  • Was that pedal to the floor?

  • that sounds like my dump truck be sounding gooood

  • "wheelspin" LOL

  • I do love the sound of them 6.2 diesels.

  • excellent oil pressure

  • 24 sec 0-60 lol

  • that thing sounds like its reving higher than most 305s i've seen

  • @falaqdad15

The old diesels did. I doubt it hit 4000, though.

  • the ole girl runs but thats about all she does i wouldnt attempt to tow anything with it . it be my daily driver tho.

  • not a race truck, but definitely a fuel economy getter.

  • I'm thinking about buying one of these and everyone says that the fuel millage is great, but they never say a number. How many mpg's do these things get?

  • @chkmag3610 20-25

  • does anyone know why the odometers back then never went over 100k miles?

  • @chinchillawrangler insurance

  • honestly my goal in life is to own a collection of ever generation and motor in a diesel truck from a 6.2 to a 6.6 duramax from a 6.9 idi to a 6.7 powerstroke toa 1st gen cummins to a new 6.7.

i think it be pretty neat to own all these and drive them around and show these new kids what real engines were back in the day

  • time to upgrade to a Dmax

  • @bjsniffitproductions yeah it'd be nice, but I cant afford to

  • @73GMC1500 that makes 2 of us haha

  • @bjsniffitproductions Rather have a Cummins.

  • @Flyboy207 i wouldnt mind one of those either. anything but stroker is good with me

  • 6.2's might not be the quickest or the most powerful diesel, but there's nothing on earth that can match that exhaust note.

  • these were bad diesels they only have 130 hp and about 240 ftlbs of torque. chevy made a great improvemnt though. my gas 99 suburban 2500 with a vortec 454 has 230 hp and 410 ftlbs stock

  • @Joeyad4 yeah but your 454 gets like 10 mpg and this old 6.2 gets more than 20 mpg

  • @Joeyad4 yeah but your 454 gets like 10 mpg and this old 6.2 gets more than 20 mpg, and if you compare year to year diesel has almost always been a better truck motor, last longer, stronger and better mpg.

  • @Joeyad4 sry dont agree with you that a 6.2 is a bad motor and that is has only 130 hp some of them has 155-160 hp but they're slow

  • @v8power200

I think you're going a bit too far by calling a 6.2 "bad motor" After all horsepower doesn't move a car, torque does, and those 6.2's had a pretty descent torque output, 330 lb·ft and that's 50 lb-ft more than those 5.7 L81 gas engines. Sure it might take 20 seconds to hit 60 and it might be mule-ish but who cares? If you want something fast get sports and or muscle car. Seriously though, 20+ mpg and greater torque and durability than a 350 what's there to complain about?

  • @FANADICALCOWHEAD sorry about my bad english, I meant that a 6.2 is "not" a bad motor, and they have good enough hp and tq, i have a suburban 6.2 and im pritty happy about it, i pulled up a 80 feet long steel pipe up from the sea with it, i used it at work, no one belived me, until i did it. I'll say 6.2's are greate engines

  • 40s 0-60 wow

  • I have a 90 GMC 3/4ton burb with a 6.2, matched to a 400 auto, and banks aftermarket turbo, and this is def the way to go with them

  • hey nice looking truck....im parting one out a 6.2 diesel dually now so

if you need cheap parts check me out at...

    .....iPartCars(DOT)com

  • 6.5 wayyyy better

  • @codyhamm1984 I Disagree!

  • @codyhamm1984 I disagree as well...

  • hah my truck hmm 0 to 60 in i think 20 or 25 seconds lol

  • Is your speedometer recalibrated? The original size tire is 235-75-R15, so that is a 29" Tire. If you are running 33" tires now, your indicated 60 MPH is actually about 69 MPH. You are actually going 60 at an indicated 52 MPH. Still no rocket, but it means 0-60 is more like 15 seconds.

  • By the way, that would most likely improve with better gears than 3.08

  • @dborrelli74 on a 3/4ton, 15's, cmon I believe Gm used 235-85-16 or something similar

  • @87bigdaddy A K10 is a half ton, that's why it would be 235-75-R15. If it were a K20, then yes, 235-85R16 or sometimes 215-85R16 would be used.

