  • With a very good driver the Mclaren will beat the Ferrari every time

  • the 458 is way better than the mp4

    Ferrari all day

  • Crappy test, the mp4 should be quite a big quicker then the 458 actually, I've seen and read different tests where the mp4 is quicker. I blame that nerdy driver (whats up with his position in those cars anyways, that's the position of a 50-year old woman who's afraid to drive)

  • 2012 stock GTR shits on both on track.

  • MP4-12C for me! :)

  • 458 italiaaaa <3

  • Sorry, but no helmet on a race circuit is idiotic. Plus, this guy sits on top of the steering wheel like my 85 year old grandmother just asking for his head to be blown off by the airbag. That Darwin was a pretty smart guy.

  • Having seen two 458's and two MP4s on the road in the last few months, on looks alone I'd go for the 458; it had a 'wow' factor each time for me whereas each time I saw an MP4 I was only thinking 'Hmm, that's nice'. On performance and desirability... I'd go for the 458 again!

  • does this guy work as an auctioneer on his free time?

  • The McLaren is an uglier GTR...lol

  • 458 its just lovely!!!

  • Which car saves more gas? :p

  • @aerowindwalker The McLaren is more fuel efficient

  • id buy both mc-laren and 458 problem solved

  • @Dreadzedan

would by the mc-laren first no doubt though ><

  • my mom could drive better then you

  • how about the fuel efficiency battle? :D

  • I DESPISE Ferrari, but I would own a 458 any day of the week. But that red color was dreadful.

  • He wasn't nearly as aggressive on the throttle with the McLaren as he was with the Ferrari. Still a bit of time to be shaved off

  • I am British and i would have the MP4

  • @chimpcosmic I think you're right. It costs a bundle, but "McLaren" ? They are like machines from outer space...

  • @umaxen01 i think the mclaren would be better for everyday use, and the fact that its faster around the track when you need it to be, if i could afford one haha!

  • Nobody buys Corvettes? They probably sell 1000 to 1 over Ferrari's. Another thing. You can drive a Corvette for 100,000 miles without any service other than oil and belt changes. The V-8 engines have been around since the 1917...

  • @umaxen01 Absolute rubbish.

  • @StuRaz Oh, another thing. My Lexus ES330 has 110,000 miles on it right now, The only things I have EVER done is oil and oil filter changes every 7000 miles, 3 air filters, one change of belts and new brake pads all around at 100,000 miles. Everything else is 100% original The tires even lasted 80k miles. It's still drives like the day it was new. Everything is tight. At 90 mph, the car is only running 3k rpm. Try to get that type of service from a Ferrari..

  • @umaxen01 So you've never had to service the brake fluid, fuel filter, fuel heater, microfilter, spark plugs, ignition coils, injectors, gearbox oil, diff oil, air conditioning, suspension bushes, wheel bearings? You're talking garbage. No set of tyres last 80k miles, you'd be lucky to get that off the back tyres from a front wheel drive hatchback.

I co-own a F430 Spider, I know exactly what they're like. A Corvette will not be so simple like you so stupidly claim.

  • @StuRaz (Lexus ES330) Actually, no... Brake fluid inspected, never changed. Fuel filter once, no ignition problems, no injectors, no bearings (just checked and tightened), no bushings, a/c is 100% original and blows like ice. Radiator flush once. I bought new tires at 20K because the factory tires were loud. I changed them with a set of Nexen N5000 which actually lasted 81.400 miles. (80k tires) I sold all 4 of them with tread left for $100 US. This is why I will always buy Japanese.

  • @umaxen01 You can't inspect the brake fluid because all you will see is what's in the reservoir and not in the brake lines. Therefore it's always recommended to bleed the brakes every 18months or so. Tyre wear doesn't really have anything to do with where they're made either. As for the rest, if it's true, I'll grant that's impressive.

  • I wonder how much faster he could have driven both cars if he simply would have SHUT UP for a single lap ! eh? (Maybe a narrative after the laps?) I still hate those paddle shifters...

  • I m not British and i would by The 12C......

  • Completely idiotic driver combined with Ferrari's ringer 458 press car made this result. I'd choose the 12C simply because I like the way winning makes me feel. Anyone who owns a 458 and drives a 12C winds up loving the 12C. ...more than their 458. The 12C doesn't have Pavarotti's soul. ...No - it's got Bruce Lee's soul. Quiet and unassumaing and will totally f**k your s**t up when the green flag drops.

  • And lap times don't mean shit in cars like this. You won't notice 1 second per lap...you won't notice 0,2 sec faster 0-100 time or 2 mph higher/lower top speed. What you will notice is car balance, behavior of chassis on the limit, sound, feel, feedback....

  • @derbigpr500 They did a rolling start. .1 of a second means jack sh*t.

