The publishers are lying! They say it's made of brass - it's not. Hold a magnet hear the "brass" pieces - they are strongly attracted, showing they are ferrous, not brass. I was wondering why the instructions say they are coated with a "protective laquer" and that you shouldn't try to clean or polish them. Why? You'd damage the brass plating!
Actually, if you actually read the magazines, it says the gears are solid brass whilst the non-working parts are brass plated. If you hold a magnet next to the gears, it isn't attracted, ergo, the gears are indeed solid brass. They do actually say that the non-working parts are brass plated, so they are not lying.
I enjoyed your video, particularly the bit at the end. I'm building the same thing, but I started at around issue 25, so I had to order a load of back issues.
Basically these people are driving me crazy, It's been about 8 weeks and they still haven't arrived desipite multiple phone calls, pleadings and promises.
Consequently my Solar system only goes out to the Earth, and then misses everything up to Saturn. Grr!
I've got my 4 issues today aswell and I've added Uranus to my orrery :). By the way, I managed to grab the column before it hit the floor :P You can view pics of my orrery at bebo(dot)com/Kev8888
unless you have all the parts stored chronologically, i suggest working on it part-by-part as it can get confusing with all these bits and bobs of brass lying around.
If you want a real challenge, just empty all the parts into a box and give it a good shake.....
Seriously, it's worth reading the construction guides ahead of what you're assembling. I remember the Real Robots series often said words to the effect, disassemble what you carefully put together last week and insert this new circuit board....
so very very true. Interesting theory, i'm doing the same orrery and i am presentley living in Australia and here we got issue 1 on moday hey (today is Thursday time 11:15 PM) anyway i am going to try what you said but firs i might do it the chronologically way to get used to where the parts go so it makes it easier for me. lol ^_^ V t.c. everyone

I recommend building it. With all the pieces it would be way too confusing. Even building it as you go along is not that easy.
but its your choice!
