the quality a bit better. The 5D mark II makes the best videos. They look amazing, Full HD 30 fps and fullformat-sensor. But the 500D makes an incredible job, and for now it is enough (for me):-)
there are different lenses to buy for this camera, so you would need to buy a macro lens of some sort. or you can buy an add on lens that attaches to the end of a 18-55mm kit lens (they're cheaper--cost around $40, so the quality is worse...but it's very good for starters)

i am going to get a 500d. i have studied Canon 500d and the Nikon d5000 specifications. i got two main things
1. the kit lenses on canon are better quality than nikon
2. the video capture function on canon is limited just by SDHC card size while on the nikon the video capture is limited to 5 minutes or 2 GB.
3. the bad thing is canon captures videos in .mov format while nikon does .avi. in this case nikon would be better because it will be easier to import.
Im currently trying to decide whether to get a Nikon D5000 or Canon EOS 500D. I dont know if you know much about the Nikon, but are there any limmitations you have found with the Canon DSLR? Thanks
yes, but with the kit-lens you hear it on the video. the problem is that the mirco is next to the lens, and you cant use a external mircophone. i use the manuelle focus. with a little practice it works pretty fine.
Well i use the canon EF 28-135 mm 1:3,5-5,6 usm is. The usm is very quite and fast. the IS works also very good. it costs 407 $ at amazon. But if you want more zoom and more wide-angle you should take the EF 18-200 mm 1:3,5-5,6 is but it has no usm and it costs 579$. so its your dessicion. hope i could help you.
2nd, no i have used the tamron lens 70-300 mm. it was from a friend. i dont owe this. know i´m allways useing the canon ef 28-135 is usm. great lens. with macro.
Sieht jedenfalls sehr gut aus. Ich hab die Kamera auch, muss nur noch Gelegenheiten finden sie auszuprobieren. Bzw. bin ich mit der Kitlens relativ eingeschraenkt was beeindruckende Bilder angeht.
ah ok. ich habe mir auf ebay das EF 28-135 mm is usm ersteigert. ein sehr nettes allround objektiv. gelingen sehr toll ebilder damit. so als kleiner tipp:-)
I alos just got one, but I'm disappointed, with the auto focus. It's just sooo loud and annoying on the video. wondering if the nikon d90 is having the same problem.
thanx for your comment. Yes the auto focus is a problem. but i think with the D90 its the same. the microphone is the problem. i just use the manuelle focus. it works pretty well.

Trust me when I say , go for the 550d if you want good video , You can shoot at much higher frame rates on the 550d and in true film framerate 24fps

Well i use the canon EF 28-135 mm 1:3,5-5,6 usm is. The usm is very quite and fast. the IS works also very good. it costs 407 $ at amazon. But if you want more zoom and more wide-angle you should take the EF 18-200 mm 1:3,5-5,6 is but it has no usm and it costs 579$. so its your dessicion. hope i could help you.

2nd, no i have used the tamron lens 70-300 mm. it was from a friend. i dont owe this. know i´m allways useing the canon ef 28-135 is usm. great lens. with macro.

Sieht jedenfalls sehr gut aus. Ich hab die Kamera auch, muss nur noch Gelegenheiten finden sie auszuprobieren. Bzw. bin ich mit der Kitlens relativ eingeschraenkt was beeindruckende Bilder angeht.

ah ok. ich habe mir auf ebay das EF 28-135 mm is usm ersteigert. ein sehr nettes allround objektiv. gelingen sehr toll ebilder damit. so als kleiner tipp:-)

I bought that camera yesterday .. I love it ! Nice video! what program do you use ? cause windows movie maker is not working on these videos ..

I used adobe premiere pro. but you also can use magix. but i dont know the name of the programm.
so have fun with the camera:-)

And when you take a photo while recording. Can you choose 12mp(jpeg+raw) ? and the format ? 3:2, 16:9 ?

I alos just got one, but I'm disappointed, with the auto focus. It's just sooo loud and annoying on the video. wondering if the nikon d90 is having the same problem.

thanx for your comment. Yes the auto focus is a problem. but i think with the D90 its the same. the microphone is the problem. i just use the manuelle focus. it works pretty well.
