  • What a great way to play such a beatiful song... it sounds better than ever! It shows that Queen was the union and the chemistry of four amazing musicians, not only Freddie, like everybody says. Freddie was and will always be a legend, but Brian, Roger and John deserve to a legend as well.

  • Queen forever!

  • This song describes the consequences of traveling at light speed. The travelers leave their planet, at almost the speed of light, to look for another inhabitable planet. However, when the travelers return, they find the ancestors of those they left behind - but the travelers have hardly aged. This has to do with Einstein's time dialation/"twin paradox" theory. Brian May is a genius.

  • OHH MY GOOD!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS SONG!!! ITS MY FAVOURITE!!!!!! BRIAN IS AWESOME AND THE OTHER GUYS TOO!!!!!

  • OHH MY GOOD!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS SONG!!! ITS MY FAVOURITE!!!!!! BRIAN IS AWESOME AND THE OTHER GUYS TOO!!!!!

  • Who says Queen died when Freddie died!

  • I bet Freddie heard you guys.

  • why John wasn't there??? :(

  • @azisgagap1 john left the band when freddie died ;)

  • FIERCE!

  • Kharkiv is the best city in the world!!!

  • @TheSharpUa How did you come to that conclusion?

  • sorry brian may you were my hero from being 16 but i dont see your song 39 as a space song. to me its about the people who went out to fight in the war 1939 2nd world war

  • @marycockburn1 I think he knows what his song is about? Cosmic Travel... Everyone is still allowed to have their own interpretation of it, but no, it's not about the war - although there are connections. This world we live in is full of yet unexplained things. You don't have to accept Brian's offered explanation just because he is "your hero" anyway. Queen said that over and over, see past their image...

  • you think he knows what his song is about? did i say he didnt?

all i have said is that i feel its about the war obviously its brians lyrics so its his song of course

the lyrics to me fit more about the war. im intitled to think what i like on a song just like bm and rt

    have said in the past

  • @marycockburn1 That's correct, which is why you don't need open your comment with "you're my hero Brian BUT" because he never said people should not think of the song what they like. Objectively, the song is about A war but it may not be the 2nd world war because that's not when we discovered new lands. Brian said it's an old British folk song so it is about a legend. At first I also believed it was about 1939, then I noticed what DOESN'T fit. We can learn a lot from songs (collective memory).

  • @slendersail sounds like you have to much time on your hands to me

  • @slendersail Its actually a scifi song, so its about the future when earth is dying!

  • @marycockburn1 MANY PEOPLE OFTEN SAY THAT THIS SONG IS ABOUT WAR... I THINK THIS IS A SCI FI SONG, JUST BECAUSE OF THE TITLE MANY PEOPLE THINK ITS ABOUT WWII... BUT, ONLY BRIAN KNOWS THE TRUTH ANYWAY!!! :)

  • thumbs up for the girl at 1:48

  • queen=best band ever ;) and this is one of there best songs

  • i would have given my left testical to see them =(

  • @calmine111 what about the right?

  • @weirdguy59 uhhh half of it =p

  • whats this song about, the war?

  • @shakeshaftthomas

Nope, he says it's a space song at about :20 - it's actually about the effect of time dilation on a group of space explorers. You can check the wikipedia entry on the album it's from (A Night at the Opera) for a bit more detail.

  • @hijirikirishima bit sad the story though really dont you think lol

  • @marycockburn1

    Yeah.

  • Today the most popular so called "musicians" we've got Justine Fagber and the Jonas Fags playing 2 or 3 cords on a guitar and people acting like its as good as Hendrix. I want those people to just look at what Brian alone does here with a twelve string acoustic.

  • The legends never die! We love you Freddie!

  • Freddie had a great voice... no argument from me on that... but this IS Brian's song! And, this is so much fun... wish I'd been there...

  • Wonderful. I love the way they come out to the stage. :)

8 people should have been left back by the ship.

  • This song is so beautiful. Brian wrote some fantastic songs and has a gorgeous voice X.

  • 4:32 Roger Taylor drop a cymbal drum in the air lol

  • one of my all time fav's to play on a 12 string awsome song

  • John Decon volte.

  • @palmeirense1987 he left Queen in 1997.

  • My love this CAANNOOOT BEEEE! miss that special part by freddie on newcastle!

  • could be better if they had george michael as singer instead of paul rodgers

  • brian may can be the frontman :P

  • Looks like the whole city of Kiev is there.

  • They have no talent, that's why Queen is one of the most famous and best considered rock bands in the world through history of music, while Owl City is a second-raw band.

  • @1945musician Who? Who the fuck is Owl City? Could ask a lot of people that around the world and they would all have the same answer. I know you won't, but just listen to how Brian can play a 12 string acoustic guitar. However, I know the only answer you could give is "he sucks Nick and Kevin Faggot can play guitar way better". Just give it up you fucking troll.

