Real economic growth (taking both inflation and nominal growth into account) under Reagan wasn't bad for a republican at 2.x% but it was still worse than almost any democrat. Clinton included. And it came at the price of an astronomical debt. There's nothing good about cutting taxes and borrowing to pay for your expenses (in his case military) you can do that in a recession but outside of that it is cheap, anti patriotic and plain simply wrong. Reagan sucked.

He was talking about Reagan. Though I'm sure population grew by far more than 17 million during his term but it's the fuzzy math republicans use to justify their choices. I believe even Carter created more employment than Reagan. What did happen though is that inflation went down. From 12% in the Ford-Carter era down to 4%? Something like that. Of course that had everything to do with the end of the oil crisis.
