Finally a game that's actually scary unlike that pathetic dead space game that fails to grasp the point of atmospheric pacing and has you yelling come at me bro because of your ridiculously overpowered weapons.
This game scares the shit out of me... Screw "scary" games like DooM 3, RE4, etc....
This game makes you scared most of the time though sheer dread of what might come ahead around a dark-ass corner that you can barely make out with your puny lantern. So far the only game that came close to this level of actual scariness when you play has been Dead Space 1 and 2. Holy bejeeebez.

I'm now at the part where there's something in the water and kills you. that scared me the first time (scared me a lot). But the overall vibe of the game is just,.. creepy, even if there is nothing happening.
Played the trial on OnLive. Scared the crap out of me. I was too afraid to move out of a room I was in because I was hearing sounds. I'm planning on buying it when I get a new graphics card.

Got the game on steam today. I am loving it. When you said "Welcome back, Survival Horror Game. We missed you", I felt the same. For so long have we been given cheap tricks passed as Horror. This game is a dream come true for me.
This game is an asshole. Never enough oil for my lantern. Never enough of those thingies you use to light the candles n stuff. And that bastard monster in the water eating me whenever I fall in the water. I just wanted to explore the castle, but no, some douchebag monster has to come and try to rape me. So what do I do? I try to hide like I'm supposed to. I turn off the lantern. Then WHAT THE FUCK!? The monster comes at me anyway.
This game should never be played under any circumstances.
I love the amount off ppl who are like "no guns, hiding in the dark, how shit" ppft, bet half of them would be knee deep in bum guff and out the door after an hour playin this beast.

This game really shows how bad most modern horror is. The most scary parts in most movies are the ones that make you jump out of surprise. This on the other hand messes with your mental well-being. 5/5 please continue to bring horror back.

See this is what I love about these kinds of horror games. They make you feel paranoid as you go through the castle. Even when you know a monster isn't there you still hide in fear thinking that one may appear once you leave. You have no weapons and therefore noway to defend yourself which just enhances the experience.

@novado123 I agree, when i first saw one of those bastards, I charged at it with a chair. It undoubtedly failed. I mean this guy, Daniel is going down there to kill baron Fuckface, and after all the monsters he doesn't assume that they got to him first? Also Daniel is somehow able to fix an elevator and perform alchemy, but isn't able to put a knife on a stick (i found a shovel, pickaxe, scissors too)? Heck what harm is the baron gonna do if you have to blow up a few rockfalls to get to him?
@TheBladeEdge In one of the journal entries Daniel tells himself the monster is unstoppable and that he tried everything to stop it. You may have played through the game but you probably didn't pay much attention to the story at all. Now go back to Call of Duty.
@SpecialMayonaise I'm having the same problem right now, I don't have the nerve to play anything with monsters moving fast and jumping at me etc, I also suck at puzzles, so combine the 2 together and I'm 100% doomed in this game .. But still, I really want to experience some actual fear since I have yet to find a movie that could actually make me feel fear! Almost all of them are just about shocking you, I don't even get shocked anymore because I always know when they are gonna try to in movies.

@SpecialMayonaise I can tell you right now nothing jumps out at you. The thing that really gets you scared is when you hear the monsters groans and footsteps and then down a long dark hallway you will see the monster itself. This game makes you paranoid to a point that even when you known it's safe to leave you still don't. If you can get through the entire game then you have conquer darkness itself.
first night on the game. . . I left the game sweating and my heart pounding, and I had someone to talk to who was watching my gameplay with me. And I'm pretty sure I got to that water section he was talking about that made him scared to be in the water. . . I had to stop for the night.
I found Doom 3 to be scarier...honestly :/ Of course I have only played a few moments of this game, my friend went through the entire game in less than 24 hours (there was still time for dinner according to him). He said it wasn't that scary, just stupid he didn't have any weapons...
@TheJockman117 It happens sometimes that people don't get the immersion out of games like this, if you don't get immersed then the scary factor drops a mile. Also if you added weapons, this game would barely be scary because you would have a way to fight back instead of run and hide (which is much scarier).
I think of the game as the ultimate storybook. It keeps you glued to your seat with the interesting story, and it also keeps you on the edge of your seat with the intense horror. My rating of the game: 9/10.
ive watched a lets play of this game and oh my god its fucking intense and scary as shit...through the whole thing accept for the peaceful parts im on edge...the gatherers are creepy as fuck and the music in this game i love it its so fucking creepy and fits the atmosphere perfectly
It's odd, I'm not trying to brag here, But for some reason I'm 11 and I'm not scared of it anymore. I was 10 when it came out and THAT'S only when it scared me. But it just doesn't work on me anymore. Hope that they come out with more games like this. Gotta love horror.

