It wasn't the people of Venezeuela who restored Chavez to power - it was certain generals in the army. And the main guy was forced into retirement and spoke harshly against Chavez later on. WHile people of Venezuela might have supported Chavez back then, it is very unclear if they support him now. However, with people Chavez or mullahs in Iran, once the people give them power, they rarely give it back voluntarily.

This is a good move, now Russia must slowly but steadily fund and support South American nations. I think this approach provides a good balance with the USA and NATO coming closer to Russian borders. Russia must restart Cuban dialogue and help them towards better development and of course funding the Cubans. I wonder how long Castro will survive? Maybe 2-3 years more, so it's time for Russia!