  • @1945musician Fuck u IDIOT. U r fucken GAY, the same like BiEBEr with his fucken BABY. QUEEN THE BEST. And all of us know it so good, as we know that Freddy still with us.

  • @1945musician lmao dude you gotta be kidding, now u just shown us what kind of ears u have... asshole

  • @1945musician This is a joke, right? I'm confused...

  • It should be John Deacon on the upright electric bass.

  • Когда они выступали в Харькове, было ощущение, что ни Мэй и Тэйлор подпевают, а наоборот

  • Poul Rogers is like a shit

  • @widmo007 uh..no

  • @widmo007 You are aware this was written by freddie mercury and relaesed on a night at the opera? arent you? or are you just an idiot?

  • @gearguy31 know what's really funny is that this one was written by brian may, and that's him singing it in this video :) Rodgers isn't even singing in this one, and widmo007 is criticizing the original author and singer of the song... check out A Night at the Opera, it's right there.

  • @gearguy31 This was written by Brian May...

  • @widmo007 Lol! Queen had a go at most musical genre. Personally, I love this song and I love Brian singing it.

  • i want an unplugged tour

  • what year is this???

    such a great performance haha

  • 2008

  • sept 12th 2008

  • @ben5leto 12 september 2008

  • Guitarra deja a ese nene jaja, Awesomee

  • please, make live karaoke version of this performance)))))

  • Brian is amazing!

  • Muy bueno chee!!! Very good guys!!!

  • Brian sounds FABULOUS!

  • que lindo que cantas BRI te re amo!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh man, 39 gets better every time I hear it! I wish I was in that crowd, I really do! I'd be the loudest person, "DON'T YOU HEAR MY CALL!"

    LOL!

and it's nice to see Spike Edney up there getting his glory, that man is an UNSUNG HERO of Queen!

  • @Robin360 not anymore here he sings:D

  • watch the fantastic conzertfilm from the hannover concert in 2008 on my site. and enjoy the ROCK!!

  • i like the lady 0:24 a lot

  • почему меня там не было.. я бы даже приехал просто так..))

  • SIMPLEMENTE EXCELENTE

  • Wonder how many people realise that this song is about time travel and Einstein's law of relativity. The lyrics are simply astounding. Thank you, Dr. May!

  • He's an astrophysicist xD

  • May himself said it in Queen+Paul Rodgers "Return of the Champions".

  • I like Brian's '39 better than Freddies. I don't know why but Brian's voice is perfect for this song. And it's good to hear Brian singing this song after all these years.

  • Brian has always sung this song. I don't think I have ever heard Freddie sing it. Can you tell me when you have heard freddie sing this?

  • Sure. do a search on youtube for this:

'39 (Queen live @ Concert For Kampuchea 1979)

    :)

  • Brian sang the original Studio recording on A Night At The Opera. However freddie always used to sing this live one recording is on Live Killers

  • Freddie sang this whenever they toured as Queen... check out 39 from Live Killers, Houston, Earls Court etc here on YT

  • Freddie Always sing this song when live before he died. like at Earl's Court.

  • @kimferlee there a version on youtube of freddy singing it in houston in 77

  • @johnnyquid92 I don't like Freddie singing this song, it's like he's doing a duty.

  • It does fit Brian's voice better. Brian's voice is lighter and "gentler" than Freddies, which makes it perfect for this song.

  • Dr. May is STILL a Rock-god!!!!

  • And still going strong!

  • beautiful song!!

  • i miss freddy

  • I saw them in Philly. This is the most tremendous organization of a group with the mournful loss of its lead singer. Why? Because Paul Rodgers does not try to sound like Freddy. Rogers sings it his way and that is respect. Bad Company Meeting a Queen..The only thing left at that concert that day ...Was the smoke... Im an ember of that smoke now..That's what happens when your blown away.....Peace Mercury...and Thank You All.

  • Queen is my band but I love Danny!

  • this reminds me of the old good queen :) made my day.

  • Queen forever!! \o/

  • God. I wish I was there.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRI ! :)

  • Timeless music.

  • Uau! People, Freddie IS alive. He's there with his friends. We can feel his presence, thanks to Bri and Rog. They're keeping Freddie's memory alive and the Cosmos is rocking...

  • @MonicaPTravassos Of course he is, as are we all... "luminous beings we are, not this crude matter". :)

  • God Bless All Of You

  • Saw them live in October 2008, absolutely phenominal. A night I will NEVER forget. Totally Rocked

  • Me too. Cardiff. Not smiled so much since.

  • thats the best band in the world right there, what a great version of an amazing song, love the way he stops the song and gets spike and the rest up to play

  • Queen : the best band ever

  • They still SPLENDID!

