WRT160N unboxing, setup, and review

Ihave this router, it usually works pretty good. Set-up is not for thenovice. Adding in an extra charge ( over the already high price ) to keep the software to actually use it like it was meant to be used will cost another $40.00. Buyer beware. Thumbs down.

I use a linksys wrt 160n v3 and i try to play xbox live on this thing and it is absolutely horrible. I've done all the port forwarding, static ip, all the bs and nothing works. Sometimes the connection is good, then it just spikes up and down. Sometimes i run a red 1/4 latency bar consistently (like right now) so i can't stream my breaking bad and i'm very pissed. Fuck this pile of shit

Err... i just bought wrt160n the one you are using . but i cant configure it. Always after step 4. they will say Your new router does not appear to be connected properly. if you see this please help

@AKULA9586 possibly if your internet service provider does not have some sort of cap on their download speeds. Changing to wireless N might increase it.

@AKULA9586 You should try to plug in your computer directly into your modem. If you internet is still slow you have an internet issue. Little speed gain is normal because you are on wire instead of wireless. If you notice a big difference you have a router issue. Most in home routers start crashing after few years. Have you tried to vacuum your router. Dirty routers start devolping heat issues. Check firmware for router. Check wireless settings. Still have an issue i would try another router

Routers are almost always connected to a desktop that would be quite strange for it to be on a laptop but it is possible....although it would take the whole mobility out of the laptop. Whatever your preference is, it doesn't matter :)

IE has MANY security issues and flaws, not to mention how incredibly slow it is compared to other browsers. Along with the inability to customize it with themes, apps, etc.

I have a wireless belkin G which is connected to my pc, slingbox. I'm using wireless for my laptop, ps3 and LG bluray with a gaming adapter to it to watch youtube and netflix streaming. I just ordered this refurb for 30 bucks. Will this N Router make a big difference? Do I to buy a USB N router for bluray or PS3?

yes this should make a difference, because your other G router has a cap at around 54mbs but this goes to 300, not to mention it's nice having 4 extra ethernet slots

are you using old wires? Make sure the wires are in good condition. Double check that you have the wires plugged into the right spots remembers PC>connection 1 modem>internet.

yes I am...and my service is actually quite slow compared to other services...i DL around 300+ kb/s but the internet is down every now and then and it can be quite frustrating. How did you know this btw?