  • Evo, Fifth Gear, Top Gear - three most important British car magazines, and they all said F438 is better than MP4-12C.

  • check out my mclaren

  • the driver suckx

  • 0.0.0.10 gap is because of this guy stupid driving.... McLaren can easily with a yawn beat 458....

  • Mclaren is lighter, more powerful, air brake. How can lose? Stupid show

  • @evanpan23 its against a ferrari did u know?

  • @canabeenzo lol people should read what they write and pay attention to what the watch kids these days lol

  • @evanpan23 mclaren is just volgar, nothing else, ferrari is much better, did you ever see one of these?

  • A real race starts at a "stand still"

  • The McLaren is simply better.

  • the Guy isn't using the precog system.

  • This is all very well, and personally i would choose the ferrari but, this is not so much because of lap times, 0-60 but because of how the car makes you feel, basically the Ferrari has passion the Mclaren does not(quite so much anyway) plus both are brilliant anyway so at the end of the day, go with your heart :)

  • @CharlesM505 what is that mean, when people talk about Ferrari, they almost always speak of passion? How is it people can feel emotions for a particular inanimate object, and not another?

  • @CharlesM505 ur just saying that cause u just watched either top gear or fifth gear....

unless ofcourse u have driven both of these cars.

  • The Mclaren is the sensible choice, but then you'll have to explain to everyone why you didn't buy a ferrari -__- Just get a 570 superleggera and be done :D

  • turbocharged supercars are a waste of money! Naturally aspirated cars will always be on the top no matter how faster or slower others might be. And history shows that naturally aspirated cars are always faster on track no matter how much less horsepower they have!

  • I was being quite annoyed by his talking and his voice

  • If you are talking: then you are not concentrating 100%

  • bring out the stig

  • jewel clutch xD

  • @Zagato8D lol

  • Lamborghini Aventador <3

  • Im British and I would buy........ The 458. What a car. Sorry McLaren.

  • @blakeyuk1981 mclaren is not to totally british it never was it will never be . brits are far behind when it comes to cars especially engines just like americans. u make lousy engines sorry but thats the truth. germany #1 Itlay #2 Japan #3.

  • @hdidane00 I will have to disagree with you on that.

  • @hdidane00 The most succesful F1 engine, the Cosworth DFV, is British.

You say that McLaren isn't totally British, So does Ferrari ONLY use Italian nationals?

"Brits are far behind when it comes to making cars" you say. The performance car industry in UK is very strong. McLaren, Ariel, Caterham, Lotus, Aston Martin, Radical. Not to mention RR, Bentley in the luxury sector. Or development like Lola,Prodrive,Ricardo etc

You know nothing of cars, or the world. U should Kill yourself.

  • @IKNOWALLABOUTALL u just mad cuz ur a dumb brit with no brain a bad loser who can't confess to the fact that nobody in their right mind buys brtish junk including brits themselves and to prove my point to ur enraged dumb ass all you have to do is read the second best rated comment up down. DUMB ASS! :D

  • @blakeyuk1981 u are so hones and correct.. finally, someone who has some taste

  • In a supercar what I want are the driving emotions. I don't want an american drag race car who must be slow in corners to be fast in straight lines. The whole fun of these cars comes in the corners. The MP4 is a great piece of engineering, but it ain't a driving ecstasy since you cannot push it to the limit. That's why the 458 is considered one of the best cars ever, if not the best; because it gives you full control to enjoy extreme driving emotions. The 458 can be a great WRC, GT2 & GT1 car.

  • im not sure the rest but i think a supercar shld not just excel in performance but the appearance too. for that reason the ferrari will always trump the mclaren, just my opinion though

  • I don't know what it is about the McLaren that I don't like. I really really really want to like the car I just can't for some reason. I don't much care for the 458 either. But still.

  • Hey! Why do the wheels of the ferrari change colour depending on the camera angle?

  • the MP4 is great but I don't like it over the 458 it's just simply italian!!!!

  • The ferrari is soooo ... i think i just wet myself.

  • if ferrari would have made the mp4-12c..it would have been a rocket...i think even nissan did a better job on the gt-r than mclaren....they should build it and send it to nissan for software lol

  • omg that 458 looks even better than the last time i saw one. wow

  • it's ironic that the italian supercar is right hand drive but the BRITISH supercar is left hand drive.

  • hmmm the mclaren was faster on the top gear track and 10 sec faster on the nurburgring all that means is your track sucks

  • @water0x00 it was 10 second faster than the 458 at the nurburgring, tard...

  • @shobin05 im sure ferrari never tried to lap the 458 around the nurburgring as best as it could.

  • @cardude1992 i know, and they only did one lap and its already faster..imagine if the driver is familiar with the car and did a proper hot lap...i love the 458 but 10 second+ gap for less money is ridiculous!

