If you want customized ringtones without jail breaking, you can take a .mp3 file and create an AAC (.m4a) version of it, simply by right clicking the file in iTunes and click "Create AAC version" - After you've done that, you would fine the file in the iTunes library, called SONGNAME.m4a, then you change the extension of the file, simply by renaming it to SONGNAME.m4r. When you have done all that, you delete the songs from the iTunes playlist, and then drag the new m4r file into iTunes.

please tell me how to do the same thing with the ringtone. i have the Cydia app but don't really know how to use it. Pease upload such a video ar give me a reply that can help me. In my settings menu at sounds, ringtones i only have the iphone's ringtones. there are plenty of videos that show haw to upload a rintone to your iphone and i did and if i enter itunes and connect my iphone there is a playlist and it shows that i have the ringtone in my phone but i just can't find it or use it

is there not a way to make custom sms ringtones without jailbreaking it? i just got an iphone 3gs and i got iringer which makes ringtones AND sms tones but it cant upload the sms tones to my iphone or itunes unless i know the directory but i found out what the directory it goes in is but i cant find that directory in my phone.