Of all the games I've played, only the original FEAR compares to the this game. And, unfortunately for FEAR, it doesn't stack up favorably.

@novado123 I agree, when i first saw one of those bastards, I charged at it with a chair. It undoubtedly failed. I mean this guy, Daniel is going down there to kill baron Fuckface, and after all the monsters he doesn't assume that they got to him first? Also Daniel is somehow able to fix an elevator and perform alchemy, but isn't able to put a knife on a stick (i found a shovel, pickaxe, scissors too)? Heck what harm is the baron gonna do if you have to blow up a few rockfalls to get to him?

@TheBladeEdge In one of the journal entries Daniel tells himself the monster is unstoppable and that he tried everything to stop it. You may have played through the game but you probably didn't pay much attention to the story at all. Now go back to Call of Duty.

@SpecialMayonaise I'm having the same problem right now, I don't have the nerve to play anything with monsters moving fast and jumping at me etc, I also suck at puzzles, so combine the 2 together and I'm 100% doomed in this game .. But still, I really want to experience some actual fear since I have yet to find a movie that could actually make me feel fear! Almost all of them are just about shocking you, I don't even get shocked anymore because I always know when they are gonna try to in movies.

Im kinda good at puzzles. Id buy it :D

But I would be more than happy to watch some1 else play them instead of me :D ...
I grabbed L4D 1 & 2, the fact that they can be played co op with actual human players was the selling point xD I'm probably gonna regret this decision later on lol..

@SpecialMayonaise I can tell you right now nothing jumps out at you. The thing that really gets you scared is when you hear the monsters groans and footsteps and then down a long dark hallway you will see the monster itself. This game makes you paranoid to a point that even when you known it's safe to leave you still don't. If you can get through the entire game then you have conquer darkness itself.

first night on the game. . . I left the game sweating and my heart pounding, and I had someone to talk to who was watching my gameplay with me. And I'm pretty sure I got to that water section he was talking about that made him scared to be in the water. . . I had to stop for the night.

I found Doom 3 to be scarier...honestly :/ Of course I have only played a few moments of this game, my friend went through the entire game in less than 24 hours (there was still time for dinner according to him). He said it wasn't that scary, just stupid he didn't have any weapons...

@TheJockman117 It happens sometimes that people don't get the immersion out of games like this, if you don't get immersed then the scary factor drops a mile. Also if you added weapons, this game would barely be scary because you would have a way to fight back instead of run and hide (which is much scarier).

I think of the game as the ultimate storybook. It keeps you glued to your seat with the interesting story, and it also keeps you on the edge of your seat with the intense horror. My rating of the game: 9/10.

ive watched a lets play of this game and oh my god its fucking intense and scary as shit...through the whole thing accept for the peaceful parts im on edge...the gatherers are creepy as fuck and the music in this game i love it its so fucking creepy and fits the atmosphere perfectly

It's odd, I'm not trying to brag here, But for some reason I'm 11 and I'm not scared of it anymore. I was 10 when it came out and THAT'S only when it scared me. But it just doesn't work on me anymore. Hope that they come out with more games like this. Gotta love horror.