  • @dborrelli74 Oops, I was mistaken, didnt go back to the header for the vid, my bad. you are right on the 15's

  • @87bigdaddy No biggie. You had me doing a double take!

  • nothin against GM or 6.2 diesels. But this is the reason why Diesel-powered vehicled never kicked off well

  • Agreed. And the ordeal with the 5.7L diesels didn't help out the 6.2 one bit. Of course, 6.2s eventually earned a reputation for excellent fuel mileage. I bet almost half of 80s GM pickups on the road today are 6.2s- I do still see a good number of them.

  • 20 seconds!

    still a cool car/truck whatever.

whats the 0-60 when 2nd works?

I can get to 60 in 11 seconds in my 1.8 diesel that has only 60bhp, ur truck must weigh a lot?

  • @73GMC1500 That's why you don't build diesels without turbo-chargers. The Audi V12 diesel has won the Le Mans quite a few times.

  • @73GMC1500 lol so true or their on their 3rd or 4th 350

  • in the uk we get fast diesels, my dad has an audi 2.0tdi with 140bhp standard, he tried for the 170bhp version but they r harder to get, with a chip we can get over 200bhp and still cruise at over 50mpg.

I wouldnt buy a petrol car again.

  • I was talking about Diesels in the US. I drive a LB7 Duramax. I ve done a couple of things to it, and have a crap load of power and I get almost 20mpg in a 3/4 ton Truck! But alot of ppl get better than that! Our Government still hates diesels, they dont support them at all. Thats why EGR,DPF,and coming soon Diesel Inspections are around.

  • we get yearly smoke tests and newer cars have dpf and egr, im lucky enough to have one of the more recent fords build just before all that crap.

the dpf things r horrible, if u only do short journeys they cant regenerate by getting up to heat so they stop catalysing and cause engine to get really hot, had that problem with fathers audi.

  • If I heard right diesels will get Smog Checked starting in 2010 here in California, but I'm not sure about what years will be smogged. I'm assuming only 2000 to present or something like that. That's pretty cool that you get 20mpg in a 3/4 ton truck.

  • The new diesels are so strangled with emissions crap, they don't get the mpg of older trucks.

The new Ford 6.4s are getting what, maybe 10MPG?

Sure you aren't polluting as much out the tailpipe, but all the extra fuel burned offsets any benefit of "clean burning", in my opinion.

  • @73GMC1500 do u know if u can swap the diesel out for a 350 without getting it smogged in california , i also have a 82 diesel k5

  • @73GMC1500

mine was getting 18 stock and 25 with mods

  • Those 6.2s are slow.

  • Tell me something I don't know. they get awesome fuel mileage though. And it is NA 6.2 is setup right it will pull as well as a 350.

  • @73GMC1500 most defenitely with BETTER fuel mpg, hehe

  • @73GMC1500 bs

  • @Thinker669 they may be slow but they normally get between 20-25mpg's, and when in 4 low, they will pull the state of wisconsin to califonia and back

  • yea you were deffinantly getting wheel spin

  • what ratio is the rear end in that thing? we got a th350 in our truck too but it has 4.10 rear end so the end of 2nd is like 50mph

  • 3.08, my first went to 45-50

  • the fuel gauge prolly went down faster than the speedo went up lol

  • for some reason only when im wide open my spedo is impossible to read or when i down shift and mine is a standard tranny 117mm

  • sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow

    ha chevy what a joke.

  • Own 1985 chevy pickup

    1985 suburban

    1982 gmc half ton

all powered by 6.2 love them all sweet mileage all with 700r4 but verry slow but shurly get you there

  • I don't care what anyone says, or how slow it is, but that engine sounds sweet!

  • It could use a torque converter lock up type tranny i guess. 3 gears with no tc lockup seems a little much for that power i dunno, because sometimes it would probably downshift at times because you always have your foot into it. Or just get a 5 speed haha

  • she might not be to good for racing, but that ol' motor there will pull your house off its foundation!!

  • Comment removed

  • must be a shitty house!

  • aahahaha get a life

  • @strumem90 I just got done reading how this engine sucks for towing....

  • @johntrebec Ford forum?

  • A for Effort.

  • D for diesel

  • Not like a gas engine would be to much faster. But eaither way even though im a Ford guy I like these old Chevy's alright.

