  • thanks for the video

  • cool

  • NOT boring....thanks a lot John, these video's are great.

  • how much to resurface a mitsubish lancer flywheel?

  • @coolguyvictor - I've stopped giving quotes via the internet, just call me - it will take less time then sitting here typing out a response to question. I hate this kind of personal action. Text - internet the both suck when it comes to discussing something.

  • Why can i watch this over and over. its like therapy

  • satisfied with the results? was that your flywheel or your the one with the machine ?

  • Man... it's been a while since I had this done. They used to charge $10 for a rotor and $30 for wheels. Just caledl the local shops and they all want at least $55. Guess I've had way to many automatics. Guess I could buy one of these and clean up on the market in my area. The closest machine shop is 15 miles a way. lol

  • is the flywheel fixtured by a bolt in the middle or a clamp?

  • Hi guys,

Anyone heard about 2 level resurfacing?

    I just don't get it >.<

Anyone can clarify this for me?

Putting aside the clutch, what else is spinning on the flywheel?

    Thanks

  • @thaik56 - One some flywheels the clutch cover doesn't set parallel or plat to the friction disc surface.

  • @fiatnutz

In my case, it seems the pressure plate (clutch cover, if I'm not wrong) only has one surface.

    It's a clutch for a Honda Civic 2004.

  • @thaik56 Take a look at a 3S-GTE flywheel for an example - many flywheels have the clutch bolted to a surface offset from the friction surface. In order to maintain the correct spring pressure from the pressure plate the bolt locations have to be skimmed down the same amount as the friction material. HTH

  • The setups abit out?

  • кривой маховик

  • Hi!First of all I want to give you my best regards for your videos!Secondly I would like to ask, how much wheight can you put out from a flywheel?Of course I understand that it depends on the purpose of proccesing the flywheel, and the characteristics of the flywheel. All I am asking is a general estimation for a street-used car?

  • No video from you is to boring to watch !

  • The music was the best part! XD

  • I've never actually seen this being done. Cheers for posting the vid.

  • hello do you guys do Duel mass flywheels re surfacing???if so how much????

  • Not boring at all, I love this stuff.

  • John...as you know I just subscribed to ya a few days ago and have reviewed your videos and the comments... you got some screwy comments from posters that are either out to get ya or don't know shit..bad for business..to tell ya straight up..delete those morons...your a real smart dude but, your allowing others to run your videos into the ground...dump their asses..

  • why do you need to do this? to make it look nice? or to make it flat if its warped?

  • @dnl5649 - We want the flywheel to be parallel to the crankshaft and get rid of hard spots - looking nice is just a by-product of the process.

  • @fiatnutz oh i understand, do i need to do this or is it an option?

  • @dnl5649 Imagine that you're trying to stop a ceiling fan with your hand. When you go to slow it down, you dont just jab your fist through, because that'd HURT. Instead, you let it slip-slide over your palm. If one fan blade hangs lower than the others though, its the only one you're going to touch. A cars clutch presses up against the flywheel, and will act much the same way as your palm to a fan. That's why you want the clutch and the flywheel to be as smooth as possible.

  • Ya when ever you change a clutch get the flywheel resurfaced...

  • whats the price range of doing a flywheel???

  • @AxSxKxONE $50-$60 for most flywheels

  • @AxSxKxONE Cost me 60 USD equiv to get a 2 level grind done, I'd expect about 40 for a single level fly.

  • how much you are grinding 0.0015

  • @Shazee083 - .015", move your decimal point over to the right one more place.

  • IS IT A GOOD IDEA TO TURN A FLYWHEEL?? im changing the clutch this weekend(actually a mechanic is) and the mechanic recomended turning the flywheel he has not started working on the car yet so we dont know the condition of flywheel. IS IT A BETTER IDEA TO RESURFACE?? many thanks if someone who knows can reply. thanks

  • YES

  • Is it usual for that much warpage? What sort of driveability problems, if any would you have?

  • oddly enough, i was at a shop today that was resurfacing a set of break rotors

  • We do a lot of brake rotors for race and performance cars too. Makes them nice the parallel and boy do they stop better, especially when we cryo them!

  • lol I just did mine and it was 40 bucks.

  • how much does that usually cost?

  • In the $50 range for standard flywheels, more for dual-mass flywheels.