    I love mister Spike Edney

  • i love the fact that they still play and how many hearts or those people have been filled with that dream of seeing Queen? i also love the way that music is international!

i only hope that Queen is preserved for all to hear

  • I had no idea Brian sang ... fantastic

  • Now was that very nice?

    ;o)

  • @mack89464 I have to disagree there. Freddie had an amazing voice, but I think I like Brian's just as much.

  • all of them sang at least three studio songs

  • Exept John Deacon : he never sang anything in studio, except (maybe) some choruses in Somebody To Love, but it's not sure.

  • wonderful! I still look back to the concert @ Ahoy Rotterdam with great pleasure! Well done guys hope to see you again soon, in the meantime I will purchase this DVD, can't wait to see it! Luv Angélique

  • Why did they delete the "Spike Edney" incident, I thought it was charming!

  • spike edney incident or the tambourine incident with roger taylor?

  • The tambourine incident is still in this registration. Thank God!

  • i dont see the crash jaja

  • fantastic!! so great to see them live again...can only hope they will tour again soon!

  • I soooo love that song when they all come together on stage!

  • So charming, really, it's so cute to see a bunch of old guys playing together xD HAHA I love it, and they all look so happy it just warms my heart <3

  • Queen + Paul rodgers have split!!!

  • absolutely GORGEOUS.

  • Anybody knows when they're hitting Holland again? It's been I while since i've seen Queen (2005 to be exact). Wasn't able to get my hands on some tickets last time they came by, but if they come again i'm sure to go get some tickets. So, anybody's got an idea when that might be?

@ video: Yep, it's official: The still rock the cosmos!

  • I'm afraid they won't hit any country again since they have parted from the great paul rodgers. :-( We can hope for some benefit gigs like the 46664 concerts though.

  • And the music beats on, dang them guys look GREAT! If this is country music, I'm hooked, line and sinker-ed.

  • Magnificent. Saw Ukraine gig at the cinema last december - now can't wait for June 15th to get my DVD copy :)

    Rock on Queen!

  • Buenisimoooooooooooooooo tuve la suerte de verlos en el estadio de zVelez Sarsfield en Argentina ante 55.000 espectadores...fue colosal esta parte...

  • Oh Jesus, Brian May. Trying to hype up an accordion... I love it so bloody much. Hahaha.

  • This was such i great part of the concert!! Saw them in Hamburg, and they just came out to the crowd!!! Just very plain and simple!! YOU ROCK GUYS!!

  • wow! i love it!

like they cam to front of stage :)

  • oh my god!!!!!!! it's wonderful!! i love this song, this is one of my favourite.. QUEEN RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Man I love this song so much, one of the first Queen songs other than "greatest hits" that i heard and since then ive been HOOKED on Queens music!

  • this is definitely one of my favorite Queen songs.

  • i love it

  • Brian's still got it! =D

  • Oh no! they cut out the bit right at the end where the tambourine comes back down and hits Roger on the head!! LOL!

Brilliant vid, glad they started doing the full band version again :D

  • BRAVO!!! Brayan!

  • It's Brian

  • what an amazing album is a night at the opera

  • It certainly is!!!

  • by the looks of things when Queen has fallen and their music has been completely forgotten the world will fall into nuclear fallout

    Queen holds the world together!

    Freddie would be proud!

  • ATTENTION YOUTUBE PEOPLE!!!!!!

    ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

A gnarly prank will be pulled on the retarded comedian that is "FRED". What is trying to be done is humilliate him. So here are your simple steps:

    1. Subscribe to fred

    2.Wait for June 1st

    3. UNSUBSCRIBE!

Watch what'll happen!. Hopefully it'l make the news. So try it, you aint got nothing to lose!.

Your mission objective: COPY & PASTE TO 10 DIFFERENT VIDEOS

  • they've edited the song a lot. the accordion sounds much higher now... its better, but it isnt real

  • If by edited you mean mixed it differently, yes. You'd be amazed how much the sound can change simply by mixing it differently.

Of course there are gonna be some overdubs as always with all music DVD releases, but I generally don't mind. If it sounds better, I'm all for it.

And it is good that they edited the pause of the song down a bit, makes it better for the audio tracks. Don't watch too much dead time.

  • Queen Forever!

  • one of my favorites songs! AMAZING!

  • This performance of '39 was spectacular but the accordian part made me laugh (in a good way) =D

  • it was perfect until 2:14

  • that day was AMAZING

  • Awesome

  • see how close Roger is sitting to his bass drum...there's a reason

  • what reason?

  • Yeah, what's the reason?

  • so that he can play it...what else?

  • There's a reason why he's sitting down...

  • Do tell.

  • please correct Paul's last name

    is Rodgers not Rogers

  • Love you, Brian

  • this song is the best brian wrote

  • I think Long Away is!

  • well everyone to his own opinion