  • idk about good engines.....lol decent for there day tho

  • LOL slow 6.2 were good engines but slow as shit

  • Diesel is far better than gas, THEY LAST LONGER, THEY CAN PULL HEAVIER LOAD, AND FAR MORE BETTER FUEL ECONOMY THAT GASSER. REAL ENGINE DONT HAVE SPARK PLUGS!!!

  • im thinking should i keep my 350 small block 1979 GMC 4WD or keep my 6.2l 1981 GMC 4WD

  • 6.2

  • hey thx for responding idk that 350 is got power. whats your mpg on that 6.2

  • It was about 16-18 and thats with no overdrive. Of course- the injection pump was on its way out. My suburban will get 20-25 highway.

  • id say keep em both both great trucks

  • OMFG that is the slowest 0-60 time ever

  • may be slow but will never get stuck in the mud

  • how quick do the reg 350 go from 0-60

  • why people talking shit about the 6.2 yeah there pretty slow but there bad ass i love mine! gotta think 130 hp and like what 210 tq come on people its not no 6.6 but god i love em!

  • Dude...you're from Estonia. When's the last time you made anything that mattered?

  • let me guess your a fag ass honda lover?

My 6.2 eats imports for breakfast BITCH!

  • ...when some germans make an engine they take that same power out of a 1.8, and even all faggy hondas 4cyl goes from 0-60 faster than some old diesel. that engine is not made for speed it´s probably made for durability or somthin.. .

  • duh.... your point is?

  • I asumed you had an naturally-aspirated old diesel engine.. and the point was that even a imported faggy honda would beat that, but then looking at your pics I realised I was wrong.. sorry man. .yeh it would eat them for brekfast. .

  • well i do have an old 6.2 diesel as my work/ fun truck but I have my Mustang for playing and yeah it does kill ricers! especially with the mods,

    its all good bro!

  • hell yea put some damn honda infront of that mean ass grille and floor it there will be nothin left of that slant eyed piece of shit i love gettin on teh highway and passing some little car and flooring it and smokin em out gotta love your 6.2!!

  • Oh yeah!

  • damn straight! haha

  • and it only took 22 seconds! haha mine is slow too

  • The older diesels are slow but at least they sound better then the new ones =)

  • dam that thing can rev

  • looks as though ur speedometer cable is bent

  • 0 -60 yes.

  • My nose is bleedin!!! Ug

  • Not too bad--45 in first gear! Not real quick, but plenty of torque. Still, I passed my mom in her minivan one day. At the time, the "Illinois Rattler" lived at my parents house, and my mom just tolerated it, so that made her mad. Oh well.

  • Ha. I'm going to do another 0-60 after I unhook the kickdown cable. After it shifts out of first I can only give it about 1/2 throttle or it goes back to first. (I thought it was gonna blow up going up an exit ramp today.) The rest of the time it shifts too early, but I can manually upshift and it works fine.

  • haha thought it was gonna blow up, I know the feeling.

  • I really need to get a tach...

  • ditto haha.

  • The diesel oil gages actually go to 80. No its not working. Some days it will, however.

It's not my only diesel truck, I also have an '81 C15 with 5.7 diesel (not running yet). We also have 3 diesel cars coming (VERY rare) It's not too cold to have diesel (doesn't get much below 0F) they just aren't that common

  • Heh. My oil gauge did the same thing until it stuck at zero. It also acted crazy periodically--if you saw the oil gauge in the Lumina video, that was precisely what it did for the longest time.

What kind of diesel cars do you have coming?

  • '81 Buck electra- complete

    '81 Buick Lesabre- pulling engine/trans

    2 Olds 98's - parting out

    All are 5.7 diesel.

  • Neat! What I'm really looking for, though (and get ready, because you may very well laugh) is a Diesel Chevette.

I sure wouldn't turn down a good running 350 diesel in something like an Olds wagon, though. Now if one would just come my way!

  • A diesel chevette would be neat. I believe they used both the Isuzu 1.8 and 2.2. I'd also like to find an s10 with the 2.2 diesel, but they are VERY hard to come by.

  • wow your oil pis is past 60 or is it not working and to why is that your only diesel truck is it to cold to have one there