  • damn that thing was warped

  • I use to turn flywheels in a lahte,

their is no need to grind it.

  • kids dont put your hands in a running cnc mashine

  • i had never seen that, sweet to know how that was done

  • I'll have to set up my angle grinder with a record player, and do that for my bimmer

  • So thats how its done.. Thanks man.

  • impressive

  • WOW! Why don´t you do that on the lathe?

Thanks a lot for the vids.

Gotta love to work with you.

  • hot spots and harder to set true on lathe

  • IS THAT URINE?????

  • Yes

  • Oh wow, does the acid help?

  • xD

That´s a cooling liquid. It can be green (line in cars) or white (like milk).

  • Oh is it like coolant?

    MMMM MILK!

  • what did ur brain fall out its cooling fluid duh

  • all you need to do is scrub the backside with a wire brush and it should sit flat and spin true on the table. acid dip is overkill. maybe half the flywheels i machined were a bit uneven, fuck knows why. i've always thought it was impossible to warp a cast iron flywheel, same with cast rotors. any uneven machining must purely be caused by uneven ware surface. and i have never been able to successfully machine a dual mass flywheel, there is a stainless solid replacement for most anyways.

  • theres a puller to pull the dowls out and that flywheel is stuffed lol shoulda used a dial guage mate u prob sent it out worse then it came in

  • autophyte u hit the nail,if u put flywheel in a lathe must put the dial indicator before and do it well, this is why the flywheels(bad grinded)comes to slip and vybrate.

  • Not wanting to' nit pick', but I'd be suspicious if one side of the flywheel seemed as high as that (you can see the stone start to grind a bit, then stop, as the other side of the flywheel comes around.) Might it be that there's a bit of dirt or a burr on the mounting face of the flywheel? I'd be inclined to take it off, check it and re-mount it before continuing. But I suppose you do check carefully, the surfaces to be clamped, before grinding.

  • Could be mounted wrong. I won't doubt that. But most shops I been around drop the parts in acid to clean them before machining. Other than that I think this was just a advertisement or such and he just threw a junk flywheel on there

  • no one at my job thinks a flywheel can be resurfaced, and i work at an autoparts store. they make fun of me because i went to school for automotive training at lincon tech. they pick at me because i get technical when i talk about stuff. now that i know i'm right, they will pick on me even more.

  • how do you do the side with the dowel pins?

  • Hey John great Vid! I learnt about "Dressing" bench grinder stones at collage. does this machine have to be "dressed" to keep it true? If so how on earth do you do it?

  • I don't know anything about it but i would guess it would not need to be dressed since the wear would be even.

  • nice !

  • Excellent!

  • How much to resuface a head and block

    (honda B18C1)

  • As much as it needs to be STRAIGHT. You might be talking about Head mill and block decking. Thants something else and you need to clay so you can know How much you can take off.

  • how much should it cost to resurface a flywheel?

  • cost me 65 for step type yesterday

  • We always have to use the brake lathe to do that where I go to school.

  • Is this to remove weight or just to resurface to make it flat? If it was to remove weight how much weight can it remove?

  • This machine is for resurfacing only. Depending upon the flywheel, I use a lathe to remove weight. Some flywheels have weight in specific locations that keep the engine balanced which cannot be removed.

  • Your never supposed to use a lathe to re-surface a fly-wheel. The lathe creates grooves on the fly-wheel like a record. Then the grooves wear down the cluth faster!

  • do u use the same machine for a two stage fywheel like dual mass flywheel?

  • dual mass flywheels cannot be machined

  • Provided the spring marcel is still serviceable and the flywheel is tight, yes I can resurface dual-mass flywheels with great success. Some that do come in are just dead and cannot be machined.

  • What is the reason for resurfacing a flywheel? So the starter wont grind?

  • For the clutch.

    Foxler, Furry Fandom

  • so the clutch can bite on a smooth surface

  • So its a even bite against the clutch.

  • the starter will grind because it uses the dents on the side of the flywheel but the problem is the pressure of the disc clutch on the flywheel .

if your flywheel is not perfectly flat the contact of the disc on the flywheel wil not be good and can cause sliding of one on the other and a lost of power on the wheels and a burn of clutch disc and flywheel and lot of shitty problems like this.

  • awesome

  • great vid im having my wheel done soon its interesting to see the process..
