The students dressed in lilac @2:27 are Delphine Baey (left) and Aurélie Dupont (right).
- Baey is an ex-sujet of the POB. She left the company in 2001 and joined the Marseille Ballet as a soloist.
- Aurélie Dupont is currently Paris Opera Ballet's biggest étoile and is one of the all-time best French ballerinas. She is married to Jéremie Bélingard, also étoile, and they have two sons: Jacques and Georges :)
Broadwaynballet- I'm a Vaganova ballet master and I'dont think so, we "barking around" our students. Our teaching method is very disclipined and efficient.
Poppearlgirl- I don't know your height and weight. But If your legs and ankles are not enough strong and you have plus weight, it could causes you injuries and problems in the future. Think it over, do it slow and take care! :-)
I always put myself down because of my weight because many people say you cannot go on pointe if you are over a certain weight limit! I am in Grade 4 ballet now and I am trying to lose weight now. But I have learnt something! You can always do it if you believe in it. People always say that but it is true!
I´m glad to say that I was born with very high arches just like this girls. I think it´s my destiny to be a ballet dancer because why else should I have such feet? This thought gives me courage..
Everyone who wishes to dance like this... anyone who has the right body can do it,so work, work, work and maybe someday you'll be dancing along some of these girls in a major company! Don't look at yourself and say that compared to them you can't dance...instead,tell yourself I can do this!
The difference in between the Opera and the Vaganova academy, I think, is that the French ballet is much... faster. The center exercises for example, are much much faster, where as the russian exercises are more down to basics, simpler, more perfectionist-like :p
@jennyluvballet You can't "make" a high arch, you are born with them. However, if you have a lower arch, you can develop the muscles in your feet to achieve maximum point. If you're a sad soul like me (no pun intended) with absolutely no arches, it's very difficult, if not impossible to train your feet into the correct degree of point. Of course, in all honesty, there are people who should not dance ballet because their body simply wasn't made for it and injuries could occur.
@broadwaynballet I am sure there are tears, but yes ! The russian teachers are always barking around at their students! I watched this video once where the teacher was yelling at her student saying that only smart people could be true dancers and the she was an idiot and that she would never make it as a dancer... Sick
this is ridiculous, i'm 17 and the girls at 0:57 are doing a class way harder than the classe i have... and i'm the youngest in my class... it's price for living in a place where classic culture is almost nonexistent.
@yorouichi17 What do you expect? Opera de Paris is a luxury school. It's for those who are guaranteed a spot in the world of dance because it's what they are. After all, you wouldn't pay who knows how much each term and see your daughter only during Christmas for a recreational hobby. These girls are dead serious, dude.
This is by no means a luxury school ! School and dance tuition is free, if you wish you can board (for $1,000.00 a semester ! from Sunday night to Friday afternoon and go home on the week end. If you live close enough you go home every night. Yes it is an elite school, but it is free, just like any public school in France.
I actually don't speak french but i THINK she's saying somthing about if you don't pointe you foot the right way you're using the the wrong mucles, and your foot won't have a good line...

@HKGleclercq I have spoken French my entire life, and I have to agree with xSugarplum, coup-de-pied means neck of the foot (ankle) not high arch. She IS talking about pointing the foot properly.

the girl in the middle at the end is Ghislaine Fallou. She was 14 at the time but already a graduating student. She had to repeat the year, however, in order to join the corps the ballet because at 14 she was still too young. I think the other girls are a bit older than her, between 15 and 17.
She's an amazing teacher. My teacher when I was little was a male instructor he was awesome. But in my teens were all ladies. Both ladies in this video are amazing the brunette and the blonde. What a great instructor is the blonde one.
Like any other language French uses certain words in a form of "slang" to mean something else. "Aller" doesn't really mean "go" in this case, it's more like, "come on.." as in, "do it". If they wanted to say "GO!" as in "go for it", they would say "vas-y", which means "go there", but can be used in many ways, like "aller", and like many other words. ;) Literal translations of words rarely works when trying to understand people in a casual conversation setting.

wow the barre work was soo fast. great stuff. I love how when the dancer in white is demonstrating for the younger dancers, how the younger dancers are discussing the move the dancer in white performing. it looks like hard work but the dancers look amazing.
I swear I've seen this clip a hundred time...I LOVE this particular clip. Esp when they are doing tendu, it makes my eyes spin. The coup de le pied also very impressive.

wow the barre work was soo fast. great stuff. I love how when the dancer in white is demonstrating for the younger dancers, how the younger dancers are discussing the move the dancer in white performing. it looks like hard work but the dancers look amazing.

The dancer in white (I missed her name) had the most beautiful leaps I have ever seen.

I swear I've seen this clip a hundred time...I LOVE this particular clip. Esp when they are doing tendu, it makes my eyes spin. The coup de le pied also very impressive.

The little ones were sticking their butts out when they jumped. haha. I think the teacher told her to straighten her back though, so that's good.