  • He has the Best job in the world!!!!!

  • in such a short track loaded with corners i'm not surprised by how near the times are. And i'm sure they tried to beat Ferrari trying to do several laps and this is the best they could do with the McLaren, so this is the 3rd video so far that shows that Ferrari is not just better sounding-looking-driving but also faster. what can i say McLaren keep trying..

  • Being a RACE CAR DRIVER I explain these comparisons or track tests have ZERO value, because when we go in track we NEED TIGHT RACE BELTS, not those safety belts over a polo shirt, that's unbelievable to us!

  • Can the driver lap both cars consistently within 0.1sec each lap... I doubt it! So a rubbish conclusion really. Difference being entirely down to cars is complete fiction.

  • watch?v=VgtQ7R_r3hw Evo Mag also tested these cars around the track and ferrari won.....

  • This fool can't drive check out the mclaren mp4-12c round the nurburgring

3rd fastest road car ever 7mins28secs the ferrari 458 italia 7mins38secs not just

    top gear then.

  • Bullshit 0.1 my ass the mclarren should be 0.5 secs + faster..

Top gear even says so with the advice and understing of the stig a profesional racing driver...

  • @Dcavolli

its not the same track, also top gear are bias

  • @25alo2514m Top gears track is more intricate with more corners which tests a cars acceleration and handling a lot more.

When you have a track where everysingle corner can be done at 60/70 mph+

Because of the high maintained speed no acceleration or real handling is tested...

  • @Dcavolli A professional driver that could only find work on a tv show

  • @vix121 Yeah but think about it top gear is a world wide show with a tv audience of over 100/200 million people and multinational brand name

SO for them to get a stupidly pro driver is easy and can you imagine the competition for spaces for the driving seat?

  • this review is AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING

  • I love the mclaren but its just missing something that the ferrari, i find it has no soul or passion like the 458 does it was created with numbers in mind and not emotions

  • I'm curious to know how fast the GT-R is around this one...

  • Am I the only one here to like the Mclaren ??

  • I'd have the 458. It just seems more fun to drive and look at. It even has a better name. Don't get me wrong, I'd still take the MP4-12C, but if it was my money, it would have to be the Ferrari!

  • Sounds more like a horserace then it did as a car review

  • Going by the position of their steering wheels in the clip above, the Ferrari is the British car and the McLaren is the Italian car.

  • Comment removed

  • My ex girlfriend was British, and other than her wooden teeth, she was a fine chick

  • to be PCOTY 2011, i would of thought it would have to be a car beginning production in 2011... 458 Italia is from 2009. it does'nt make sense but all these reviewers are bias towards ferrari.

i have never watched a review where any ferrari has seen to have something lacking. but it makes sense because ferrari is known to produce "special" cars for reviewers with more power than what customers get.

  • It sometimes depend on the driver's performance; for example the Mclaren lapped faster around the TG track than the 458 did.

  • Meh Ferrari has more character. Also, being heavier and less powerful still beats the mclaren, which means it has better chassis overall and better drive.

  • I want Mat Watson!!

  • Mclaren was 5 seconds faster at Nordschliffe though!!

  • According to Auto Express' Performance Car of the Year test, the GT3 RS is faster than the 458 on this track at nearly half the price and with 100+hp less. That day the Ferrari clocked a slower lap time than it did on this one though. I would love to see the RS 4.0 go up against these two.

  • both amazing cars. however i think that the mclaren is slightly better looking than the 458.

  • Dont Know Which To Choose!

  • Top gears Lotus designed test track is a true test of a car, designed to highlight a cars weaknesses and ferrari lost. Still both great cars, but that deep red looks rubbish. Personally id have a green Lambo over them both :)

  • @TrippySkippy1 Top Gear's track laps are called "Power laps" for a reason. The cars with high HP have an advantage on the track. Mclaren's power to weight ratio is SLIGHTLY better than Ferrari which really doesnt justify a gap of 3 seconds.

Any knowledgeable motorhead would know that a difference of 3 seconds between 458 and MP4 is impossible.

  • @rforracing Its perfectly possible, the mclaren is a better handling lighter car, better suspension, more torque, more bhp, more of both throughout the rev range, better braking/ airbrake, electronics, tyres, etc etc. or maybe just maybe ferrari didnt have time to set the 458 up with special suspension, more power, stickier tyres, like they do at every other track they are famous for cheating on? Or maybe the stig is a better driver than other so called "motoring journalists".

  • @TrippySkippy1 Then how do you explain Ferrari being faster here? What happened to Mclaren's "better" suspension, more hp and better brakes here?

