Depends. On this one, I had my Boss VF-1 multi running before the amp- it can switch between instrument level and line level, so running it before made it a little simpler to hook up. All my pedal effects always go in front.
ok, that makes sense, Its one or the other though right? you can't have pedal chain and an effects loop can you? You have convinced me though that I NEED the six string bass.
Sure you can- nearly all pedals are meant to be run in front of an amp, and nearly all rack effects are meant to be run in your effects loop, and there's no issue with using both simultaneously (a lot of guitarists run through both simultaneously nearly all of the time).
Thats cool! You just gave me some ideas! That's good stuff to know. Thanks. I am in the process of upgrading gear, Just got a bunch of new EHX stuff. Great style in all your original stuff here.
Bryan, your sense of pure melodic ideas is second to none. Nothing crazy-fast or complicated, but the *perfect* phrase simply repeated in a different octave works so much better in a piece of music like this. It very much reminds me of Sean Malone's ("Gordian Knot") song "Grace", which is a Chapman Stick looped piece.
...plus, you might have just done a major part in curing my longstanding hatred of flanging. ;-)
I don't like flanger most of the time either :D I love phaser much more, but when you want that watery sound, flanger takes the cake. I never realized Grace was a Stick piece- I'll have to listen to it again (overplayed Emergent so much that I haven't listened to it in a couple years). Thanks for checking out this one as well :)
Just a big ol' Wow! that was really beautiful.

when you run effects do you chain in front of the amp or do you run through the amps loop?

Thanks a lot. I have a terrible knowledge of the fretboard- I need to get it in my head better to improve my solos. Workin' on it :)

Duude, that was brilliant.
After hearing the loop I was wondering how you were going to solo over that and you pulled it off so well. Great tone too!
