@camilo06: Do not forget?? It seems you have forgotten there was another pilot in that cockpit. If an airport and roadway should be renamed, then name it for Sullenberger AND [Jeff] Skiles, both of whom were instrumental in landing that crippled aircraft.
Sullenberger is so ABOVE this GARBAGE from CBS, and the media whore Katie Couric. I'm watching the interview and she desperately tries to get emotional heart tugging quotes out of Sullenberger and he is a complete professional, and stoic the core. He doesn't have a single dramatic, self-aggrandizing bone in his body, and Couric disgusting tried to get it out of him. She definitely is getting her fill of juicy quotes from the blonde flight attendant however. Kudos to Sullenberger.

Fantastic job CBS. We all need stories of HOPE. What a miracle to happen in NYC Hudson River, right over the George Washington Bridge. Thank you for the wonderful folks like the trained pilot and copilots. Keeping one's cool under stress, yes, I believe that the pilot was correct, many passengers were praying all in union for a miracle. Our Loving Source was in the Pilot's seat, beaming down his energy to keep all on that flight calm and able to unite together in helping one another.
I think the media has a very narrow minded view on professional pilots and these situations. They consistently seemed "shocked" by this amazing accident and the flight crew involved...
This story would not have been so big, and Sully wouldn't be so famous IF people could get the "big plane= big coffin" out of their mind. Not every plane crash is caused by the pilot screaming as the plane "drops" from the sky.
Congratulations to ALL the flight crew and rescuers that day. Great job.
The story has been overblown by the media. But they are professional and did what they had to do. The entire accident has everything perfect: Perfect crew, most passengers were calm (except someone in the back who kept opening the door and letting the water come in, & some people swimmed from fear the plane could explode - they watch too much TV), perfect weather, empty river, quick response from the boats.
It is worth blowing the story when we all need a nice story in this horrible economy 5/5
I get where you're coming from and I agree. Airline pilots are nothing but professional!
The media does its job, and its job is to sensationalize everything; this is what sells and pumps ratings.
On the other hand, all this attention and hype is good for Americans. America is looking for something positive to latch onto and the "Miracle on the Hudson" is their cure.
It's just naive and narrow minded to talk about "The Media" as if it were some cohesive body comprised of people who are different-in-kind from you and I.
You wrote something about a news story. I sat here and read it. YOU acted as a journalist. YOU are in The Media.
Couric and the other guy in this video and you are just people. People with the means of mass communication.
But since we've gotten ourselves here, I'd say that since the media is so dependent upon other peoples' opinion on what they are reporting, especially in primetime and especially in the Western world, it can become questionable as to whether or not they're reporting on news, or whether or not they're just trying to make a bunch of noise to cobble together ratings. I believe they're the latter, as proven by shit they dub "celebrity news."
i'm really starting to despise these stupid moron's on these shows...if a pilot reacted like they think he should have then this person should not be flying...but he's a professional and he doesn't do this. these over analytical idiots should be limited to their tv time and story coverage
Read somewhere? READ somewhere!!??!! Quote your sources, kbbcoop, or else we are left with your own feverishly putrid point of view as of your OWN making...... dumb#*@*!!!
My guilty passion has always been plane crash investigations but this incidence showed me that I can be equally fascinated by tales of survival and heroism. Since this happened I've been a total Sullaholic, searching for anything newsworthy regarding this brilliant pilot.
Now this man, Sullenberger, and his crew; they're TRUE heroes. Society should aspire to these role models with their professionalism and achievements in life. Maybe a little less labeling sports figures or celebrities as such, and focus on the REAL kind of heroes instead. The pilot, crew and emergency task force of Flight 1549 should be cherished. I thank God for people/ citizens like them.
God it's sickening to see Katie Couric covering this. Anyone but her, PLEASE.

think about the weight of the plane at that moment. it is full. and heavy. so the landing must be very very skillful

What? Landing a plane with both engines out in a river and having NO ONE die isn't a big story.
You're an idiot pal.

That was not my point. I never said that, mijreed.
No reason to call me an idiot when you can't even comprehend what I'm trying to say.

courage is a fundamental part of piloting. panic is disasterous in such moments. experience is vital in such circumstances.