  • @rforracing Because ferrari had time to set the 458 up with special suspension, more power, stickier tyres, like they do at every other track they are famous for cheating on as usual and/or this driver sucks :) Once a 430 scuderia press car was put on a dyno to see how much ferrari were cheating, the tyres were so sticky the tread stuck to the roller and came of the wheel haha! Customer cars had nowhere near the power of the press cars. Maybe topgear didnt let them cheat.

  • Mclaren can catch the Ferrari at the finish line.

  • GTR 2012?

  • Jus for the record saying "your a Ferrari fanboy" isn't a putdown......I'm jus saying

  • Ferrari, for the same reason you would choose an Italian woman over a British woman every time.

  • @venom5809 a ferrari has better teeth ?

  • @venom5809 what a nob

  • @venom5809 hahahaha, you said it bro!

  • @venom5809 Now I can see why nobody buys Corvettes...

  • @CARSRULE94 That is apart from the fact that they are tacky, ridiculous, ugly, wide and made of plastic. Purely vulgar.

  • @CARSRULE94 you know im a huge fan of these cars and of course a z06 or even the zr1 have a presence like these but honest to god I love vettes with my soul and thats why they have been around for 60 years consistently, only the 911 and the mustang can claim loyalty like like that

  • @venom5809 Oi! That's all I have because sadly you're right.

  • How the fu.k was mclaren 3 seconds faster the 458 on TG test track?

Maybe the new stig is much better driver...

  • @BBBdbk cause it was developed specifically on that track, it's a power track, not very technical

  • @luimarco have you ever seen the TG test track? how stupid do you have to be to say its not technical...

  • @Gurksallad10 as stupid as Michael Schumacher when he said that in an interview when he spoke about his experience on that track.

  • @BBBdbk Top gear track is more open which would suit the faster McLaren.

  • @mattyoz0 just shut up ferrari fanboy

  • @Gurksallad10 wtf are you talking about? If i had this sort of money i'd buy a Porsche GT3 RS 4.0, better drivers car then both of these.

  • @BBBdbk Well if you're aware of that then you also should know (because it was said on the show) that the McLaren was developped there, tested on their track.

  • @Subsistancer True...but 3 sec is too much for such a short track. It s not like TG test track is especially difficult one like Nurburgring.

  • @BBBdbk

That is true. Alright. I still don't see that Mclaren's new time was all just because of the new Stig, since the previous Stig drove a lot on that track and knew it incredibly well.

My final theory is that the new Stig simply had a magical lap time "by accident" and the average of all lap times in the Mclaren was closer to Ferrari's. McLaren is a British car so... It might mean a lot to them to see it do well.

  • @BBBdbk it doesnt matter if you win by a millisecond or an hour, winning is winning. mclaren is better. enough said.

  • Comment removed

  • @BBBdbk You do realise the ferrari might be slightly more powerful than a customer car. also, these reviews are quite bias and favor ferrari. have you ever seen a video where they have said something negative about a ferrari?

    exactly.

  • @deshanridesscooters Maybe 458 is good then? Are you saying that the reviewers should start digging some faults from the car if there seems to be none? It looks like that on shorter and twitchier tracks the 458 is more nimble and a bit faster, but on "real" gp tracks mclaren wins because of brutal power and lightness.

  • @rextetron nope not saying that at all. i drove my formal dates dads one and it was amazing.

im just saying that reviewers never see negatives of ferrari's. every other car, there always is. and seeing there is evidence ferrari pays them off and shit, it clearly means there on the payroll.

  • @deshanridesscooters If you're saying Ferrari pays these reviewers then I can say the same thing about Mclaren. Mclaren might have paid TG to allow their own test driver lap the Mp4 instead of Stig.

Do you know how much of a difference 3 seconds is? About 25-30 average car lengths. 458 being that slow is nonsense and retarded.

  • @rforracing yep that's wright. Tg isn't the most objective show, the britsh cars are always the best even if they are slower, more expensive and fall apart after 10 yards. The best way to know there true feelings about the cars is to look at there own cars. Jeremy is the only one with a britsh car ( v8 vantage) and it's for his wife!

  • @deshanridesscooters Also Mclaren might be more powerful than a custom car.But probably both are stock.Secondly they dont say anything negative about ferrari because it is a good car! Also I m not ferrari man and I m not defending ferrari, I was commenting on new stig s driving....also there are other videos were ferrari was faster around the track, just serch it.Now is that because Mclaren was tested on TG track and it s really good on it or new stig sucks at driving.

  • ferrari ftw

  • Why is this guy seating so close the steering Wheel ????

  • @luimarco its the best way for racing

  • The clicking of the McLaren's gear changes is annoying

  • @ScoobyDoo69er That's like saying the clanking of the metal surrounds of the oldschool lambos is annoying.

  • @ScoobyDoo69er they sound like a PC mouse :D
